Oh, if it smells like sushi, forget it. I'm holding out for a nice piece of flounder.
I am surprised BLaB has never staged a sex scene to "Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?" Or has he?

btw the Leather Archives & Museum in Chicago has one section devoted to the growth of the Bear movement out of the S&M/Leather scene, and the title on the wall is "From Sir to Grrrr."
They also have a nice library I could've browsed for hours.

I pretty much prefer Araki to BLaB, even tho Gregg had a rather uninspired run in the mid to late '90s.
― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 15:23 (thirteen years ago)
speaking of queer filmmakers, Morbs, do you like Gael Morel's work? He's the cutie gay protag of Techiné's Wild Reeds; now a writer-director. I watched Full Speed last night, starring Stéphane Rideau (yum) and Elodie Bbouchez: a muddled take on WR material.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)
Most of the Araki movies I've seen are "better" than every BLaB, but I much prefer the splatter-paint politicking in the latter's.
― the new dire homonormativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 15:26 (thirteen years ago)
i haven't seen 'the living end' but the only araki i've seen and liked is 'mysterious skin'

Actually, no, both Splendor and Smiley Face are definitely worse than Otto.
― the new dire homonormativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 15:30 (thirteen years ago)
I would agree that the only Araki film (that I've seen) as good as The Raspberry Reich in the last 15+ years is Mysterious Skin.
I'm sure the only Morel-directed film I've seen is The Clan aka 3 Dancing Slaves, which is just OK. This Deneuve vehicle looks intriguing, especially since I thought NYC arthouses released everything she's in, but apparently not!

What's the best REAL (forlacknof a better word) Araki film to watch to see if I like him? Love love love MYSTERIOUS SKIN but I always figured it was anomalous (based on a book, seems more grounded/plot-centric than his 90s stuff). Have KABOOM high up in my rental queue right now.
Never seen any LaBruce, but I edited a piece on hum for PopMatters last year and it all sounds pretty yucky.
Also, hey Owen!

― Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)
I hear Kaboom! is really embarrassing but have not seen. Didn't he make a movie based on Mark Beyer's "Amy & Jordan" strips?
― alan is more upset (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)
a friend once said of araki that "his films resist any kind of bourgeois closure" which i feel like is just a nice way to say "he doesn't really know how to write a screenplay"?
― radical ferry (donna rouge), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 16:18 (thirteen years ago)
never heard that and don't know the Beyer comic, but apparently ppl see connections in The Doom Generation (which I loathed):
