do u remember "MCI"

I remember Metropolitan Coal Industries, if that's what you mean. In those days coal mines were right in the middle of cities. Streets seethed with black faces (at least there could be no racial discrimination; there's a silver lining to every cloud). We all had painful hacking coughs that never went away, no matter how much Doctor Weerenger's Patent Throat-Cleansing and Brass-Cleaning Fluid we took. The fogs weren't pea soup, they were black coffee, tar and Quink. You'd stagger out of bed at 4am, open the door, and the black fog would quickly envelop the whole house. Invisible trains clattered around hellish embankments, and above it all, glinting in the dagger-stab glimmer of a resentful moon, were the mine-heads: pits straight to hell.

Now you're all hairdressers and receptionists. Not that I've got anything against that. No, you marched for your rights to cut hair and answer the telephone. Good luck to you, I say.

for some people it really sets the mood, though

some dude, Monday, 9 July 2012 17:12 (thirteen years ago)

imo grampsy's ultra-literary style doesn't mix well with the crackerbarrel elements. more awkward than grin-inducing for me. otoh, if he could edit himself better and develop his timing, i see a kernal of hope.

and there is the thought that i might be a bit more sour on him because his comic persona rests on a young person's lack of sympathy for the old.

I am pretty sure my inner goddess is going to get a leg cramp from this ceaseless meringue but that doesn't stop him.

He pulls my hips back and flips over my legs, twisting them 180 degrees. Then, he pulls back my head and folds my arms over my face. A sharp jolt snaps my hips into my shoulders and the transformation is complete. I am now a Volkswagen Beetle.

if you read about classical music performances from 19th and 18th century they were filled with yelling and screaming and people throwing things at the orchestra if they didn't like the performance. was not at all like it is today.

― scott seward, Wednesday, July 11, 2012 10:00 AM (17 minutes ago)

same with theatre crowds back then too.

what this means is that 200 years from now, performers will wear tuxedos and present solemn highbrow performances of "I Like To Move It"

DJP's "I Like to Move It" comment had me looking for 'classical recital i like to move it' on YouTube and instead I found all this, having switched to 'dance recital':
