Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 July 2012 04:45 (thirteen years ago)

i'm in the "seen CI, never seen WT" camp as well

i don't think gay guys are exempt from feeling some form of desire to raise children, which is maybe an obvious statement but eh, ok. i kinda think it's maybe more cultural than biological for most people but our culture likes to pretend a uterus makes you crazy and that a woman's mind is simply at the mercy of the rest of her biology.

my bf and his best friend (bi/f) made a plan to co-parent a kid together if they were both single at 27. that didn't happen and THANK GOD for that.

I never did watch Melrose or Dawson or 90210

alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:03 (thirteen years ago)

ugh that COVER.

surm, Friday, 13 July 2012 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

(Side note: I'm shamed to say I think it was certain photo spreads in EW that convinced me beyond the shadow of a doubt that I was gay. Though not that MP one.)

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

post!

I did watch DC, but largely out of fascination with JvdB's giant mailbox head.

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:05 (thirteen years ago)

LOL nostalgia.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:07 (thirteen years ago)

Surm, rank DC, MP, 90210, and Po5

alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:17 (thirteen years ago)

And any other 90s teen dramas I'm forgetting

alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:18 (thirteen years ago)

stevie, do you not qualify MSCL as a 90s teen drama, or is it just in a league of its own?

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

90210 MP Po5 DC

surm, Friday, 13 July 2012 14:21 (thirteen years ago)

(duh)

surm, Friday, 13 July 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

MSCL is obv in a league of its own; it doesn't seem as, I don't know, needlessly melodramatic or frivolous as those 4

alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

"I miss Minneapolis."

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

MSCL was, however fitfully, trying to depict real teenagers played (mostly) by teenagers.

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 July 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

I possibly had the same experience as Eric re: EW photo spreads. For me, it was the '93 Marky Mark profile, I'm not unashamed to admit.

That one was definitely in the mix. I seem to remember an Antonio Sabato, um, piece as well.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

Don't remember that one, and my fam subscribed from about 92 on through most of the decade.

Was gonna amend my previous statement to something about watching The Pirate Movie and The Blue Lagoon a couple years prior to Marky Mark in EW, but that was more like just planting the seeds.

There was an illustration of Beck in the EW Best of '94 issue that I found alluring (huge image):

Not the point of the convo at all, but I always thought David Browne was a pretty great critic. Wonder where he writes now.

to welcome jer.fairall, pie is served. (jer.fairall), Friday, 13 July 2012 15:46 (thirteen years ago)

xpost Yeah, I remember that one. Looks kinda Pomplamoosey in retrospect.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 15:47 (thirteen years ago)

Don't like that Browne referred to Erotica as an iceberg. Or, rather, didn't like that he didn't get that that was partly the point.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

I seem to remember an Antonio Sabato, um, piece as well.

OMG he was on melrose
SO FUCKIN HOT

surm, Friday, 13 July 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)

My bf always hated EW solely because of that Erotica review (his favorite album). What's funny is that around 93-94 Browne wrote a piece where he revisited some of his older opinions and he talks about how he now realized how much he underrated that particular record.

to welcome jer.fairall, pie is served. (jer.fairall), Friday, 13 July 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

tbh i underrated it at the time of its release too

surm, Friday, 13 July 2012 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

I think everyone did.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

i was a SPIN subscriber around the time i "realized" and...well, it played a part

radical ferry (donna rouge), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)

haha, I tried to remember what Erotica was, and concluded it was her dirty photo book.

No pics online of the shirtless college boys who cut my apartment complex's lawn in the mid '70s, alas.

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

that EW "Legends" issue from summer '93 was responsible for my discovering a bunch of film classics.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:19 (thirteen years ago)

There was a top 50 directors issue a year or two later that actually really kicked off my film school period.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

And I'm sure I also took their pic of Alfred Hitchcock with me into the bathroom.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

Are Morbs and me the only two participants on this thread that DON'T contribute to the Singles Jukebox?

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:48 (thirteen years ago)

i don't. i've never really written about music anywhere

radical ferry (donna rouge), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:52 (thirteen years ago)

(for which you should all be thankful)

radical ferry (donna rouge), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:52 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like I write about new music more than I would like, and yet I love the format and want to be a part of it.

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 16:53 (thirteen years ago)

You totally should. I sometimes think about jumping back in -- I haven't contributed in a couple of years.

Never translate Dutch (jaymc), Friday, 13 July 2012 17:01 (thirteen years ago)

You jump, I jump, right?

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 17:06 (thirteen years ago)

I don't contribute but it's pretty much the only website I read regularly

Ówen P., Friday, 13 July 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

That and friendblogs

Ówen P., Friday, 13 July 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

i don't. WORDS ARE USELESS. ESPECIALLY SENTENCES.
