I think losing her treasured 1R Slam record was a bit of a wake-up call - think she realised what it was she had to work on, and has accordingly done that. Zheng and Golden Shvedova were the big tests (of her calmness) and she passed.

I was just thinking about which player has most reason to be bitter at Serena and, family affection aside, it's Venus isn't it. Without Serena, Venus probably has the Career Slam, maybe even a non-calendar Slam 2002-03. And it was Serena beating her over and over again that paved the way for the rest of the tour to start doing it. I guess the only other contender is Sharapova. (Capriati - was a great match-up for Serena but it's not like Serena snatched Slams from her; Justine - benefited from Serena if anything, their rivalry elevated them both; Hingis - it was more Venus and Davenport who killed her; Dementieva - was going to constantly suck and choke against whomever anyway.)

it's kind of funny, thinking back to how everyone reacted so negatively to Richard Williams and the way he talked about his daughters at the beginning, but in retrospect almost everything he said about both of them was true (thinking specifically back to "Venus will dominate everyone, and Serena is even better than Venus" comments)

All that aside, she was tested - her movement has been lacking from the little I've seen but the serve and composure have been top class - love how she can literally walk to a slam title.

Murray vs Tsonga. Tsonga has a great shot at the upset but I don't trust him not to be stupid. Wonder whether his RG heartbreak has motivated him even more, he must know he'd have a great shot in the final too - he very nearly beat Nole on clay, and grass suits him much more. And obv he beat Fed last year. Really pulling for him to win it all though.

Djokovic vs Federer. They have...never played on grass! I guess one has to give Fed more of a shot because of that. But maybe not enough. I don't really know who I'm supporting, probably Nole.
