Living in a state of disaster

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

84º/29º here today.

Too effin hot status repealed for a while.

Je55e, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

Holy shit the extended forecast says it's going to be in the mid-70s on July 27th. I know that once you get past like, four days out it's just chicken guts and tea leaves but I'm going to believe in the truth of that forecast with every fiber of my being.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)

every two weeks or so we get a day in the low-to-mid 80s, and it always seems to rain all day

your friend, (Z S), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

temp has dropped 20° in the last two hours

mookieproof, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 22:05 (thirteen years ago)

When it drizzled today, the sidewalk steamed.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:55 (thirteen years ago)

Yes! I noticed that when I left to catch the bus this morning.

You know what else I hate about hot weather (and humidity, which even with the temp drop it is still humid as fuck out there)? In the winter, I can easily get two or three wears out of a garment between washings because I've got underclothes on and I'm not sweating. But now everything is touching my sweaty, sticky skin so I have to wash it, which means more laundry and my clothes wear out faster. Harrumph!

carl agatha, Thursday, 19 July 2012 00:03 (thirteen years ago)

That's a problem. I wear underclothes and hand wash and spot wash a lot in the summer, but nothing works like a full wash on wilted, clammy clothes.

mookieproof, Sunday, 22 July 2012 22:13 (thirteen years ago)

i thought this year's weather oddity was caused by jetstream or something

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 23 July 2012 01:28 (thirteen years ago)

I went for a walk in the woods by my house today. Normally, no one is in there. But I found a hobo's camp...very tidy! He had a tarp, blanket and fire pit, plus dishwashing liquid. Clearly not some drunk guy but someone who knows what he is doing. Must have been out for the day.

It's so hot I almost envied him! Imagine sleeping under pines in this.

โตเกียวเหมียวเหมียว aka Truck Bombing Begins at Home (Mount Cleaners), Monday, 23 July 2012 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

I'd rather sleep under the air conditioner.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 23 July 2012 23:21 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry, I got on the wrong train and had to do two station's worth of stair/ramp climbing and then also twice as much sitting in the sun and waiting and I am drenched in sweat and miserable.

sorry, just, like...80 degrees at night is babypants

catbus otm (gbx), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 02:25 (thirteen years ago)

It barely hit 80 here today. It's been a weird damn summer, with June, July and August in decreasing order of AAAAAGGGGHHHH

Romney's Kitchen Nightmares (WmC), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 02:30 (thirteen years ago)

Today's high was 67/19 and it's 66/19 right now, but it was still really uncomfortable all day b/c the dew point hovered around 62-63/17, so it was soggy and almost chilly. Better 67 and uncomfy than 97 and miserable tho.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 02:42 (thirteen years ago)

Oh! I thought about this thread last night b/c it was the 3rd night in a row that I slept with the A/C off ( I did still run a window fan, ceiling fan, and desk fan by my bed on high). The last time I slept with no A/C was a couple nights in the last week in June.

When I got the email notice that my electricity bill was available, I didn't look; I just went onto my bank's bill pay and sent the $100. There's no way it was that much (I don't think??), but July already hurt me once and seeing the number won't change anything. I'll just enjoy the credit toward the next bill.

91 feels like 98

Mordy , Sunday, 7 July 2013 17:35 (twelve years ago)

almost unbearable indoors this weekend in Manchester.

piscesx, Sunday, 7 July 2013 17:50 (twelve years ago)

96 feels like 103

mookieproof, Sunday, 7 July 2013 17:52 (twelve years ago)

84 today. Hot, but not unbearable. Good for going outside and working up a good sweat. Dew point is really my enemy.

Jeff, Sunday, 7 July 2013 17:53 (twelve years ago)

Among the many lessons of my time in Baja is that I do not want to do summer here again. Ever.

Had dinner with friends last night (clams they dug that morning, prepared three ways--so Baja does have its upsides). They are all "oh this heat is nothing, just wait until September." GAH!

Am coping by refusing to leave the comfort of blessed, blessed air conditioning until after the sun sinks behind the mountains at 7:30 p.m.

quincie, Sunday, 7 July 2013 19:16 (twelve years ago)

Oof, I thought it was bad here - 85, feels like 93.

I've always suspected that when ppl say, "Sure, deserts are hot but it's dry heat, you just move slowly and stay inside during the day, trap cooler night air with fans, drink enough water" what they really mean is NICE KNOWING YOU, SORRY YOU ARE ABOUT TO PERISH IN HELL ON EARTH.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:19 (twelve years ago)

'ya deserts are hot but it's a dry heat so I really don't notice, also I haven't left an air conditioned building or car for 10 years'

iatee, Monday, 15 July 2013 19:23 (twelve years ago)

Only 82F/28C here?? So say multiple sources, but it's just unbearable out there.

potatoes-in-law (Je55e), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:30 (twelve years ago)

I grew up in the South. I remember the heatwave where the high temp never dropped below 100º for three weeks. I've partied in New Orleans in July where you had to wring your clothes out at the end of the night (or sometime the next day.)

So I had this "dry heat" thing down when we made the road trip to Vegas with a three-day stay somewhere between Tucson and El Paso. And while we were walking across this quad toward an art gallery on the University of Arizona campus, and the world shifted sideways, and the next thing I knew was my friends standing over me, helping me up, I fully realized then that the degrees of hot are wide.

pplains, Monday, 15 July 2013 19:33 (twelve years ago)

haha yes I think for southerners a dry heat *feels* less intense but it's probably just as stressful, if not more, on the body.

ryan, Monday, 15 July 2013 19:34 (twelve years ago)

Yeah I just could not. It's cooler in my nabe than most other parts of the city and if I stay outside for too long I just get sick. It's something like chronic pain, in a lesser way, in that the physical discomfort just takes more energy to function around and after a while I don't have the emotional resources anymore.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

Oh yeah. I remember a multi-week over 100 heatwave many years ago when I lived on the third floor of a house without AC, and just lying on the floor with a fan blowing directly on me and crying because I hadn't slept more than an hour or two in days because it was just so so so hot.

Lawyer... SUAVE... (carl agatha), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:40 (twelve years ago)

It's eight degrees hotter in NYC right now than it is in Little Rock. This has been a strange year.

pplains, Monday, 15 July 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)

Lying on the floor because the BED was too hot to touch, with a wringing wet towel over me and the fan blowing...hello, Jersey City Summer 2000 or so. Taking a shower with the cold FULL ON and not being able to put a body part outside the water stream because the air was oven-like--that was a bad year.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:44 (twelve years ago)

jesus wept this is dreadful.

something is wrong with the local weather when i am looking forward to visiting little rock and west texas in august

caek, Monday, 15 July 2013 19:45 (twelve years ago)

Stay in your room as much as poss, caek, the next 3 days or so are going to be even worse. It's not so bad here in the Sty if you don't move around but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the city.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:48 (twelve years ago)
