So my high school friend who performs as "Tammy Pescatelli" had an interaction with an audience member in Jacksonville, FL the other night; Tammy chided her for sitting in the front row and fucking around on her phone for the whole show, and after some back and forth which included the woman saying, "I'm not actually blonde" and Tammy replying, "No kidding! Who did you think you were fooling," the woman threw a full glass of wine at her head. Luckily she was able to duck, but despite a room full of people willing to make statements, police who were called to the show refused to arrest her. WTF?

I'm filing this away in the always-growing file titled "Jacksonville Is A Shithole".

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 July 2012 01:20 (thirteen years ago)

occupational hazard. apparently some mob guys broke Joe Piscopo's nose once.

He never performed that Frank Sinatra impression in public again.

the pear cider finale of that special is phenomenal, but I don't know if anyone would really get it if they haven't seen the commercial.

I have no idea what ad this is at all but that's one of my favorite Stewart Lee bits. "don't put any feelings into the pear"
I went on a pretty big pear cider bit because of it too because I wanted more opportunities to say "give it to me straight like a pear cider that's made from 100 percent pears." Also because I am highly suggestible and even a comedy bit about an ad campaign works like an ad for me, I really wanted some pear cider.

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Saturday, 14 July 2012 04:42 (thirteen years ago)

Pear cider is my drink of choice at this point. I get bummed when a bar doesn't offer it and I have to settle for beer or regular cider.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 July 2012 05:08 (thirteen years ago)

i have never been to a comedy club. apparently i am even more otm than i previously considered possible

If I ever return to standup after my 20+ year break, a la Paul Newman in The Color of Money, u r all invited.

This is clearly morally right, but I found it a hard principle to hew to when in the states.

I saw the promo for that and considered selling my tv but thought better of it.

Has Tosh responded to this at all yet?

that George Lopez special was... something

it was basically an hour of him cursing in Spanish

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 16 July 2012 17:14 (thirteen years ago)

half the jokes on Tosh.0 are already "lol i'm gay and my show is lazy garbage" self-zings (xpost)

last week: "ICP's fans are mostly uneducated white trash...just like the fans of this show"

frogbs, Monday, 16 July 2012 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

What makes me the angriest about this whole thing is how much I have had to think and talk about that fucking idiot in the past week, when I was happily not thinking about him at all prior to that.

They need to set up some kind of reparation fund.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 17:27 (thirteen years ago)

well I am trying in vain to talk about George Lopez but no one is biting

you're not offering much of a tradeoff

Also, surprised they couldn't get a gay porn star who actually looks like Daniel Tosh.

look, I can only work with what I've recently seen; in fact, I explicitly watched that special so that I could come onto this thread and have a "why did I watch that" conversation with like-minded masochists

ok at least with the last post i know now never mind (xpost)

some dude, Monday, 16 July 2012 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

xxpost hahah

I could barely sit through the intro to his latenight show, I don't know how you sat through a whole special

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

ha that was intentional vagueness

I shamefully admit I did laugh at his "that's why they call it H1N1" joke

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Monday, 16 July 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

in those few months TBS pushed Lopez's talk show back to after Conan before finally canceling it, i'd occasionally catch a few minutes of his show when i was too lazy to change the channel after Conan, and it was really strange how strained and flopsweat-drenched he always seemed for a seasoned comic. i vaguely remember thinking of him as a decent standup way back before he got a sitcom but his monologues were like sub-Leno.

some dude, Monday, 16 July 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)

So I'm going to the Outside Lands festival in SF this year, and they just announced some of the acts in their 'Barbary Coast' tent

David Cross
Neil Patrick Harris
Chris Hardwick
Delocated Witness Protection Program Variety Show with Jon Glaser
Hot Tub with Kristen Schaal and Kurt Braunholer
Brett Gelman
David Koechner
Jonah Ray
Jackie Kashian
Ron Funches
and some other names I didn't recognise but

:D

I may not see as many bands as I planned on lol

Rory is a badass!

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 01:42 (thirteen years ago)

I've been looking up clips online ever since, dude is a killer. That slow delivery....and that lunchables moment in the Conan bit where he turns the fact that he's not getting a laugh into a laugh, I think he's kinda genius.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 02:04 (thirteen years ago)

Got a text to come see Eddie Izzard in a 50-person venue above a pub yesterday.

It was real, he was live on stage :)

As part of an improv troupe :(

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 07:16 (thirteen years ago)

That Moshe Kasher is great!

The Conan clip "not available in my country," though. Boo!

I'm not sure what the ilm opinion is on Mitch Hedberg, but my wife and I have really enjoyed watching his old TV appearances from early in his career.

i watched a lot of rory last night. thanks! i like the youtube clips where he is performing in the lobby of a hotel.

Rory Scovell is a dude who knows how to handle hecklers. On his most recent CD he turns an interaction with a heckler who objects to a joke about Detroit into an entire bit that's probably the funniest material on there.

Marco YOLO (Phil D.), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:11 (thirteen years ago)

here's the hotel thing. lol.

scott seward, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:13 (thirteen years ago)

I saw a Mitch Hedburg clip from 1995 (!) - he was actually really handsome then! Not as funny as his later stuff but some of the same stuff appeared and he definitely had his awkward style worked out already

frogbs, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:16 (thirteen years ago)

I probably watch the same clip, he looked way different! Of course, I'm sure the drugs took thier toll. I hesitate to really call him "brilliant", but his sense of humor aligns so closely with mine that he just slays me every time.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:17 (thirteen years ago)

I do think he's brilliant in his way, maybe as close to the second coming of Steven Wright as we'll ever get. I had a friend who was nuts over him and drove 3 hours to see him live and came back super dejected (this was like a month or so before he died) because he was barely coherant, not in the way he usually is, but unable to even form a real joke. Stuff like that kinda makes me glad that Ween broke up, y'know?

frogbs, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:22 (thirteen years ago)

i love Steven Wright. never liked Hedberg remotely as much, kinda resented the comparisons.

some dude, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

Came into work one day and the escalator in my building was not working, and had an "out of order" sign in front of it, and I just reflexively heard Hedberg's voice in my head. "It just turned into stairs!"

Marco YOLO (Phil D.), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

hey guys, i have a pass to the just for laughs festival here in mtl next week what should i go see?
