So I am about to get my shit together and bike into work and it is 76 out at 5:30am. Tonight is the monthly Cleveland Critical Mass ride, for which it's expected to be 90+. Ugh.

Julie Derpy (Phil D.), Friday, 29 June 2012 09:29 (fourteen years ago)

Supposed to be 105 today here in Atlanta today. Surprisingly dry though. Good times.

My air conditioner broke. I have central air. No way do I have money to fix it.

Fortunately dad left behind two heavy duty fans plus one room air conditioner. It's an old house with a lot of windows and a basement and tree shade, so it's not too bad.

A full night's sleep is a bitch, though. The dogs have a wading pool in the backyard, I don't want them to get overheated.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 29 June 2012 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

It may be 105 right now, but it's only 22% humidity, so it feels no warmer than 65 or 70. I wish i had brought my coat.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Friday, 29 June 2012 20:46 (fourteen years ago)

Are you in Atlanta, Washington or something, if that is a place?

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 29 June 2012 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

Julie Derpy (Phil D.), Friday, 29 June 2012 21:42 (fourteen years ago)

Eh, its gonna be like 115 for the next three months here in AZ, complaining about it only makes it worse for me.

It was a couple of degrees cooler today. I left the house three times and lived.

Biff Wellington (WmC), Sunday, 1 July 2012 03:53 (fourteen years ago)

Starting Monday the company and union decided to change our working hours to 6 until 4 because too many employees were having or near having heat strokes. Also I used a temperature gun to measure the heat of the ground at 4:30 and it was 165 F!

JacobSanders, Sunday, 1 July 2012 04:39 (fourteen years ago)

Big morning rainstorms in Houston yesterday, got down to the upper '70s and was no worse than low '80s until the sun came out late afternoon. Thought I was dreamin' for a second there.

A storm in the Washington DC area has caused the worst power outage of my entire life, affecting 1.5 million homes and businesses. My home hasn't had power for over two days now, and they aren't expecting to restore power in some areas for another five days. This with temps over 100F.

Lee626, Sunday, 1 July 2012 07:59 (fourteen years ago)

Good luck, Lee and Jacob and everybody.

Biff Wellington (WmC), Sunday, 1 July 2012 13:36 (fourteen years ago)

Oh no, Lee. That's pretty terrible.

Chicago is at 79° at 9:00 am which is pretty gross. Walked about a mile home last night and I was soggy and sticky. I barely ever sweat at all, I just get clammy, like I have drying salt water on my skin.

Je55e, Sunday, 1 July 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

felt so toxic walking to work yesterday. i only walk about 6 or 7 blocks and when i got to the store i felt like i'd been beat up. i have NO idea how people work outside all day in that. i mean there is sun and there is sun. this was the kinda x-ray sun that felt like it was zapping my insides.

scott seward, Sunday, 1 July 2012 14:54 (fourteen years ago)

i've often thought that this is what it feels like to get cooked, like really cooked from the outside in.

Iago Galdston, Sunday, 1 July 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)

Feted friends' engagement (one of whom is an ILXor) today which was at a bar patio. It was in the low 90s and humid and I melted into a pitiful, complaining blob. It would have been more manageable if I'd showered this morning, but I was running extremely behind, so I just washed my face and slapped on deod/antiperspirant. Wearing clothes in the heat without having showered is disgusting.

Je55e, Monday, 2 July 2012 05:56 (thirteen years ago)

Played golf yesterday in 104 degree heat, which in a lifetime of having done some pretty stupid things, was pretty high on the list. Almost puked on the 18th green.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Monday, 2 July 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)

Experimenting with running my portable dehumidifier upstairs vs. three window units.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 2 July 2012 15:56 (thirteen years ago)

Jeff Goldblum is watching you, pope! (snoball), Monday, 2 July 2012 17:30 (thirteen years ago)

Dehumidifier fail. Took the moisture out but left it hotter than before, a Devil's bargain. So back to A/C it is.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 2 July 2012 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

That's the tragedy of dehumidifiers. I bought one when I lived in a garden apartment that was cool enough in the summer to tolerate, but was so damp that mold formed in the closet and under the sink. It sucked b/c it ran non-stop and made it hot enough to make A/C necessary.

Je55e, Monday, 2 July 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

You know what? I'm gonna stop fronting.

I bought one when I lived in a garden apartment fucking filthy, leaky, dark basement under a bunch of DMB loving college bros.

Je55e, Monday, 2 July 2012 20:55 (thirteen years ago)

Power restored in my home after being for two days. Still 200,000 in the DC area without power though.

Gonna look into portable generators - just want one powerful enough to run a single window A/C, a fridge, and some low-wattage stuff like an internet router and a few LED light bulbs.

Dehumidifiers dry the air, but leave it somewhat warmer than before. Good for cool but damp places like some basements, but not a substitute for air conditioning.

Lee626, Tuesday, 3 July 2012 03:18 (thirteen years ago)

99 degrees, time to hit the attic to start sorting through boxes and move everything out!

Cleveland finally getting some damned rain and it's a doozy of a storm. But it's supposed to be 92 by 5pm.
