Yeah I initially thought $45 was pretty steep for a comedy show before finding out that's actually really low-end for a guy who's reaching Dave Chapelle-like levels of popularity

holy fuck. he sold out every new york show! I was waiting till the evening to balance my schedule. My bad i guess.
i think it's likely he'll add a new york show though; i need to keep an eye out there.
his twitter right now is awesome, he's just answering everyone.

ok, i'm not gonna wait till he plays philly. i bought two for the early oct 22 show

Mordy, Thursday, 28 June 2012 03:41 (fourteen years ago)

btw, I thought the biggest reason that Pearl Jam and Radiohead and whomever were not able to circumvent Ticketmaster or promotors like Clear Channel was because both had deals with venues and they could lock out bands. So how did Louis CK get around that?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:19 (fourteen years ago)

Like, is he going all church basement and VFW hall indie (or equivalent)?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

playing @ venues w/o exclusive deals is my understanding yah

johnny crunch, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

So if he was the sort who could draw a lot more - like Dane Cook - would he not be able to do what he did, or would he just need to do multi night stands like in NYC?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)

basically. he said he couldve played madison sq garden but wouldve had to have $$ tickets & doesnt like the idea of stand up in such big rooms that much

johnny crunch, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:25 (fourteen years ago)

Does the Season 2 DVD have any commentary? Would love to hear commentary on how some episodes/stories happened (Dane Cook for one), though on the other hand I don't really want to lost the weird-dream-ness of the show by learning too much.

Odd Spice (Eazy), Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

wow he's performing at Severance Hall in cleveland, which is almost exclusively Orchestra/recitals/jazz once a year place

i haven't seen any. what i saw of the s1 commentaries was great, though; he was eating & just sorta zoning in and out for some. he goes into the dane cook thing in some length in this, iirc (if it isn't that it's part one of the same thing), it's interesting

setting this on the DVR reminded me how awesome the description was for the final episode of Season 2 - "Louie has a bad time in general"

Hey, thanks for those links - exactly what I was looking for.

Odd Spice (Eazy), Thursday, 28 June 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

whatever % of the show's budget was spent on destroying that car was totally worth it

noticed vernon chatman of wonder showzen, xavier renegade angel, etc was listed as a producer

ep was not great, but v happy it's back

johnny crunch, Friday, 29 June 2012 03:09 (fourteen years ago)

ep was worth car destruction and confusing parking sign

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:48 (fourteen years ago)

yeah end bit was good too /liveblogging

goonrise zingdom (some dude), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:49 (fourteen years ago)

Him looking at the ice cream was great. Weird that he decided to show his 'ex-wife'.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:51 (fourteen years ago)

also the quick "i should buy a motorcycle" turnaround.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:51 (fourteen years ago)

lol at the old lady "obama" throwaway joke

buh, Friday, 29 June 2012 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

Would be unsurprised to see a completely different ex-wife in a later episode.

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i have no doubts about that.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Friday, 29 June 2012 04:02 (fourteen years ago)

the bit after the credits was pretty amazing, i've definitely been there

frogbs, Friday, 29 June 2012 05:38 (fourteen years ago)

this maybe speaks to my emotional immaturity more than the quality of the ep but i thought the relationship stuff in this was really good, some sense of self-awareness and communication having to be dragged out of louie. & i am maybe overreading but i thought the clinton/gore sign in his apt was interesting too. he has this sorta self-effacing sense of what his character should be in the programme, some of his laziness, like when he gets in a fight with the right leaning comic in s1. it seemed like a prominent thing in support of him being just vaguely mired in the '90s.

blossom smulch (schlump), Friday, 29 June 2012 13:25 (fourteen years ago)

the total disregard for continuity here is really neat and unlike anything I've ever seen on TV before; like, how the hell did Louie decide on that actress to play his ex-wife?

frogbs, Friday, 29 June 2012 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

I mean I'm guessing she's just a great person for the part, but still, I can't even imagine another show that would just do that

frogbs, Friday, 29 June 2012 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe my expectations were raised too high, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the premiere episode. Also, enough with the stereotype "I-write-well-for-women" Jewish super-smart castrating bitch who happens to be right character...we get it, you're coming off well, Louis, can we just get the old girlfriend back from wherever she flew off to? (and I loved season one but season two not so much)

Iago Galdston, Friday, 29 June 2012 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

(and I loved season one but season two not so much)

does not compute

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

oh wait, was season two with pamela adlon? all i'm saying is she was the saving grace of that season for me...sorry!

Iago Galdston, Friday, 29 June 2012 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

Feels like this show is about to get over-analyzed episode by episode versus praised as a whole (see: Slate).

Odd Spice (Eazy), Friday, 29 June 2012 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

the car!

Authorities don't know who shot the 50 Cent the goose. (forksclovetofu), Friday, 29 June 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)

meh. seems like the show has already hit the late Seinfeld stage. but i look forward to being totally wrong!

Iago Galdston, Friday, 29 June 2012 16:31 (fourteen years ago)

Eazy's right - I feel like this is the new Arrested Development and will be analyzed as such, but the writing isn't really that rock-solid; it's probably of a better quality, as a whole, but I feel like Louie is designed to be sort of hit-and-miss.

frogbs, Friday, 29 June 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

I don't really buy that this was a "miss". I know MZS was saying that this season is a bit slow getting going but it really takes off about 5 eps in if that gives comfort to the people who didn't care for this. I'm happy to enjoy the rhythms of the show, really, and I love his attention to detail and the small but honest things like him lying on the couch there at the end.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Friday, 29 June 2012 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

Rad. I love the "is this after midnight?" bit.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 29 June 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

My favorite was that green sign with the line through it, "okay, what does this mean? It's not red, so it can't be bad, right?"

frogbs, Friday, 29 June 2012 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

this was a good ep
also, GABY HOFFMAN
