when I ordered poutine in a zoo the girl laughed at my French uncontrollably - it was awkward, though she didnt come acorss as condescending. it must have been like someone saying "I may please purchase your fine and wonderous fry of france now?"

if i were a little kid outside in a stroller today i would never stop crying

as an adult i only took a break for lunch

mookieproof, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

Only took a break from crying for lunch?

carl agatha, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:10 (thirteen years ago)

yes

now i'm even more dehydrated

mookieproof, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:11 (thirteen years ago)

There were two toddlers in a double stroller on the train platform yesterday, girls judging from the shoes, and they were stripped down to their underpants and just sprawled out as much as possible in a heat-induced stupor. Poor kids!!!

carl agatha, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:11 (thirteen years ago)

After I got to work today I was not outside again until I left to bike home at 4:30, at which time the time/temp sign downtown read 93, and with the humidity it felt like about 100. That was a looooong 8 miles.

Marco YOLO (Phil D.), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:18 (thirteen years ago)

oh man you know those econo double strollers with like a claustrophobic hammock underneath? if i were in that i would stop crying and just bang my head against anything available.

mookieproof, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

Everyone at the office was pissy and curt today, except me. Instead of being cranky, I was just operating at ultra-minimal mental bandwidth, which sucked b/c in my torpor I messed up and got confused a lot, inflaming the others' irritable moods. Nothing terrible, but it sucked the rest of the life out of me and now all I want to do is figure out which movie I can watch that will help me cry.

Have any of you seen a squirrel splayed out on the sidewalk, trying to stay cool? It looks hilarious.

Today, when I was watering the tomatoes, a beautiful red cardinal flapped down to romp in the hose.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 23:55 (thirteen years ago)

^ my plans for tonight, tbh

when its as hot as it was today - and i was lucky to be inside working for most of it - i do kinda wonder what the hell it would feel like if it was hotter. at one point do you stop noticing a difference?

likely to not be funny to those who weren't there but whatever:

on a hot day carl a. and i were outside and she commented on the way i was awkwardly holding my arms away from my body. i limply tried to explain by saying only, "have you ever seen a chicken get hot?"

"have you ever seen a chicken get hot?" should have, but never did catch on as an in-joke, but at least it was funny the rest of the day.

Je55e, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 01:09 (thirteen years ago)

its still 90 degrees outside right now. pretty uh warm. we've got the ac on. we've had it on for weeks. electric bill should be fun.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 01:25 (thirteen years ago)

nothing but fans here

have some sort of vortex going on with the three of them

that's why Love made the weirdos (brownie), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 01:35 (thirteen years ago)

We've got a cat visiting our backyard, and Beeps and I went about the neighborhood this evening looking for his owner.

We knocked on one door and their electric bill was sticking out. $37. Jealousy pored through me like gravy.

pplains, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 03:46 (thirteen years ago)

I have never seen a chicken get hot, despite my grandparents having chicken houses when I was a kid. I did used to go play with the biddies. Also ate a lot of chicken.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 12:37 (thirteen years ago)

so this is how the world ends, huh?

big-mammed punisher (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

if NEXT summer is the hottest summer ever in history, then yeah this is how the world ends. i don't think you can have ten of the hottest summers ever in a row or whatever without getting the hint.

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 13:45 (thirteen years ago)

for real, everyone will forget about this in October. that's what happened the last several times we broke the global temperature record. then there will be snow in the winter and everyone will be like "where is your global warming now, lol! we don't understand how probability works!". then summer 2013 will be pretty hot but not quite as hot as summer 2012 and everyone will be like "it's always hot in summer! it's normal to have wildfires running rampant everywhere, let's go to the beach!". then summer 2014 will be recordbreaking hell-humiliating hot, and we'll all be like "god damn this is terrible!" and the cycle will start again

your friend, (Z S), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 13:52 (thirteen years ago)

20 warmest years on record are all within the last 20 years. maybe we will go through a cooling phase next...

scott seward, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 13:54 (thirteen years ago)

On Fox Business Network this Tuesday evening, Neil Cavuto argued that we should respond to the deadly heat wave that is gripping the nation by drilling for more oil:

It is hot and I’m bothered. Nothing like a heat wave to burn my energy butt. This country is roasting, screaming for energy and we’re still blocking so much energy. We’ve got no drilling, just spending more green on green that invariably comes up red.

“Climate science is in shambles,” claimed fellow FBN anchor David Asman, who has compared climate scientists to Hitler. “In fact, it’s been cool for the past couple of years.”

“The longer this [heat wave] drags on, the more the issue of climate change will be raised,” moaned Cavuto.

“A very very shaky science is being used to formulate public policy.” concluded Asnan. “Thank you, David ‘Brainiac’ Asman,” replied Cavuto, before turning to a “Fox Body Alert” on swimsuit model Kate Upton.
