― cherry blossom, Thursday, 9 July 2009 07:30 (sixteen years ago)
altoona?
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:47 (sixteen years ago)
that's impossible but yeah it looks like some pa mining town
― harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:51 (sixteen years ago)
why's it impossible? i'm basing my guess on the little bit of yellow i see at the bottom of the beige mercury sable or whatever's license plate, plus the rolling hills, plus the too small to be pittsburgh.
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:54 (sixteen years ago)
because it looks a lot like a couple places in pa i think. it's hard to tell them apart.
― harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:59 (sixteen years ago)
almost looks too big to be altoona to me
― tehresa, Monday, 30 November 2009 02:00 (sixteen years ago)
it's ashland, pa!
― harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 02:08 (sixteen years ago)
^^ flickr confirms this as fact! sorry, cherry blossom, for webmail summoning you to this thread needlessly.
does winner choose the next photo, is that how this thread works?
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 02:13 (sixteen years ago)
i wanted to go read though! i can pick one tomorrow or something.i'm amazed i knew because there must be 100 places that look like that but i just thought it looked like that one place i made my dad detour to so we could see centralia but i forgot what it was called. i remembered there were signs for anthracite real estate there and i googled it to remember it was ashland.
― harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 02:17 (sixteen years ago)
oh when i said it was impossible i meant it was impossible to guess, not impossible that it was altoona. i don't know what altoona looks like.can someone put up another? i'm no good at picking one
― harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)
I had promised I wasn't going to play this any more, but here's 105:

Well, the ship's the QE2, which doesn't really narrow it down that much really, since it's been everywhere. I'll guess Honolulu.
― ailsa, Monday, 30 November 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)
You usually guess mine instantly, ailsa, but not this time. Here's another angle:

miami?</lazy>
― tehresa, Monday, 30 November 2009 20:29 (sixteen years ago)
galveston?
― harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 20:32 (sixteen years ago)
the downtown structure def. looks north american, and that little jetty looks forested, and the light makes it look fairly high latitude, which makes me think it's in canada, but since there are no mountains within ~50 miles of the first shot, it's not vancouver. maybe an atlantic city like halifax? thunder bay?
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 20:37 (sixteen years ago)
You're all way off.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 30 November 2009 20:38 (sixteen years ago)
A Coruna? Valencia?
― ailsa, Monday, 30 November 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)
perth?
― caek, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:02 (sixteen years ago)
(not the one in scotland)
None of those. I could post a suitably gritty street scene, if you'd prefer to guess from micro rather than macro.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:03 (sixteen years ago)
i thought maybe it was perth earlier, but it doesn't seem to match the google maps aerial. then i checked all 100K+ cities in new zealand, no go. can you tell us which hemisphere this is in? i've already spent way too much time on this one.
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:05 (sixteen years ago)
yeah post that street scene
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:06 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, I've just been googling round European ports with no joy.
― ailsa, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:07 (sixteen years ago)
durban?
― caek, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:09 (sixteen years ago)
that looks like a rugby ground to me
the buildings almost look too modern to be a developed european city, plus the stadium in the lower left of the second picture looks like a soccer stadium now that i think about it. so now i think this is def. south america and not def. north america like i thought before.
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:09 (sixteen years ago)
(yes, or "rugby")
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:10 (sixteen years ago)
is it kingston
― harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:10 (sixteen years ago)
I thought it was an athletics ground or a v. old football stadium

Results 1 - 10 of about 10,500 for "mr phone". (0.17 seconds)
damn it
― iiiijjjj, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:18 (sixteen years ago)
Correct ailsa, but caek gets the points!
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:18 (sixteen years ago)
I googled MTN, found they were South African, and went straight for Durban on google maps
(the ground is a cricket ground, btw)
― ailsa, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:19 (sixteen years ago)
Sorry for postponing your moment of triumph, caek, but the street scene picture took about ten minutes to upload - I was bloody well posting it after that wait.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:20 (sixteen years ago)
Oh, I never even spotted caek saying Durban. FAIL!
― ailsa, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:21 (sixteen years ago)
hahah
― caek, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:23 (sixteen years ago)

― caek, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)

durban was a really good one, btw.
