Jezebel is terrible and frequently offensive. I also don't think it's ever made me laugh? It was better with Mo.

bamcquern, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:39 (thirteen years ago)

That's fine. No law requires you to engage with me. xp

Marco YOLO (Phil D.), Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

btw if you constantly find yourself in arguments on ilx because people "misunderstand what you say," it probably means you aren't expressing yourself very well (this applies to more than one poster on this thread)

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:43 (thirteen years ago)

which ones!?!??!?!

frogbs, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

That could be. It's not my experience in 99% of my experiences on ILX, however, if you feel I'm not expressing myself very well, you may be comforted to know that I'm always trying to communicate better and more effectively. xp

Mordy, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

hahahaha that applies to certain posters who no longer post as well

Mr. Que, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry, got called to impromptu meeting.

Okay so Mordy, I have noticed you being off on women's ish topics lately, and it kind of built up and has changed how I feel about you, definitely. But partly because I didn't expect that from you before? So, new world, whatever.

But also in the context of rape jokes and feminism and the outcry about this thing, it is actually not about you? This thread, OR my anger--they are not about YOU. It's about how horrible rape is, and rape jokes are, and people who make them are, and that, ad infinitum. IN THAT CONTEXT, it would be really trust-building and -reinforcing if a thread full of men, and there are hardly any women anywhere in this whole discussion (I see that veg g threw down for a second yesterday), could be minimally sensitive about it? It's actually not enough just to agree that rape jokes are bad or whatever, that's the MINIMUM here.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)

You're doing a phenomenal job yourself, chief.

frogbs, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)

Wait hold up Mordy, what you actually said is "jezebel not at the top of my list of blogs who i'd trust with humor related advice".

I can see how you might mean "They're not funny so I wouldn't trust them with funny" but outside your head, you didn't call them unfunny, you called them humourless. You call a feminist site unfunny, people will go "yeah, so what?" - you call them humourless, that's a very different thing.

And I, who doesn't have a history with you (that I know of - nowadays I only notice ILxors when they've been around five years) thought that was what you were saying. And I tutted. Silently, but I tutted.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

You don't read enough Jezebel then

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure I've been around longer than five years. I'm sorry I called Jezebel not trustworthy with humor related advice.

Mordy, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

shakey pls to be posting more dangerfield

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

just wanted to say i appreciate laurel's contributions to this thread very much. this whole brouhaha bummed me out for most of yesterday and has left me feeling sensitive to things i would normally blow off. like i don't normally stan for jezebel at all, but hearing a women-focused publication dismissed for not being funny upthread made me feel shitty. frogbs' continued glibness after that "ugh everyone shut UP about PRIVILEGE" post yesterday made me feel shitty. folks using this as an excuse to go after WCC made me feel shitty.

the bibles fake lol don't trust a book (reddening), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)

WCC isn't your fucking mascot. This is twice now she's been mentioned in a thread she hasn't posted in.

Mordy, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:37 (thirteen years ago)

the convo in the "posts v. much in character" thread was essentially an extension of this one.

the bibles fake lol don't trust a book (reddening), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:38 (thirteen years ago)

big difference: that was a conversation + thread she was participating in

If so much stuff posted on a goddamn internet message board, especially one about stand up comedy, makes you feel so "shitty", you may want to suck it up a little bit.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:40 (thirteen years ago)

can everyone itt who's come here to beef with mordy or cheer on laurel just...I dunno...go start a mordy beef thread. go start a board where you all shout at each other and no one talks and it'll be awesome.

seriously there's no discussion being had here, everyone's just rehashing old beefs and it's fucking boring.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

since this is a thread where ppl are getting their "here's a thing you do that sucks" on -- Whiney? This? Kinda thing?

itt a Workaholics fan schools people on what is funny

is grade school shit. I know it passes for hilarious on some ILM threads but you are too old for it now. I like a lot of music I'm sure you hate, but "you can't take what this guy says seriously - he likes Braid!" or w/e is something that it's time for you to outgrow. Also, clean your room, also, your mother and I have been talking and we think you should trim the beard, it may be the fashion but clean looks will never go out of style, love, Dad.

perry en concrète (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:45 (thirteen years ago)

At this point I no longer care that I cannot verify the accuracy of the Rodney quotes I found on about.com, they may be our only hope.

cwkiii, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)

workaholics is pretty unfunny tbh. not that liking it should invalidate anyone's opinions but it's terrible and if i ever said a kind word about it i regret it thoroughly

Mordy, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)

Outside of a very few things, Comedy Central has totally turned into BROTOWN USA.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:48 (thirteen years ago)

reddening, I am truly sorry if I ruined your day, but if someone saying they don't find Jezebel to be funny makes you feel attacked, maybe you need to take a step back and look at some puppy pictures

frogbs, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

braid slays

max, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

btw i didn't post what i did with the intention of beefing; to me, WCC represents someone who is able to articulate feminist concerns thoroughly and forcefully in a way that i can't, and that's why i'm sensitive to people bringing up beefs with her while she was in the middle of a good series of posts about feminist argument. but i understand the whole thing is fraught and complicated, fair enough.

the bibles fake lol don't trust a book (reddening), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:50 (thirteen years ago)

A DOZEN ROSES IN THE CAR / AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU AREEEEEE

Mordy, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:50 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not discussing ilx posters in this thread who are not participating in this thread, even though I would love to.

Mordy, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)

I saw two episodes of Workaholics last year and they made me laugh. I haven't watched it at all this season. I only threw it in my list of CC shows because it was better than Ugly Americans and Tosh.0 and regretted it as soon as I hit submit since I don't really watch it.

I see you, Pineapple Teef (DJP), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

Can we talk now about why the hell Dave Chappelle doesn't just put together a new hour and set the standard again? I get that he doesn't want any spotlight, but he's not locked away in some remote cabin either. He's out there doing sets that, by all accounts, are as funny as he's ever done. CHAPPELLE 2012!!!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

Neal Brennan said on his podcast that Chappelle said to him recently that he's found that he doesn't 'need' standup the way he used to. He still likes it, but the laughs and adoration doesn't feed him the way it did before. Something's definitely changed in him, I think?

I sure hope he gets his stuff fleshed out and tours properly, regardless. He was supposed to do a warmup show in Sac and cancelled, I was super bummed.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

someone check the gearscor of Chappelle's WoW toon; then we'll know exactly how much we should hate Blizzard

I see you, Pineapple Teef (DJP), Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

i love workaholics. and yeah you guys should start a beef thread for each other if you feel like beefing.

scott seward, Thursday, 12 July 2012 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not gonna fault a guy for not needing to do what once drove him mad, but it's a shame his new material only shows up in clips and blips every now and then instead of a proper full-length set. I just miss him is all.
