We are constantly suppressing the irresistible urge to shoot each other, and only by shooting at people-shaped targets can we satisfy that urge in non-murderous ways?

Also betrays a total disinterest in day-to-day gun violence (ie what the gun-free zones are interested in), which is widespread and lends itself to being understood structurally, in favor of isolated episodes of media interest, which lend themselves to being understood anecdotally, getting inside the killer's twisted mind, etc. etc.
