Ha!
Love his kids, btw.

Gotta love how Lendl still has no damn expression on his face whatsoever.
― Roz, Sunday, 8 July 2012 17:30 (thirteen years ago)
I sensed a little sorrow from Lendl
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 8 July 2012 17:30 (thirteen years ago)
Poor Andy :(
Why were people surprised at him showing emotion? Helloooooo, AO 2010 final? This has happened before.

hello
― mookieproof, Sunday, 8 July 2012 17:36 (thirteen years ago)
Someone pointed out that all of the Big Three got to face someone not in their league to win their first Slams - Philippoussis, Puerta, Tsonga - whereas Murray has had to face Federer or Djokovic in all of his finals so far...
― bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 17:36 (thirteen years ago)
and two of them had to go through Federer in their semis to get there. I dunno, it's not really their fault the draw opened up for them that way, just like it's not Murray's fault he happens to be playing in a time with three bona fide GOAT contenders. (and lest anyone forget, Del Potro broke through against Fed despite a 0-6 losing record against him. And beat Nadal in the semis.)
― Roz, Sunday, 8 July 2012 17:51 (thirteen years ago)
all you guys who are like "as soon as the roof came on it was all over" don't forget that Fed had already turned it up about eight notches, to the point where the BBC commentators were like "Andy could sure use a break right now" and "surely this is the last point before they stop play - COME ON, COME ON" as if even just a respite from play would somehow turn the momentum around for their boy

yep - murray's a pretty great player and would probably have 3 or 4 grand slams by now if he hadn't happened to play during the primes of 3 of the best players ever. he's obviously not on their level, but he's probably a cut above anyone else from the last 5 years
― k3vin k., Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)
After that first set, I wouldn't say it's obvious Murray isn't on their level
or maybe more accurately, Murray seems to be doing a slower version of Djokovic's re-invention (obv I don't expect Murray to suddenly become overwhelmingly dominant for a year but after today, I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to win the USO)
― I see you, Pineapple Teef (DJP), Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)
Djokovic fixed serious problems with his game though, what is there for Murray to fix?
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:40 (thirteen years ago)
Djokovic was number 3 in the world and winning a bunch of tournaments with a totally haywire serve
I think Murray will win a slam or two but I think he's just not on the big three's level when they're playing well.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)
Non-tennis expert here: am I right in thinking that Henman got to the final of the US Open once near the end of his career?
― Özil Gummidge (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:46 (thirteen years ago)
No, semis in 2004.
― Michael Jones, Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:46 (thirteen years ago)
You might be thinking of Rusedski, who was US Open runner-up to Rafter in '97.
― Michael Jones, Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:47 (thirteen years ago)
Henman never got beyond the last 16 of any non-Wimbledon Slam *until* he had his runs to the semis at Roland Garros and Flushing Meadow in 2004. A last hurrah for him - he was ranked #4 around that time. Very quickly fell off the map after that.
― Michael Jones, Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:48 (thirteen years ago)
Yup, that's what I was thinking of (not Rusedski)

well federer's 30
― k3vin k., Sunday, 8 July 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)
i am pleased i didn't have to see cameron's cunt face joining in on the celebrations, so hooraaay. and after murray's performance it does feel like a grand slam win at some point is inevitable, barring injury, may it (a first, at least) be somewhere other than wimbledon.
word on the stweet (welp there's the worst phrase i'm ever going to type) is that venus williams was at the flying lotus bloc-refugee party at xoyo last night. after winning the doubles at almost 11pm! if true i have so much respect for that dedication to partying.

― manticore values (nakhchivan), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)
i still think there's a reasonable chance murray doesn't win a gs, he probably has five years before injury / fatigue / possible emerging youngsters make it unfeasible, and through all that time he will have djokovic, nadal for most of it, federer probably has a couple of years
i hope he does though, he is a proper tennis player, not some serve and volley troglodyte or bulldog spirit chancer, and yes preferably it happens abroad
― manticore values (nakhchivan), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:11 (thirteen years ago)
Have rarely seen a player as transformed by doubles as Vesnina - she's an indistinguished choker in singles, in doubles she's so mentally clutch and possesses unbelievable reflexes. She and Paes just broke Mike Bryan as he was serving for the match, saving a MP along the way...
― bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)
lol @ this
bryan/raymond totally choking. had 6-3 5-3 lead and a championship point on bryan's serve. now 5-6 behind, spraying volleys and leaving balls that land meters inside the baseline
― uberweiss, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:16 (thirteen years ago)
xp lol yeah
incidentally on the topic of seasonal tennis fans, my mum had been enthusiastically supporting murray these last few days even though she has never heard of roger federer.
― Merdeyeux, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:16 (thirteen years ago)
my mum cried when andy lost...
― uberweiss, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)
If Vesnina loses this she falls to 0-6 in Slam finals. GET DAT SLAM ELENA

the first name i don't recognise is andreas seppi (26)
― manticore values (nakhchivan), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:19 (thirteen years ago)
When Murray started crying I rolled my eyes but really felt for him within seconds, it wasn't like the AO final where I just felt awkward for him losing his dignity.
YES KAMAN brilliant Vesnina return/Paes volley to take the set
― bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:19 (thirteen years ago)
To be fair to tennis dilettantes Seppi is completely blah gamewise and everything, how he took Nole to 5 sets at RG is an eternal mystery of our times
― bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)
i don't like any of the 4 players on court but it's very enjoyable! hoping for some more chokes in the 3rd
― uberweiss, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)
Highest ranked players I've never seen play for even a point - Albert Ramos (43), Alexandra Panova (74)
― bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)
i saw ramos live vs federer just 2 weeks ago! he sucked lol. he's number FORTY THREE IN THE WORLD?
i don't think i've seen berlocq (37) play
wta i don't think i've seen begu (64)
― uberweiss, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)
Oh no wait Vesnina just remembered who she is.
― bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)
I'm struggling with some of the South Americans - Andujar? Giraldo? Get into the 70s and 80s and the HUH?s come thick and fast: there are Aussies called Ebden and Matosevic? And I'd never heard of Lukas Rosol. Whereas I knew Peter Doohan pre-June 1987. So I must've paid more attention then (poring over the ranking lists in the back of Tennis World mag).
― Michael Jones, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)
andujar i remember from a very wta-esque horroshow at the french last year vs nadal
― uberweiss, Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
I saw Berlocq a few years ago, terrible clay grinder with terrible grunt. That was the year he double bagelled Young and then immediately got double bagelled by Blake. He's doing much better this year for some reason.
Saw Begu when she first had her breakthrough run to the Marbella final last year (beating Sweta, lulz). She's pretty decent but has been sucking this year.
Ramos in the top 50 is such a joke, also how is Go Soeda so close to the top 50?
― bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
Giraldo is a pretty fun basher! Really uncompromising.
Don't think I've seen Matosevic but I know he has a reputation for gamesmanship. Lots of the ATP players around there I know from seeing their results but don't know much about. With the WTA it goes down further.
