Bound for Glory is great. Hal Ashby. Really beautiful. Slow maybe, long. It's been a while but I remember loving it.

Looking over the July schedule...Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark is coming up on the 20th. That sounded interesting when it was mentioned on the horror poll. (Can't remember if it placed in the top 100)

Classic but also kinda dated. Campy in good and bad ways. Like not extreme camp, just a bit of 80sness

i need to see drums along the mohawk. there's a bunch of old ilx threads where a 20-year-old me whines embarrassingly about how john ford isn't that great. i wish there were a way to edit old posts.

Not intentionally campy...but certain scenes that I think were meant to be "atmospheric" now read as "dated", which I find campy I guess.

i see. that might be true, but they are dated in a nice way... much like michael mann's 80s work or something similar.

Blogs/forums are saying TCM HD coming July 19

so how would that work for most of what they have? remastered content?

It's not generally "HD" in the sense that an HBO HD would show the remastered versions of films. they aren't as clear and crisp in general, though I watched a bit of Dr. Strangelove on it today and that's about as good as I've ever seen it (haven't seen the Blu-Ray, but better than DVD I reckon). The picture is cleaner than SD, especially if you have a larger TV, but the crucial point for me is proper, anamorphic aspect ratios.

of course it also takes up a lot more DVR space, a fact that Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice has been reminding me of for months now.

I think they do. HD signal is the same amount of data being transmitted/recorded as any other HD, regardless of the quality of the HD, no? Like the size each minute takes up is dependent on the type of channel (HD or SD) rather than the specific program?

Also I've got Diary and Au Revoir on mine as well.

Diary is my favourite Bresson btw, and I suggest you watch it ASAP if you haven't before. I'm just holding onto it for a rewatch.
