wow that's great. shame about the shitty youtube quality though as the drawing looks top-notch.
if you're seriously lazy skip to 5:50 in the gilliam for the crucial section.
― ledge, Friday, 27 July 2012 08:11 (thirteen years ago)
Ha, I'm sure I'd already seen that Gilliam somewhere back in the mists of time. Pretty great.

Thank you ILX for sharing these last two films, which I quite very very much enjoyed.

Netflix version is unwatchable, unfortunately.

'kells' is very pretty and kind of breathtaking in spots but the story's kinda not that great IMO.
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 1 August 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)
The story was fine but the visual style was what really stood out.

Fine animation but I don't get why it started Disney's comeback.
― abanana, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 22:23 (thirteen years ago)
It was well enough recieved, which was a pleasant change, but Disney is Back! didn't really start until Beauty and the Beast.

Kells was visually lovely and certainly respectable but it lacked even a hint of a pulse.

Maybe this is a good time to mention: Ren & Stimpy animator/genius/cool dude John Kricfalusi was a guest on the Nerdist podcast on Friday -- all kinds of great stuff in here, including a killer story about an adventure he had with Bob Clampett. lots of stuff about the old school animators, the horrible 80's years, everything. http://www.nerdist.com/2012/08/nerdist-podcast-john-k/

I suck is what's up! Having a job is confusing and takes a lot of time and energy, I'm not used to it. I'm gonna close this out though, I promise.

Also recently found on a hidden web 1.0 page with several UK and European based shorts were in some sort of mid-60's competition.. Clips for Dirty Birdy and Wallace & Gromit were among the dozens of nominees. Years later, my friends found this with no context of what it could be about and we decided it was creepy as hell, and the 20-seconds of dialogue have stuck in my head ever since... "Come from there. Who's your parents? Don't know. Grew up in an orphanage." I just did 20-minutes of Google searching to determine the short is called "Ugly Head," and I've been wanting to view the entire thing since 11 years ago, just out of curiousity.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkpP_U-hjD4
