HOLY SHIT SURM OMG OMG find it. Watch it. I would be srsly stunned if it didn't wind up in your all time top 10.
Like, just the way Bette Midler walks in that movie would be enough to make you squeal.

And her outfit! She looks like a giant orange triangle with legs and hair the size of Texas.

I've never seen that, but would love a tape loop of surm squealing at it.

If you haven't seen she, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton plunging dozens of stories to their near-death in a window-washers' scaffolding, it's your loss.

People coming out at such young ages amazes me. It took me until I was about 20 to admit to myself that I wasn't completely straight, let alone to anyone else, which still took a couple years after that.

I mean, since sex isn't part of the equation, I can only presume I've cultivated a gay identity in an effort to cultivate something, anything interesting within my white bread self, right?

*in a neat portent
I can only hope the Guide was being ironic in the latter instance, or when it declared, "The majority of gays have incredibly bad taste." ... in general, I think it’s probably more to the point that everyone has bad taste these days, with a few notable exceptions.
sure everyone has bad taste but in my neck of the woods at least, the majority of gays definitely have worse taste. it's like bad taste being funnelled/focused through the smaller population's feedback loop of trending

The New Dire Heteronormativity: GAY Winter 2012
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 14:02 (thirteen years ago)
Almost all of it is very OTM, but then ...
It’s a typically ageist, sophomoric attitude that suggests gays are only interested in sex with a simulacrum of themselves, that their gay elders couldn’t possibly have anything to offer in the way of experience, wisdom, or perspective, and that intergenerational sex is something akin to certain styles of torture. Hopefully my upcoming film Gerontophilia will help to dispel this tiresome partisanship.
Hopefully it does, BLaB, because pretty much every movie of yours I've seen up until this point (and regardless of level of quality otherwise) has pretty much reinforced the hotness as "not old, not fat, not particularly femme" archetype.
― the new dire homonormativity (Eric H.), Wednesday, 11 July 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)
well, he's getting older.
(I hesitate to call it a movement anymore, considering how deeply entrenched it now seems to be in its assimilationist agenda)
Yeah, but it's been this way for 40 years, national politics and the passing of generations has just given it a political sheen, and the assimilation is now with the Boring Str8s rather than the Big Gay Ken Dolls. Or as Harvey Milk's friend said to him of mid '70s SF leathermen, "If they want to be liberate themselves, why do they all look alike?"
