enh if you thought it used to be bad, you might be right to stay away.

sorta feels like it's just going thru the motions/running on inertia for a while now

johnny crunch, Monday, 25 June 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

with occasional great episodes

40oz of tears (Jordan), Monday, 25 June 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

I think I'll check back over this thread and see if there are any good eps. The two or three shows I tried to get through were so depressing though.

how's life, Monday, 25 June 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

the best advice is honestly to cherrypick the ones that sound good/tolerable from this 900 post thread (if they're freely available, i dont even know). & if you h8 those, it's just not ur thing

lol xp

johnny crunch, Monday, 25 June 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

i really liked the chelsea handler episode cos she basically turned the tables on him. was unsurprised to see the comments on that were really negative.

goole, Monday, 25 June 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

A lot of people hate Chelsea Handler, but I've got no problem with her at all. And her episode was fun because neither of them knew why the other was there.

Of the ones that are still free, my favorites are the Donnell Rawlings and the Molly Shannon episodes. Though there are a lot of good ones. Save the musician interviews for last though.

President Keyes, Monday, 25 June 2012 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

the Mark Duplass one seemed like a stop on his promotional tour for his new movie. I liked how he kept bringing it up though Maron wasn't bothering to ask about it. He was more interesting on Studio 360 a couple weeks ago.

President Keyes, Monday, 25 June 2012 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

the Jack White one is probably the best of his musician interviews, because it's the least facepalm-y

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 25 June 2012 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

Todd Hanson is the best one, hands down.

Iago Galdston, Monday, 25 June 2012 22:53 (thirteen years ago)

yes and no - it's pretty full on and shouldn't be your first Maron.

don't go in without being prepared for maaaaajor sadness. that one seriously broke me. I liked it, I got a lot out of it. but it's a LOT

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 25 June 2012 22:55 (thirteen years ago)

That one is good, but it's no longer in the last 50 on itunes, and I doubt someone on the fence about Maron wants to shell out for the app. (I suppose there's illegal ways to get it free, but I've never pirated a podcast.)

President Keyes, Monday, 25 June 2012 22:58 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't mind the duplass one, mostly because maron is a lot better at talking about film than he is about music.

40oz of tears (Jordan), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 16:57 (thirteen years ago)

I listened to the Donnell Rawlings episode and liked it pretty well. He almost derailed it for me in the beginning with all his "by the way I'm a FORMER DRUG ADDICT" stuff.

Weird Al: Really nice and sweet ep.

Smothered, Covered and Chunked!!! (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

My favorite 2012 eps have been
Russell Brand
Steven Wright
Ralphie May
Paul Feig
Bill Lawrence
Weird Al
Bob Zmuda
Craig Ferguson
Live: Neal Brennan/Mr Show reunion
Jack White

really hope Maron either re-gets Brennan back in to do a new interview, or Brennan lets him air the original. Those two have some pretty good, weird chemistry. Or seemed to on the live ep.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 17:25 (thirteen years ago)

i like all of those on VG's list that i've heard, steven wright esp. i'd def add jeffrey tambor who really cut the hell out of him thru the whole thing.

pvmic bellvm (goole), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

oh yeah I forgot about Tambor, he was fun

Good week! According to Maron's twitter, John Oliver is on Thursday.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 July 2012 01:10 (thirteen years ago)

awesome

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 July 2012 02:27 (thirteen years ago)

Fiona Apple is like a cross between a 5 year old and a...well I'm not quite sure yet what the other part is.

She doesn't even have to really elaborate on what her deeper issues are because you can feel them on the surface, in the tone of her voice and the way she talks...she's a really strange girl.

Endearing somehow, though. Maybe because I already like her music so I'm more inclined to hear her out. But man alive I dunno if I've encountered anyone who's THAT non-linear in just general conversation.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:13 (thirteen years ago)

Just cued it up

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

Last 20 to 30 minutes gets pretty real

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:35 (thirteen years ago)

I think anything would seem real compared to small talk about juicers.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 July 2012 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

colonics too weee O_o

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)

She's a peculiar girl, no doubt about it.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 July 2012 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

Odd episode, but also maybe one of my favorites? I dunno. Plenty to think about.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 July 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

It was really interesting to me that she could be so discombobulate and then occasionally she could just take a quiet moment, gather her thought s and totally drive a point home so concisely.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

*discombobulated

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

What did everyone think of the one before this new one...some woman named Benincasa?

Iago Galdston, Monday, 16 July 2012 23:48 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't listened to her yet -- sounded like an interesting premise though

is it good?

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 July 2012 23:49 (thirteen years ago)

she wasn't anything special, but i enjoy all but a very few of the WTF podcasts....the first few minutes of their convo is very "get a room you two"

Iago Galdston, Monday, 16 July 2012 23:57 (thirteen years ago)

jb smoove's hour long monologue was pretty great

40oz of tears (Jordan), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

New John Oliver interview is v enjoyable. Though I wanted to climb through my headphones and push Maron out of the way when Oliver casually says he befriended Richard Ayoade in his first year of Cambridge. "Okay that it I'm taking over this interview, Maron, I love you but you are BUFFOON"

lol

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 July 2012 17:14 (thirteen years ago)

Can we come up witt a comprehensive list of Maron's ye olde classics for various subjects

England: Stewart Lee changed my life
SNL: Did you meet Lorne Michaels
