No Kobayashi Maru, no cred.

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 18:47 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...

Nimoy's in it. One of the Heroes cast is going to be young Spock.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 July 2007 03:27 (eighteen years ago)

There better be a Gorn up in this motherfucker.

Sparkle Motion, Friday, 27 July 2007 05:33 (eighteen years ago)

and what, Friday, 27 July 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

this should be cool, it's nice to see them send nimoy off into retirement. i'd be surprised if they fuck this film up, since star trek's cultural capital is about as low as it can be right now.

akm, Friday, 27 July 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

(although admittedly you could say they've sent spock off into retirement twice before)

Turns out that movie trailer is just a holodeck experience.

SPOCK'S BRAIN: THE MOTION PICTURE

ghost rider, Friday, 27 July 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

also, considering the age of Quinto , this would def. seem to put the academy ideas out of scope, he's too old. I guess he still looks younger than nimoy did around the first season though. who knows? it would make more sense to set this before the first film but after the series.

now I feel like a 12 year old again!

i dunno, i think the true nadir was when Star Trek: Nemesis came out

latebloomer, Friday, 27 July 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

that evil spock's beard episode originally aired on the exact day i was born.

"They want him to zoom through that black hole as the dude in the black hat."

otoh I have no idea wtf this means

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

"Trek Begins" is a genuinely stupid, terrible idea. It's possible there are good ideas left in Trek (I've never bothered with the end of Voyager or Enterprise, and definitely never bothered with the books) but I really doubt it.

When DS9 ended I thought maybe a series about non-Star Fleet Federation types (probably diplomats) running around trying to stop the aftermath of the Dominion war from descending into chaos would be a good idea, but I'm not so sure of that anymore. Anyway, no one but total jerkbag obsessives (raises hand) cared about DS9.

Oilyrags, Monday, 17 September 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

it is kinda weird how they deliberately keep trying to go backwards (what with Enterprise and now this). Seems kinda antithetical to Roddenberry's method. I don't think there's any question that, much as I hate Rick Berman, Next Generation was the most succesful of the extensions of the franchise.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

TNG is my favorite, even better than the original. I don't get why people are so up on Chuck Norris when superdick Lt. Riker once crescent kicked a guy who fell backward onto a glass or possibly synthglass table and shattered it, Riker all stoic and hatable.

Abbott, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

"superdick" lolz

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

Ep. with the second Riker = so +++ classic bcz Riker's couchehat is cocked at maximum angle. Riker having to interact with his hideous self, and practicing hilarious Klingon tai-chi with Troi that gets 'steamy' in a complete cockdrooping/vagdrying way, and Jordi and Data kind of standing around on some vine planet with question marks over their heads.

Abbott, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

HAHA THAT IS THAT EPISODE

Abbott, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

couchehat = douchehat

Abbott, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

"Deeana remember alternate me who is me right now and how we erotically molded a ceramic pot that one time? THAT's ME, I AM YR RIKER, AND YOU ARE MY LEATHER CHAPS WEARING RIKER BABE. Replicator: One Syntha Colada, please.

Abbott, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

Ryker seems like a total (captain's emergency escape) yacht rock dude of 2398 or whenever it was.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

Patton Oswalt was OTM when he explained that the Star Wars prequels sucked because NO ONE CARES WHAT VADER WAS LIKE AS A KID. This will hold true in Star Trek. Why can't they just make another one where Kirk is chopping wood and then Picard shows up and they FIGHT.

jessie monster, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

that movie was terrible

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

That's certainly true. I don't think there's been a half decent star trek movie since the one with Christopher Plummer wearing a riveted-on eyepatch.

Oilyrags, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)

What, not even First Contact?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

I guess that was about half decent.

Oilyrags, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah I agree with oilyrags - First Contact is mostly okay and then you get that guy from Babe shouting along to Steppenwolf = ugh

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)

also the totally unnecessary inclusion of Alfre Woodard

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)

Worf showing up for no reason, then expressing penis envy.

Oilyrags, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

I just think its kinda lame and market-driven to make another prequel. The best sci-fi tricks you into looking at the present by projecting a new vision of the future - endlessly rehashing the same old version of the future is sorta counterintuitive.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

Does counterintuitive mean boring?

Oilyrags, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

sure

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm,

Cardassia:Founders::Iraq:Bush administration...?

Maybe there is some juice in that old idea I mentioned upthread.

Oilyrags, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

But then BG would be all like 'been there, done that.'

Oilyrags, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

Enterprise is all about Bakula's Bush-in-Space impression.

It is also terrible.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

(i.e. he does everything with a squinty resolve and good-ol-boy gumption)

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 17 September 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

All tribbles, all the time. I'll accept nothing less.

Tub Girl Time Machine (Phil D.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:45 (fifteen years ago)

x-post

word is that it's gonna be tribbles and the klingons teaming up

Well clearly the demand is there for tribble villains. listening Abrams?

a cuter kind of annoying (latebloomer), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:49 (fifteen years ago)

you realize we're now going to get a Clovertribble, right

BO (DJP), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

But don't tribbles hate Klingons? That's how Kirk ID's the Klingon spy.

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

xp I'm comfortable with that.

Tub Girl Time Machine (Phil D.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

what if there are evil tribbles that feed on anger huh what about that

"Information by surprise" is even legal in Sweden (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

also, this is the new alternate timeline! maybe the klingons and tribbles have come to an understanding

a cuter kind of annoying (latebloomer), Thursday, 9 December 2010 17:52 (fifteen years ago)

The stage is already set - Scotty had a tribble on his desk in this movie:
