Of the three remaining movies, I have a ton of dope pix and such for two of them - so rather than dumping them all out at once like I usually do, I'm just going to post a few images here and there throughout the day when I have pockets of time.
toward the end of the horror poll rollout, I began snagging pix along the way which were not necessarily screencaps, but just cool shit that I thought would be nice to have on file for random things like, well, this thread I guess! (this would be why a lot of poster art, lobby cards, random promotional graphics and such has been appearing in the mix lately). In the case of Alien, I stumbled upon a wealth of choice miscellany, including some pretty great poster designs. I'd actually really like to get my hands on actual copies of a lot of the poster art I've dug up online for this project, being that it has basically become my latest obsession.
Anyway, here's the first batch for..

Bottom left is Korean? LOVE. Also love the Polish one, but obvs look at it! I love interpretations of horror movies as the poster rather than a screenshot or scary home exterior or w/e.

while it wasn't all that o_O to chance upon things like Alien-themed action figures and trading cards, I did think it was kinds strange that many (if not most) of the Alien-themed products were aimed at little kids. I mean, its not like its Cannibal Holocaust or anything, but Alien is pretty dark and messed up!
My guess is that opportunistic merchandisers were trying to cash in on the brand new Star Wars method of limitless commodification & were jumping at anything w/ a whiff of sci-fi/adventure, hard-R or no. but yeah, at any rate, here are some wholesome Alien-themed products for yr toddlers!

've been editing, cropping and posting these images for several weeks now &, given the sheer quantity of material I'd previously amassed for the horror poll, adhering to the same chronology as the poll itself was an easy organizational decision itt - so aside from being a showcase for the caps and such, this has also served as a loose reprisal of Eric H's noble data-tallying efforts. But here's the thing: this is not the horror poll, so I bear no obligation to honor The Shining with some sort of grand finale display. In fact, I'm going to straight up just say fuck a shining. I enjoy/revere/etc TS (flawed as it is) & I did include it on my ballot. Still, how superfluous would it be for me to post a bunch of also-ran screencaps of krazy jack chasing shrill mousy, when I already contributed ten sterling examples of perfect cinematographic symmetry to the poll proper? OK yeah Kubrick visionary perfectionist genius sure (can't really call challops tbph) - but b/c he was what he was, every frame and angle of the The Shining's photography has been dissected, contemplated and digested by anyone w/ a passing interest in The Cinematic Portrayal of Interior Space - and what's the fun in rehashing shit like that for something like this?
instead, I've decided to award the big hurrah to a title legitimately deserving of such honors, my own favorite horror movie, The Motherfucking Texas Chainsaw Massacre. iirc there are at least seven of you here who would prob get behind said logic, and to you I dedicate the following days-long cavalcade of TCM-related screencaps, photos, designs, oddities and misc bric-a-brac. I've already accumulated a shit-ton of material to post, but plz don't let that stop you from posting yr own pics, curiosities and/or spooky lo-fi rock jamz.
ok, so..

^ I'll be posting plenty more TCM goodness in the upcoming days, tho I wanted to get things rolling by posting the obvious ('obvious,' in this case being tantamount to 'A++ unassailably classic and awesome')

8 year old me owned all of those alien toys except the kane action figure. nobody bought them so you could get that stuff half off, alien merch clogged the clearance aisle of the eatontown toy world, much to my childhood delight.
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 21 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)
well then, I guess I ought to finish this up. For all you lurkers silently clamoring for more ghastly fanfare (like so Edward, I guess!), my past week has been thoroughly weird and demanding, so I didn't quite get on the ball w/ posting the rest of the TCM material last week like I intended to. I should be able to get quite a bit of it up today, though, so brace yrself for some srs unchecked TCM fanboy geekness from here on out.
We'll start with the Epcot Center's collection of Texas Chainsaw posters from around the globe! The first one on the left is super-rad imo - it is from Ghana & has a curious origin story, which you can read about here if yr inclined to: http://mondoexploito.com/?p=2251

Okay, I think I managed to work out that the Italian title of TCM means literally "do not open the/that door", but wasn't sure about "aprite" so went to google translate. Which was no bloody help at all, as it translated it as "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"!
