I've only had the 15. A friend got a Van Winkle flight at a restaurant (where someone else was footing the bill).

Woodford Reserve Rye Twin Pack: 2 bottles (375ml.) of Woodford Reserve Rye, one from New Cask, one from Aged Cask packaged in a beautiful wood box. CCL received only eight of these sets and we have them while they last for $69.49 per box. Treat your favorite Rye lover right and pick them up one now.

it's the end of a long-ass week so i'm doing something i don't do often and enjoying a pour of george t. stagg

call all destroyer, Saturday, 23 June 2012 02:47 (fourteen years ago)

Friend came over and we did an impromptu tasting of each of the woodford bottles. We approve, but the aged one needs a sliver of ice/splash of water to open it up

The picture up thread is an accurate reflection of Amthus's current in-stock range of Van Winkles
In their Soho (London) shop (I popped in today because i was in the area).

The nice lady in there said that she seems to sell a lot of the stuff to very pleased American tourists. Prices start at £48 for the weaker 10-year.

Tim, Saturday, 23 June 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

$50 was what the 15-year was going for less than a year ago. Back when you could still sometimes find it. So £48 for the 10 ... wow, from an exchange rate perspective. Tim, how much the 15?

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't make a note, I'm afraid - I think it was something like £75 but don't hold me to that.

I won't be in Chicago for a few months but I'm a fairly regular visitor there, fwiw...

Tim, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

Ha, you got my wheels spinning! But even £48 is a lot for a bottle of bourbon, given we live in a golden age when, I dunno, bargains like Old Weller, Elijah Craig and Ancient Ancient Age abound.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 23 June 2012 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

UK prices for US-whisky are always high, except for supermarket stuff like JD.

It seems roughly that $x in the USA becomes £x here, at best!

Here is Amathus's online stock of Winkles...

so $101 for the rye; really not that much worse than it is here and with the added bonus of just sitting on the shelf

call all destroyer, Saturday, 23 June 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

My excellent local drinks shop sometimes has Winkle Rye, for around £68.

This is more indicative of the price differential...

and I paid probably about $60 post-tax so.... yeah, wee bit of price inflation there

mh, Saturday, 23 June 2012 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

Explains (along with availability) my eternally looking for US whisky mules!

only NWOFHM! is real (krakow), Saturday, 23 June 2012 21:33 (fourteen years ago)

when the woodford rye 2-pack came out here it was actually around 100 before i started to see it closer to 70 so the price of that thing has kind of been all over the place

call all destroyer, Saturday, 23 June 2012 21:41 (fourteen years ago)

Anyway, I'm drinking a little closer to home tonight, with some Ardbeg 10.

ljubljana, Saturday, 23 June 2012 22:10 (fourteen years ago)

Xxxpost Simgle malt prices US vs UK would also be similar right?

just sayin, Saturday, 23 June 2012 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

that site above has laphroaig for £30 which would be $47. laphroaig here is generally $50 - (more commonly) $60.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 23 June 2012 22:18 (fourteen years ago)

not impressed by EC12 (bought at good spirit co) (who stock three van winkles iirc)

reflexing cozen stail (cozen), Saturday, 23 June 2012 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

That £30 ( as with all quoted uk prices) includes tax. Which your US figures might too, but I can never tell.

Tim, Saturday, 23 June 2012 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

Nah, ours are usually pretax

mh, Saturday, 23 June 2012 23:32 (fourteen years ago)

15, 20, or 23? they all have the guy.

I like EC12. It doesn't have a lot of character, but like Woodford it's pretty smooth and mixes well. Also, it's got a cool giant cork.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 25 June 2012 15:24 (thirteen years ago)

Fudge. That didn't work.

almond floor cleaner for a chaser, huh?

mh, Monday, 25 June 2012 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

It's a vital component of a cocktail I like the call the Gut Cleaner. Needless to say, after the Gut Cleaner, you'll need the Squirt and Mop for the floor. It's all quite symbiotic.

two months pass...

just picked up my ardbeg galileo - in two minds about opening it, since it's already running about £100 on ebay

skrill xx (cozen), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

Per CAD's recommendation, I picked up a bottle of Four Roses OESQ a few months back. I thought it was a little too hot for my tastes, and didn't really like the flowery flavor undertones. But I'm going to bust it out again when the cold months come and try it again.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 18:08 (thirteen years ago)

curious how the galileo is, if you decide to drink it. i passed on a bottle when they were available here.

how did we get here how? (ytth), Thursday, 6 September 2012 05:18 (thirteen years ago)

still swithering on the galileo

anyone tried jack daniel's tennessee honey?
