So Serena served more aces in this event than Sampras did in winning his first Slam at USO '90 (100 in 7 best-of-fives - there was a big fuss at the time about that).

Oh no, an awful person wins the mixed doubles either way. Who is a worse human being out of Paes and Huber?

I guess I'll support Paes/Vesnina since Vesnina is the only player on court I like.

I admit to liking this shot since it seems she's going 'eh, another championship, what are you going to do?'

lindstedt in the doubles final is a bigger cunt than both of them put together

uberweiss, Saturday, 7 July 2012 17:27 (thirteen years ago)

Yay Vesnina won. Brad Gilbert says that last night she went into the ESPN studio to have him sign a Russian copy of his Winning Ugly book, and it was all highlighted and footnoted. You could make many sarky comments but bless her <3 <3 <3

It wasn't the final, that's against Lisa R and the other Bryan. Always a joy to see Huber lose though!

What did Lindstedt do?

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 17:37 (thirteen years ago)

my friend's a professional racket stringer and said he's horrible to everyone etc etc

and it shows in this match. grumpy demeanour and really rude to ballboys

uberweiss, Saturday, 7 July 2012 17:52 (thirteen years ago)

marray admits he hit the net during a point even though neither the opponents nor the umpire saw it! nice to see sportsmanship like that. except now it's 4-0 in the TB to 4-3...

uberweiss, Saturday, 7 July 2012 18:07 (thirteen years ago)

Pretty great sportsmanship from Marray there.

*looks meaningfully at Liezel*

xp

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 18:08 (thirteen years ago)

Yesss they get the set despite the sportsmanship!

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

Nielsen is quite good-looking, is he not.

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)

RT @Sammyb01 huber could be caught up like a fish in the net and she'd still claim she hadn't touched it

:D :D :D

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

Oh no, rain delay. Hopefully doesn't disrupt M/N's momentum

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

This final is a bit of a nail-biter. That 4th set TB was pure OUCH but Marray/Nielsen are 4-1 up in the 5th...

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah TB ws p/good so its slightly disappointing how one-sided the last set is shaping up at the moment.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:00 (thirteen years ago)

Oh I'm fine with one-sided. I have discovered that I am rather emotionally invested in a Marray/Nielsen win :/

Impressed with how they've put that TB behind them...they were so, so close there.

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:03 (thirteen years ago)

Absolutely BEAST volleying in that game from both Marray and Nielsen

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)

What a hold there for 5-2! xp

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:04 (thirteen years ago)

Its kinda bizarre the guy is called Marray - bet commentators have repeatedly called him Murray at times.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

Right. Serving for the title. *psychologically girds self*

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

Not so good volleying from Marray there..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

btr now!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

what an amazing pick-up

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

More awesome-ness in the volley for C'P

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

Yesss!

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

Done!! With a Marray volley

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

Love a wild card win!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:11 (thirteen years ago)

That was a Nielsen volley! Marray was serving. Appropriately.

Lindstwadt storming off kmt, imagine what the RG crowd would have done to him

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)

very pleasing

kid steel (cajunsunday), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)

That was fucking great! Marray hitting second serves that I'm not sure anyone has matched all fortnight.

Lindstedt, what an arse. So you lost three finals. I bet Fred Stolle didn't do that.

Michael Jones, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

Oops yes - Nielsen volley, seeing things for tom probably. I shd stop that.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

These guys must be buzzing. I've had some Pimms and several jalapeno peppers, but I'm probably nowhere the level these guys are at right now.

Michael Jones, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

ha I didn't know Nielsen was the first Dane to win a Slam since his grandfather! Truly destiny's team.

(NIELSEN 1 WOZNIACKI 0)

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

Ha the women's doubles final still to go. I'm going to the pub.

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

lol that was bizarre

kid steel (cajunsunday), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

er ok at that Agassi bit on Andy Murray.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

thank god! hollow crown is on!

kid steel (cajunsunday), Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

"Do you think Andy will sleep well tonight?" Are you gonna check on him John.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 7 July 2012 20:31 (thirteen years ago)

most rewarding day for me as a tennis fan since at least aussie open 2010 :)

uberweiss, Saturday, 7 July 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

very glad Venus got her Last Hurrah in doubles at least!

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 09:01 (thirteen years ago)

I genuinely don't understand people who only start caring about tennis when there's GBR involvement. (The British mindset generally I guess.) Like...when they watch Murray matches are they enjoying themselves? Are they enjoying the sport? If so then why would they not want to watch more of it? If not why are they watching at all? It would be like me suddenly watching football in the World Cup final. Uh, no, because I dislike the sport, and if I liked it I'd watch it all the time.

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 July 2012 10:51 (thirteen years ago)

but people who don't watch football the rest of the time do watch the World Cup final. It's not that they dislike the sport, it's just they require an added incentive to watch it. They probably don't even think about it the rest of the time

Number None, Sunday, 8 July 2012 10:56 (thirteen years ago)

Also when rooting for or against a player in a given match nationality is so far down the list of things that I don't think I ever really get to it as a determining factor. Actually I guess I may root for someone if the crowd are v v much on his opponents side ie non American vs an American at the US Open I guess.

pandemic, Sunday, 8 July 2012 10:58 (thirteen years ago)

Lex OTM. Having said that I only really follow the NBA when it comes round to the play-offs so I guess I'm similarly at fault. When it comes to tennis whilst nowhere in the Lex Lge I do at least manage to watch tournaments other than Grand Slams.

pandemic, Sunday, 8 July 2012 11:00 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think there's anything wrong with sports "tourism" really. I'm strictly a slam watcher and i'll watch e.g. the Super Bowl when i don't watch any other NFL. There simply isn't enough time in the day to follow that many sports in that much detail. The key thing is not to mouth off about sports that you're not that familiar with

Number None, Sunday, 8 July 2012 11:06 (thirteen years ago)

Sport is about feelings of connection, however vague or silly.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Sunday, 8 July 2012 11:10 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i am the same for tennis right now xp, tho i used to follow it more closely

as for people who only watch when their nation is involved....it's curiosity as much as anything, but although the england football or cricket teams might in some way be representative of the sports as played in this country, andy murray is not in any obvious way a 'british tennis player' in the way that idk roddick seems like a particular kind of 'american tennis player', so the thread of nationality is completely tenuous

libor pains (nakhchivan), Sunday, 8 July 2012 11:16 (thirteen years ago)

there's kind of a rote feeling about much of the Murray support though. They'll never love him like Henman
