Last major of the year. Tiger was listed as the favourite yesterday--9-1, with Donald next at 18-1--which surprises me, but I guess that's simply guided by where bettors are actually putting their money. Absent that, I wouldn't make him the favourite in a major right now. The only logical favourite these days is whoever hasn't won one within the last four years.

Woods is just one of the guys now, which is actually an improvement over the last 2 years, but really they're all just one of the guys now. No one player or two players have separated themselves from the pack in the last 4 years so I guess he's as much a favourite as anyone else.

I have no clue who'll win this. Dustin Johnson maybe? Even tho' he's having a less than stellar season.

Best I've seen Tiger drive for years. Also McIlroy hit literally the worst putt I have ever seen from a professional golfer.

Mcllroy in being awesome then...to come back from the kind of form he was showing earlier in the season is quite something.

PGA is the duddest of the 4 majors. Still cool to see Rory run away with it after Poulter drifted backwards.

it might ruffle some feathers but surely the majority of ppl are far enough along now to realise that UK citizens living in NI might identify with that side of the heritage as easily and legitimately as eg Irvine insisting on the tricolour in F1. Can't imagine it'll be a big deal.

what is annoying is it will slightly affect our ability to cheer him on as one of our own, and that's going to be important when he starts winning 3/4 majors a year.

if you accept that, you lose at least some of the ability to cheer any of the NI athletes. I don't think he has a problem with being claimed by both sides, it's got to be something that all NI celebrities are aware of. Can't imagine that he's asking the irish to stop cheering for him, he's just clarifying his own position, which he's obv got the right to do.

I don't find it gratifying when someone who identifies as Irish feels the need to use their celebrity to have a go at the UK heritage of NI either.

it's not really that I'd stop from the POV of disowning him or something, more that I'd feel less entitled to do so after he's had to sort of declare himself as UK. but yeah of course will always root for him. what's weird is that both him and g-mac seem Irish to me.
