haha i was just gonna say that friends' babies are fun cuz they're not yours. "here - it's hungry!" "here - it needs to be changed!" "oh it's happy again GIVE IT BACK!" "bored now. you look tired!" "oh it's screaming - well, must be off, see you in a bit"

i think the gay uncle role (not actual uncle obv) is one i can embrace anyway. i have literally zero inclination to be a father, and give thanks for this on a regular basis.

(btw i once put a baby in a bin when i was babysitting it)

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Thursday, 12 July 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

yes, as Q. Crisp also said, why would you throw away the #1 advantage of being gay?

(yes, this is somewhat tongue-in-cheek except as it applies to me)

a bin is a bloody garbage can, isn't it?

b and i hung out with a friend of his who has a 2-yr-old. i think between the three adults we had like, ten minutes of grownup talk and the rest of the afternoon was like "oh, she's hungry! you want this food? you want..no? ok, let's stomp around this museum for awhile! *thwacks benches for five minutes straight*"

xp lol wtf lex!

radical ferry (donna rouge), Thursday, 12 July 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

it IS the #1 advantage of being gay though.

it was a small woven rattan wastepaper basket which was clean and didn't have a bag in it. i wanted to make sure the baby didn't crawl off the sofa while i went to make myself toast. then i forgot about it. then its parents came home :/

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Thursday, 12 July 2012 21:11 (thirteen years ago)

(the baby basically fit perfectly inside the bin, i even checked its head was supported, and it DIDN'T EVEN CRY)

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Thursday, 12 July 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)

and you didn't even throw out the bathwater.

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 12 July 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i was actually quite psyched to not be expected to have kids, or get married back then for that matter. my mom's best friend my godfather was also gay so everything was a bit easy for me i guess.

fauxmarc, Thursday, 12 July 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

fauxmarc, Thursday, 12 July 2012 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

My cousin who I'm least close to, who is my age and divorced, brought a very butch young woman with her to our last xmas gathering, but that's it for gay fam.

My niece likes Tilly and the Wall, which I swear I had nothing to do with.

I got a sexually and ethnically diverse family but still got some hilarious comments at the first Thanksgiving w bf

OPÓ (Ówen P.), Thursday, 12 July 2012 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

i.e. "Oh you MUST meet my father's caregiver, she's from Laos! No, wait... Vietnam! Her name is Trinh, what ethnicity is that?" ".............."

OPÓ (Ówen P.), Thursday, 12 July 2012 22:26 (thirteen years ago)

There were a few comments that involved the word "chappie" that I shouldn't relate

OPÓ (Ówen P.), Thursday, 12 July 2012 22:29 (thirteen years ago)

Gotta admit my ignorance over the derogatory properties of "chappie." Please enlighten? More old-person gay slang?

My bf's ex-boss would occasionally refer to him and other gay employees as "fun boys." She was later forced to attend a "respect in the workplace" seminar.

The 60+ age group in my family uses the word "chappie" occasionally, and never to refer to any specific ethnicity, religious group or sexuality. It does almost always mean a non-WASP or non-heterosexual. And it's meant to imply a sort of jocular familiarity with that 'other'. "My parents would never have objected if I went on a date with a Jewish chappie" for example.

OPÓ (Ówen P.), Thursday, 12 July 2012 22:40 (thirteen years ago)

my dad asked how my "friend" was on the phone last week. guess he's not yet comfortable with appending "boy-" to the front of it

radical ferry (donna rouge), Thursday, 12 July 2012 23:12 (thirteen years ago)

my mom's always been totally fine but has also always been "friend"

OPÓ (Ówen P.), Thursday, 12 July 2012 23:22 (thirteen years ago)

"friend" is a necessary drabness, i don't let it bother me, but i bet would surprise myself by how much i'd be willing to part with if by doing so i could force everyone to call my bf "fun boy" instead of "friend" from now.

Misc. Carnivora (Matt P), Thursday, 12 July 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)

Pretty much the cutest

OPÓ (Ówen P.), Friday, 13 July 2012 00:35 (thirteen years ago)

What a dashing couple!!

alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 13 July 2012 01:00 (thirteen years ago)

Important question: is 'dashing' one of those words like 'dapper' that while once a kind of foppish straight guy compliment now has a vague air of gay about it? or is it still the sort of thing one says of str8 dudes?

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 13 July 2012 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't know dapper was va-gay, nor dashing

alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 13 July 2012 01:59 (thirteen years ago)

Well turn it off!

the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Friday, 13 July 2012 02:03 (thirteen years ago)

Hah I realized shortly after I came up w it that it'd be really not-intuitive and hard to decode but didn't care.

I always mix up Wild Things and Cruel Intentions and have seen neither; which one is the good one or are they both the good one? I picked Wild Things and Glitter up for 99c ea the other day.

alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 13 July 2012 02:08 (thirteen years ago)

i remember ci being fun and nothing about wild things. i was into buffy and crushed on phillipe tho so there was attachment already

fauxmarc, Friday, 13 July 2012 02:48 (thirteen years ago)

cruel intentions is great and also has joshua jackson as a louche bleached-blond gay drug dealer. i've never seen wild things though, i don't think

1staethyr, Friday, 13 July 2012 03:04 (thirteen years ago)

never saw CI, liked Wild Things but then I have a taste for raw Bacon.

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 July 2012 04:45 (thirteen years ago)

i'm in the "seen CI, never seen WT" camp as well

radical ferry (donna rouge), Friday, 13 July 2012 07:07 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think gay guys are exempt from feeling some form of desire to raise children, which is maybe an obvious statement but eh, ok. i kinda think it's maybe more cultural than biological for most people but our culture likes to pretend a uterus makes you crazy and that a woman's mind is simply at the mercy of the rest of her biology.

my bf and his best friend (bi/f) made a plan to co-parent a kid together if they were both single at 27. that didn't happen and THANK GOD for that.
