Charles de Gaul (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 08:16 (thirteen years ago)

Ditto, ditto, and ditto. I warned against it upthread.

nickn, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 08:18 (thirteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

the "hummus salad dressing" is really just tahini sauce and/but is v. good. i bought it as a dip for their falafel, which are otherwise a little dry.

SHOCKING THE ACER ARENA (get bent), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 02:27 (thirteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

how are their tortilla chips?

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

Not a TJ's branded product, but deal alert -- they're selling variety packs of Butternuts Beers (Porkslap Pale Ale etc.) for like $15 a 12-pack. Surprisingly good in spite of corny packaging and names.

bert yansh (Hurting 2), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

btw I assume that's just NY area TJ's, since they're a local brewer.

bert yansh (Hurting 2), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck PA and NJ liquor laws so fucking hard tbh

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

yeah they have so stupid ass laws on the books in that regard

carne asada, Friday, 17 August 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)

The tortilla chips are good! They have salted and unsalted, so look sharp.

kate78, Friday, 17 August 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

CARRIBEAN FLOES OMG!!!! It is going to take every oz of strenth not to finish the rest of the box before sundown

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)

They softened up on my ride home and it was like strawberry-mango sorbet on a stick I can't even

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

And the coconut!! Some floes are fresh but these floes the freshest!

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

I probably eat 5 to 8 floes a week.

Jeff, Friday, 17 August 2012 21:17 (thirteen years ago)

And damn I miss the chili mango floes.

Jeff, Friday, 17 August 2012 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

Why did they go away?

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 17 August 2012 21:27 (thirteen years ago)

I guess a lot of their stuff comes and goes seasonally. Maybe it will return.

Jeff, Friday, 17 August 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

I loved the coconut floes until about a week ago when they were suddenly way too sweet for me. I wish I had come to that realization at the end of a box instead of at the beginning of one.

TRIPLE GINGER SNAP LEMON ICE CREAM

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 17 August 2012 22:26 (thirteen years ago)

cannot stop eating the fake twizzlers.

ezra kleine nachtmusik (get bent), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 00:18 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah those are weirdly addictive. I love real Twizzlers so maybe I'm just predisposed to enjoy chewy plasticy strawberry candy.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 01:38 (thirteen years ago)

I had a severe problem w that licorice (the black kind not the red kind) and it was hard to give up!! I ate like a lb a week!!

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 15:06 (thirteen years ago)

the ones I've liked the best: colombian, fair trade bolivian, honduras

but they all have a slight nast to them

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 15:06 (thirteen years ago)

just made their gluten free brownies - the verdict - good!

Sweet Yin Yang ☯ (Latham Green), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

I really like the Organic Sumatran coffee, but I am not a coffee snob.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

I appreciate your egalitarianism in caffeinated beverages

Sweet Yin Yang ☯ (Latham Green), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

The Bay-something one (known around our house as "the one in the blue can with the boat on it) was the least offensive IMO, but I have not tried others recently and have just switched to Whole Foods pleasant moring buzz (for regular drip) and Peet's Major Dickinsomething for espresso drinks.

quincie, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

"Whole Foods pleasant morning buzz" = ground way too coarse for the likes of me (coffee vampyre)- and too lazy to grind the berries myself

Sweet Yin Yang ☯ (Latham Green), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

I can't believe everyone hates TJ's coffee so much. It makes me wonder if my tastes are those of an unwashed barbarian horde because so far it has been one of the more enjoyable coffees I've had in the last year or two. And I even bought some Kenyan AA whatever fancy stuff from the shop in Grand Central thinking that I should try the "good" stuff, but thoroughly disliked it.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

what shop in Grand Central, Joe?

IDGI -- can't you just get the beans ground to your liking at WF?

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 16:28 (thirteen years ago)

No, the coffee bean stand in the market.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

oh w/e, a lot of "fancy" coffee is crap, so I wouldn't doubt your taste buds. If you want to taste the difference, get something like counter culture, intelligentsia or stumptown, preferably roasted within the last couple of weeks.

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

Whole Foods coffee is very good imo though

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

and Joe is good. I don't like it as much as the three I mentioned, but it's good.

There's actually a place right by Grand Central called Rize that sells Stumptown iirc, although it seemed to be more expensive there than it was in Brooklyn.

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)

i don't have a problem with trader joe's coffee, i like the tarrazzo coffee in particular

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)

metropolis coffee is the only kind i've had that tastes notably better than the stuff i get from TJs

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 19:15 (thirteen years ago)

I had Peet's in an airport once and I was blown away by it, but I don't require that like every Sunday morning when I'm hungover and just hanging around home.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

yes you do

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

you DESERVE it

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

in other news

* is the flower pepper just gone from my TJs or is it ;_; gone forever?
* highly recommend the fresh rice noodles in the refrigerator aisle for super quick and easy stir fries/soups and whatnot

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)

I've never tried the flower pepper but if they're discontinuing stuff I will buy all the smoked salt. Lechera, that one I owe 100% to you.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Tuesday, 4 September 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

That shit is so good. I love the flower pepper with all of my being. Flowers and pepper, together at last.
