i thought walt could've been talking about himself! i mean i dont think he actually was, but it def feels like foreshadowing of walter overreaching and going down for it. in the season opener we find him in a desperate place, my assumption has been that hes gonna get there by way of a series of events like homer simpson tumbling down the ravine

you know, i was a little ticked when i found out about the split season, but now that we've started into s5 im actually glad they're doing it this way. i think that extra time's really gonna help them stick the landing (ie. we get a better payoff than the plane crash)

TVLine is reporting that Jesse Plemons has signed on for a major recurring role on the forthcoming season of "Breaking Bad." Plemons will portray Todd, a young man who is described as " dependable" and "innocuous;" but the report also warns that Todd may not be what he appears to be.

it would be pretty surprising to me if the guys in programming told people higher up at the network to get in touch with the producers of Breaking Bad and have 'em tell their writers to work in stuff about what they're going to be showing during week 4, but hey it's not like I know anybody who works in the biz or anything, you're probably right, all this stuff gets planned in the exact same room and the conduits you're imagining wouldn't actually be so labyrinthine that navigating them in the clean easy way you imagine would be 100% impossible to do

the crazy leap is how you imagine this taking place - the producers of (I think) the most successful show on the network, one of the most buzz-heavy shows around, aren't probably beholden to the network about whether to put a tie-in for a thematic week of programming into an episode. even if they were, you get that how this would take place involves people's agents & managers & business managers & things they'd need (=$$$) to make this happen: not just one (the "executive producer") but directors & writers. Many of whom have creative control clauses written into their contracts as soon as they get any juice at all. And probably, unless they signed on for the entire show's run at the outset of it, the major stars: a what-I'm-shilling-for clause in a contract is p. standard afaik. Every screenwriter I know would be very insulted to be told "you have to put something in about Scarface, have them watching Scarface, the network said they're showing it that week and they want some help."

it could be, I guess - it's not unimaginable - I just get a big wasp in my nose about how people think the entertainment biz is this super-easy-to-read thing where a guy at a desk with a cigar and a wad of money in his fist calls up a screenwriter, shouts some directions into a phone & slams the phone down, and then the director adjusts his tie and sweats three fat drops of fear-sweat and barks at a nearby kid in a fedora: "Jimmy! Quick! Write in something about Scarface with this week's script or it's curtains for the show and we're all eatin' cheese sandwiches!"
