how far does the average subway car travel in an average day?

i only take the c if it comes before an a, but yeah those old cars like to throw everyone suddenly when starting.

idk the answer to that or if there really is one, but I'll look it up

cosign. I'm also kind of annoyed with people who bring strollers at rush hour, even as a parent. Use a carrier or go at a different time. Or just fold the damn stroller and hold the kid's hand if he's old enough to walk. Particularly when I see two parents doing this together.

man I would be terrified of bringing a baby into the subway - would at least give them earplugs

yeah bikes @ rush hour are 'not recommended' but I would be cool w/ a ban

Idk as a philly cyclist is it kind of frustrating to not be able to bring my bike on city trains btwn 3-6pm or suburban light rail systems btwn 4-6 regardless of how not-crowded the cars are.

I mean I almost never need to but sometimes I am visiting family or trying to get home in a p dangerous storm

well it might be frustrating but it's also frustrating to the 5 people who can't get onto a train because a bike is there

not-crowded commuter rail is another story

i'm okay with it as long as the cyclist holds the bike over his (it's always a dude) head to save space

how common are the buses with bike racks on the front? i know they have them in dc and seattle

keep in mind that philly's subway is much much smaller (2 lines) so it's more understandable to want to bring a bike w/ you on the train

otoh you can get a folding bike like this ^_^ wouldn't be any more objectionable than traveling on the subway with luggage

Generally, ppl who bring a bike onto the A train at 9am are not worried about anyone else. This bespectacled young dbag didn't give a shit.

it's the same thing in that wheelchairs throw off bus schedules, it's not the same thing in that people don't choose to be in wheelchairs

but basically you have to think of the system as a whole, in lots of other places w/ shitty transit options, having bike racks on buses is prob worth the cost to system-wide efficiency cause it makes it easier to live w/o a car and public transit doesn't have the same kinda scope. in a place w/ a very extensive public transit system that millions of people rely on, w/ crowded trains and buses and tight schedules, anything that takes up space or slows things down has an effect on a lot of people

7 train delays again today. i swear the 7 train has had problems during evening rush hour quite a lot recently. hopefully it will resolve itself by 5...

7 train service "suspended"--might be a good day to call in sick if you're not already out and about. As for myself, I'm on a bus floating eastward on Roosevelt.

wow, I finally took the E to queens late nite the other night -- it's like bizarro E train! There are like 20 stops between my work and home instead of three!
