Shall we anticipate the FIFTH SEASON of the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

walt likes to do his dirty work himself ime

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, don't thing he'd entrust something like that to anyone.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 18:28 (thirteen years ago)

weren't his movements severely constrained at several points? he might not have had a choice?

sarahell, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

iirc walt had all day to run around while jesse was doing the cook, he kicked in saul's glas door and bribed the secretary with $$ he had to get from his house where gus' hitmen were hanging out

after jesse got off work he had 5 increasingly frantic messages from saul to come see him (so saul could get the ricin cigarette ASAP)

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 18:37 (thirteen years ago)

still hoping for a badger spinoff

I dont even know that I think this sucks per se (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

I dunno, unless someone can scrape together a satisfying two-beat explanation of how Walt managed to poison a stranger's kid on the sly (what, did he steal an ice cream truck and cram the juniper berries in Brock's Choco Taco?), it's a pretty glaring plot point and it bothers me. I'd probably let it slide on a lesser show but the lack of explanation feels uncharacteristically sloppy here. I'm not asking for an episode devoted to it, but a brief flashback to the act would be nice.

Old Lunch, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)

it doesnt bother me really. the berries on the plant are supposed to be enticing for kids to eat, brock's kinda chunky, they probably just put a potted plant where he could see it and he started snackin.

Hungry4Ass, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

I think it's only sloppy if they never explain it.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like they already explained it, even if it seems implausible. Having a scene where they show exactly how it went down is unlikely to move the current narrative forward. It would just be fan service at this point.

it happened man. let's all just deal

"I feel like they already explained it, even if it seems implausible."

I don't think they explained exactly how Brock was poisoned.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

he ordered the berries as a topping on a pizza from a place that doesn't slice their slices

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

then he threw the pizza into the distance, the berries flew off the pizza and into that kids mouth somehow I dont really know how they got from the pizza to the kid I hope they explain it

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)

The smoke monster did it.

now that walt's transformation into evil incarnate is complete, he's the least interesting character

also seems like cranston is on auto-pilot, letting the scripts do all the work

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

ya he's terrible in this show

joaquin haus-partizan (s1ocki), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

turn the berries into a serum, inject it into a caprisun, bingobango you got yourself a sick Brock

What is that? Is it pretending to be real?

It's from a documentary about Coffeemate.

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

I can't quite figure it out, but it looks like a forgotten TV series from the early '80s? Don't get if it's supposed to seem real or not.

"Crisis Counselor" is a mix between a fictionalized Jerry Springer-esque talk show scenario and televised intervention. In this clip from an episode entitled, "Bisexual Husband," which originally aired in 1982, Cranston plays a bisexual man named Sam who goes to a "family crisis counselor" to try to save his marriage after admitting to having an affair with a male lover.

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 31 July 2012 23:29 (thirteen years ago)

it seems to me that a big thing for walt now is for people to believe in him, to take his word as gospel, to have faith in him. with saul, with mike, with sky - with each of them - he has had moments where he is essentially saying "how do you know this will work? because i say so" with the implied but unsaid "now shut the fuck up because your doubts are undermining my fragile ego"

if we're going to get into predictions i wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of confrontation with one or all of these people that hinges on walt's word not being good enough, or, more typically, walt's suspicion that one of them thinks his word is not good enough

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 2 August 2012 11:42 (thirteen years ago)

"Crisis Counselor" and "Bisexual Husband" both sound like the name of Prince b-sides.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 2 August 2012 12:00 (thirteen years ago)

I think the 'because I say so' attitude quite interesting- as a scientist and someone who cares/cared about analysing in detail the best methods for everything he does, it's unlikely that previously he'd ever have settled for 'because I say so' as a reason for doing anything. It shows how much he prizes power vs careful logic now, I guess. Also maybe he's fed up of trying to explain things to idiots cf that time he and Jesse were stuck in the desert in the crystal ship

kinder, Thursday, 2 August 2012 12:32 (thirteen years ago)

no, i thought the same thing - walt usually LOVES explaining in detail exactly why he's right

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 2 August 2012 12:34 (thirteen years ago)

It's pretty clear that he massively underestimates Mike.

Matt DC, Thursday, 2 August 2012 13:13 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, that's the fun of this split season so far. Mike's long game is being held pretty close to the vest, but thus far Walt does not seem to view him as a threat. Or maybe he does! It would not surprise me if Walt eventually engineers Mike's, er, ouster.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 2 August 2012 13:27 (thirteen years ago)

He massively understimates Mike and Hank and Sauk's secretary, and very largely underestimates Skyler and underestimates Jesse nearly, but not quite, as much as Jesse does.

¥╡*ٍ*╞¥ (sic), Thursday, 2 August 2012 13:30 (thirteen years ago)

Walt totally views Mike as a threat, the last scene of ep 3 was all about setting Jesse up to take him down

it might not be totally conscious, but a huge part of him rankling at Mike's business handling and Icaristic hubris, as he sells it to Jesse, is awareness of Mike being right and knowing about stuff that Walt doesn't, which in itself he takes as threatening

¥╡*ٍ*╞¥ (sic), Thursday, 2 August 2012 13:32 (thirteen years ago)

ya walt is obvs totally shook by mike and attempts to cover it up w/bluster

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 August 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)

i don't exactly see the point of walt and you'd think mike is coming around to thinking something similar. jesse can cook, mike actually knows the business end, walt just tries to pretend he has power.

"deep beyond Wang" (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:37 (thirteen years ago)

true, but Jesse wouldn't let Mike squeeze out Walt because, as pointed out above, he doesn't have enough faith in himself.

I think Skyler is sharp enough to figure out how not to go to jail over this.

although the cut to the money-counting machine sounding like gunfire was a little more clever

I thought it was an homage to Scarface!

And that Rage game was a direct commercial tie-in. That and the Dodge Charger are both items Gilligan has copped to promoting for $$.

Man that is the dumbest greatest sequence of all motion cinema.

pplains, Friday, 3 August 2012 15:42 (thirteen years ago)

pontiac aztek tie-in was a huge misstep imo

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Friday, 3 August 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I saw the money counter thing as a blatant homage

Nhex, Friday, 3 August 2012 16:04 (thirteen years ago)

scarface is a really lame movie
/challops

I dont even know that I think this sucks per se (forksclovetofu), Friday, 3 August 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)

I didn't see Scarface until about five years ago. I had planned for this Cuban Goodfellas thing mixed with Miami Vice and was kind of surprised how much it shared in common with lame Saturday night HBO movies from 1986. But it's so bad, it's good, and I don't like using that compliment very often. The walking-through-the-camera effect in that montage kills me every time.

Who do I feel the most sorry for? Guy who dies in a clown suit, that's who.

pplains, Friday, 3 August 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

scarface is the tits, f u fools
