a gay porn tumblr of airbrushed teenflesh gifs run through instagram filters
Hello, http://fyeahhipsterboys.tumblr.com/
I need to clean out my account one of these days.

to me, the new dire homonormativity is more young gay men who are obsessed with avant-garde fashion, pop music, sex, and nothing else. two of the people in that photo above have told me, "You think too much.]
also known as the old dire heteronormativity

Alas, I was not here when Sodom ran.
Showing William E. Jones' Tearoom at Julius' is a pretty wild idea. Some of the patrons may be in the film!

I don't doubt "normativity" means different things to different places, but I'm mostly speculating based on the context BLaB is covering/railing against.
― the new dire homonormativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)
Which, since it's Vice, maybe I'm wrong.
i tend to interpret the NDH as like "let's do our best to look acceptable for the GLAAD/HRC crowd" kind of stuff

*pre-emptively nails down lid on can of worms*
xxxxxxp
yeah, if that's the new homo-normativity, then i might not even be gay anymore. because compared to those folks, i look so buttoned up and bland it's not even funny. ah well.
it was nice being queer while it lasted. hard to keep up with the constantly-shifting goalposts of what is sufficiently outside-society's-approval.

guys, it hurts my fingers and brain trying to spell "normativity"

I think he's pinpointing post-clubgoing people who want to get married, shop out of catalogs, die in Obamney's next war, and say "SEE, we are JUST like you are."

I bought a raincoat from an LL Bean catalog two years ago.

No one wants to die in the next war. They want to kill in the next war. Duh.

normativity is probably the most annoying word in the english language
add homo and you're really fucked
― surm, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)
They will want to kill because they will have gotten married.
― the new dire homonormativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)
I was not pigeonholing catalogs/marriage as inherently bad. Esp if we bring back mail-order husbands.
― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)
Read that as "no more boobs ativity"
I wish!
And I just unbookmarked Posts Very Much In Character today again.
― the new dire homonormativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)

Let's just say I'm proud of y'all for making the summer gay thread livelier in two days than the spring thread in two months.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:45 (thirteen years ago)
Was going to say something about how we doubled the post count of this 3-week-old thread in one day, but didn't want to jinx it.
― the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:46 (thirteen years ago)
You asshole.
and you didn't want to marry me
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:46 (thirteen years ago)
Historically, though, I'm only ever gay in the summer.
hahaha i'm honored tabes
― surm, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)
BLaB's accusation of homo-normativity should be taken with a wink and a smile, tho. See his other "Wondering" where he claims to hate, uh, everybody, basically, unless you're James Franco in drag.
― is capybara gay? (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 19:04 (thirteen years ago)
perhaps this is why BLaB is a hero of mine.
― Sophomore subs are the new Smith lesbians. (the table is the table), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 19:06 (thirteen years ago)
Any sort of skepticism toward homogenous subgenres of gay culture is some "hell is other people" bullshit that I haven't felt in ten years, see also accusations of hipsterdom. But in BLaB's case it is cool to tell people to lighten up and watch some gay zombie porn
― is capybara gay? (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)
Can I start BLaBonormative?
― the new dire homonomoreboobsativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)
BLaB's no hero to me but I like his writing and three of his films and I like that we live in the same city and can chat sometimes

I wanna change normativity to normalness
― is capybara gay? (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 19:12 (thirteen years ago)
homonormalness just rolllls off the tongue
well, hell is other people, I thought we were all agreed on that.

Actually, no, both Splendor and Smiley Face are definitely worse than Otto.
no way, i mean i take it for granted that people hate on most of araki's stuff but smiley face was pretty good, hilarious tho and a completely different mood than otto which was zzzzzzzz but i think i sat through the director's cut screening as part of the committee for the dc glbt film festival.
kaboom seemed like a rehash of the stylistic themes from nowhere made for the newer generation.
thought i loved gael morel a lot more than i do - it turns out i've just seen full speed + le clan and was accidentally attributing a lot of francois ozon's work to him, like time to leave.

What is consensus on this guy? All I know is everybody love love loved Mysterious Skin and I did not not not care for it at all
― OPÓ (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:17 (thirteen years ago)
mysterious skin was his one "mature" film, the others are kind of... not so
― fauxmarc, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)
(also the only one he didn't write, or at least he didn't write the source material)
― fauxmarc, Wednesday, 11 July 2012 22:28 (thirteen years ago)
Also the one reasonably good movie of his I've ever seen. But I have so far skipped most of the meat of his '90s stuff.
