"Crisis Counselor" is a mix between a fictionalized Jerry Springer-esque talk show scenario and televised intervention. In this clip from an episode entitled, "Bisexual Husband," which originally aired in 1982, Cranston plays a bisexual man named Sam who goes to a "family crisis counselor" to try to save his marriage after admitting to having an affair with a male lover.

it seems to me that a big thing for walt now is for people to believe in him, to take his word as gospel, to have faith in him. with saul, with mike, with sky - with each of them - he has had moments where he is essentially saying "how do you know this will work? because i say so" with the implied but unsaid "now shut the fuck up because your doubts are undermining my fragile ego"

if we're going to get into predictions i wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of confrontation with one or all of these people that hinges on walt's word not being good enough, or, more typically, walt's suspicion that one of them thinks his word is not good enough

I think the 'because I say so' attitude quite interesting- as a scientist and someone who cares/cared about analysing in detail the best methods for everything he does, it's unlikely that previously he'd ever have settled for 'because I say so' as a reason for doing anything. It shows how much he prizes power vs careful logic now, I guess. Also maybe he's fed up of trying to explain things to idiots cf that time he and Jesse were stuck in the desert in the crystal ship

It's pretty clear that he massively underestimates Mike.

Yeah, that's the fun of this split season so far. Mike's long game is being held pretty close to the vest, but thus far Walt does not seem to view him as a threat. Or maybe he does! It would not surprise me if Walt eventually engineers Mike's, er, ouster.

He massively understimates Mike and Hank and Sauk's secretary, and very largely underestimates Skyler and underestimates Jesse nearly, but not quite, as much as Jesse does.

Walt totally views Mike as a threat, the last scene of ep 3 was all about setting Jesse up to take him down

it might not be totally conscious, but a huge part of him rankling at Mike's business handling and Icaristic hubris, as he sells it to Jesse, is awareness of Mike being right and knowing about stuff that Walt doesn't, which in itself he takes as threatening

i don't exactly see the point of walt and you'd think mike is coming around to thinking something similar. jesse can cook, mike actually knows the business end, walt just tries to pretend he has power.

true, but Jesse wouldn't let Mike squeeze out Walt because, as pointed out above, he doesn't have enough faith in himself.

I think Skyler is sharp enough to figure out how not to go to jail over this.

I didn't see Scarface until about five years ago. I had planned for this Cuban Goodfellas thing mixed with Miami Vice and was kind of surprised how much it shared in common with lame Saturday night HBO movies from 1986. But it's so bad, it's good, and I don't like using that compliment very often. The walking-through-the-camera effect in that montage kills me every time.

It's funny that it's Walt that is turning into the greedy megalomaniac, considering how Walt & Jesse were at the beginning.

Now Jesse wants everything Walt has, the money has brought him so much sadness...and Walt is at the point where he loves his family as long as they serve his plans. Like if Walt Jr found out & confronted Walt,
you now start to wonder would Walt harm his own son? If Skylar bolted, would Walt hunt her down or worse?

Man, this just isn't fun anymore. Which is not to in any way say it isn't good (I feel like a broken record at this point, but each new episode just strengthens my belief that I'm watching the best dramatic series of all time), just that the rollercoaster ride has been supplanted by the Tunnel of Dread. Every scene with Walt and Skyler alone in their bedroom is like a horror movie to me now.

if i had to deal with two or three seasons of this i would get burnt out. as endgame it's pretty thrilling.
