well sometimes the "X" really isn't designed to hurt anybody and almost all these posters who are dialing up the outrage meter are not part of that minority anyway, so it just devolves into self-congratulatory "you are so stupid and a horrible person" for 1000 posts

Considering that I saw Louis C.K. do a minutes-long bit about someone's mother being raped by every single person in the city of Boston a couple of years ago, I'm not at all surprised he stood up for Tosh (without explicitly defending his behavior).

yeah this is v skewed. check the tracy morgan thing, or his long defence of free speech wrt opie & anthony. there was some discussion on the louie thread a while ago of the weird permeable line that separates or doesn't separate him from others - like a guy who at surface level has called sarah palin a cunt, has made the rape jokes referenced, & yet who some people are inclined to think better of - & it's interesting to think about that wrt the heckler ep of Louie, but the daniel tosh thing is v straightforward.

Louie seems to at least learn from his mistakes though, and I'm not sure that tweet really counts as a "defense"

no, but it's a rebuttal to any degree of hysteria, & isn't in any sense, is the exact opposite of, 'tongue in cheek'

i have no idea whether louie actually likes or dislikes tosh. but it seems like comedians in general, especially guys like louie, just believe in no taboos in comedy, and also resent when things said in a club get taped/quoted out of context on the internet

paul f. tompkins and todd glass had a really good discussion of boundaries/taboos in comedy on the todd glass show if that sounds interesting to anyone other than me
