oh yeah we were at the phoenix! you know, i think we went on like a tuesday. i think their friday nights are particularly ... something
yeah i remember we were in the back room - i like that room. there was NO one in there on friday, everybody was out in the open and looking tall and sleek
― surm, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)
How diverse are the Boystown bars?
As surm put it, basically a "fucking model explosion."
― the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)
And, true to its name, I saw maybe one, maybe two people over the age of 40 there.
hah, morbs and i were also at that phoenix excursion iirc
― moesha my reflection (donna rouge), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)
i was wearing a sweater!
― surm, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)
Really "model explosion"? Maybe I'm understanding that as more exclusive and A-Listy than you mean. Or maybe I know how to avoid them.
The bars I've spent any time have been Bucks, North End, Lucky Horseshoe, Bobby Loves, The Cell Block, and Little Jim's, which were the only ones that stand out from the shinier Boystown thing, at which bars you see plenty of men over 40 (scenes, as listed: sort of bear-ish, sports, strippers, just-a-bar, leather, one of only a few 4:00/5:00 a.m. bars w/ a hint of dive).
The rest of Boystown is kind of homogenous from what I can tell.
― Je55e, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)
I thought surm meant "model explosion" as homogenous, tbh.
― the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:37 (thirteen years ago)
But, then again, I can be a little bit of a yawn boring Sidetrack kind of guy the rare occasions I decide to go out. So stone me.
― the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)
I bailed on "the Phoenix excursion" after we left Julius'. Probably for some fucking movie.
Philly bar most suited for my demographic is called Uncles.
― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)
whatever i love models anyway, wd talk about prada and make out any night of the week
― surm, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)
Julius and Townhouse are my favourite gay bars in NYC, does that make me old?
― Ignite the seven canons (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:37 (thirteen years ago)
julius' is kind of expensive for what it is but i like it, didn't go there very often tho
― moesha my reflection (donna rouge), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)
I think it makes you jailbait-on-a-curve, Owen.
I was at Julius' last night when the Dirty Looks people were showing Tearoom ... kind of didn't work... WCBS-FM and Jeopardy were also playing.
― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:44 (thirteen years ago)
A gay bar where I can watch and play along with Jeopardy is my kind of gay bar.
― to welcome jer.fairall, pie is served. (jer.fairall), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)
Thx for the new screenname, Morbs
― jailbait on a curve (Eric H.), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)
The (kinda hipsterish?) Boystown bar I remember liking was Berlin, right next to the Belmont el station, notably not on Halsted.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:50 (thirteen years ago)
Aw fuck
― I think that makes you jailbait-on-a-curve, (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:52 (thirteen years ago)
oh man – I visited Berlin in 2002 on my first visit to Chicago. Picked up a guy, cautioned my friends to stay away for a couple hours, and couldn't finish the devil's business thanks to their coming in and talking nervous shit about Pearl Jam from the other bed.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)
would've ended my friendship with them right then and there
― moesha my reflection (donna rouge), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)
Damn, well, you deserve it more, Owen P. I am just middle aged now.
― Eric H., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)
he's the one I said got married three days ago.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)
Young in number only, I got an old-man body and old-man problems. I see the appeal of a place like Metropolitan or Nowhere but they're not unique-to-NYC enough for me to want to go, as a visitor. And the last time I went to Sway I got in a fight. (Usually I end up at Von tbh.)
― Ówen P., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)
I visited Berlin in 2002 on my first visit to Chicago
I puzzled over this sentence for ten seconds
― Ówen P., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
At 33, I feel old only in number.
― Eric H., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
And yet, my greatest fear is that one day I'll be one of those people in informercials who is all "I'm in better shape than I was back in high school."
― Eric H., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:03 (thirteen years ago)
imagine if I'd written, "I visited Japan when I was in Orlando"
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)
soooooooooooo i am addicted to this grindr
― surm, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)
it's really a problem
xp If that's your greatest fear I'd say you're doing fine. That said, I never believe people when they say that, like "did you have polio" or "were you grossly obese".
― Ówen P., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)
Plus, they often show side-by-side pics that confirm, no, you are actually not in better shape than you were in high school.
― Eric H., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)
They're liars. Young people are made of rubber.
Would tot drink with you at your next old-man-bar visit, O.
I think I went to Berlin/Chicago once, but this time I didn't even revisit that tin-roofed place with the dark "back 40" (had great moonlit sex there in 2001, maybe).
― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)
someone fly me to chicago
― moesha my reflection (donna rouge), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:35 (thirteen years ago)
Wish I'd had time for the dark back 40.

― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:50 (thirteen years ago)
It's a date, Morbs

― surm, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)
it's summertime take me to your air conditioned bedroom and have your way with me already for fuck's sake
― surm, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)
I'm prepared to find out what it takes to not have to work and to get drunk by 3 p.m.
― Eric H., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)
that will be my next staycation, yr all invited. just don't let me get on the subway.
― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)
The tin roof place is the Manhandler. Berlin is a dance club that has a Madonna night. I went there once as a cultural tourist.
That story linked above about homeless queer youth says that Belmont around Berlin is where sex workers work. I didn't know that. It's weird b/c you turn the corner onto Sheffield and it's pure straight douchetown.
― Je55e, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 19:00 (thirteen years ago)
It's 3pm and the director of this film I'm scoring is playing Journey on my PS3 while I attempt to score this scene for the fifth time. I have no A/C.
― Ówen P., Tuesday, 24 July 2012 19:02 (thirteen years ago)
A co-worker once told me that over the weekend, she had hung out with a girl we both know who "blew a guy she met in Berlin in the alley," and it took us way too long to figure out that we were talking and thinking about different Berlins.

i am in an air conditioned bedroom as of this afternoon! not because of having my way with anyone but because it was the simplest solution to keeping the cat alive and happy and me not crazy neurotic.

that said, if any montreal boys feel the need for some A/C quid pro quo I am not entirely opposed.
can i come over?
sorry i missed ur IM the other night btw! hope you're feeling happy!
― surm, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 20:30 (thirteen years ago)
haha! if y'all are in town, you're more than welcome to drop by.
i am! i was feeling a bit out of sorts because this cat is pressing all of my nervous parent buttons but i am 100% pretty great right now and will probably let myself take a nap once the reptilian parts of my brain get convinced that because he lacks opposable thumbs the cat can probably not tear out the hose/window attachment part of the air conditioner and jump to his death.
