"I like how Jesse tells Jon to get a new shtick and then suddenly assumes Jon's shtick circa 2004."

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:35 (twenty years ago)

I hate everyone who has posted in the last 10 minutes, including myself of course. Mostly myself.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:36 (twenty years ago)

STOP THAT, ALL OF YOU. Or the thread will be unreadable. I'm going away to do lots of work this aftneroon and when I come back in here late this evening I want your thread SPIC AND SPAN. Do you understand?

Jesse, you do not qualify as the spic.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:40 (twenty years ago)

I had a baguette + spicy hummus from the grocery store for lunch. And I found some Gates BBQ sauce, so dinner tonight is going to be awesome.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:44 (twenty years ago)

I had fried catfish (terrible), mashed potatoes and gravy (passable), and collard greens (delish).

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:47 (twenty years ago)

And this, ladies and gentlecunts, is the shelf.

It looks a little better in person.

John--under the window? That's a box that holds a mitre box!

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:48 (twenty years ago)

Cafeteria catfish, huh?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:49 (twenty years ago)

This is the only Mitre I've ever heard of:

I'm telling you, don't do it.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:57 (twenty years ago)

Do me a favor? Put him outside the window?

Also, what did you use to do that?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Photoshop, sillyhead.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Oh.

Will you put him outside, looking in?

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:00 (twenty years ago)

And mirror image him, too, please.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Wow! Thanks Kenan!!!

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Now animate him, maybe breaking through the window or shaking a little ass?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:11 (twenty years ago)

1. AMANDER! This is FANTASTIC! Congratulations on your new, awesome job! If you get a chance, say hello to Prof. P0w3r and tell her we're pals. She's an awesomely great person.

2. JVC, this now means you have to come hang out with us in person soon. HAVE TO. It's part of the initiation.

3. I'm a transit nerd, too. I *heart* public transportation and think it's impossible to underestiminate its societal importance.

4. My final exam for Economic Justice is to pick a social ill discussed in class and analyze the efficacy of the remedies we discussed in class within a neoclassical, law and economic, and/or critical legal theory framework, reaching a conclusion as to the most effective solution. I think the social ill I will pick is: Capitalism. I also think that my most effective solution will be: burn it all down.

I am avoiding work.

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

RE: the transit stuff, the Red Line extension seems way more important than the Circle Line, which sounds very nice, but the CTA on the South Side is noticeably cheaper/dingier-looking and all-around crappier than it is elsewhere. It would be nice to see the city pay some attention to its poorer residents.

Ah, that animation is giving me a headache.

regular roundups (Dave M), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Kenan you have convinced me to reinstall a gif animator on my laptop.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

You know, I totally agree that a red line extension is very important. But I also think that keeping a strong, cohesive center to a city is more important. Otherwise you end up with sprawl. So I think the circle line is a really good thing, but I think that in a perfectly just society, along with a circle line would be affordable housing, good schools for all, and a range of jobs within the permiter of that circle.

Basically I think that the social and economic injustice is too strong to be fixed with a red line extension. Or a circle line. So I'm going just with straight up city planning strategies.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

extension seems way more important than the Circle Line

hmm, i'd say the circle line would probably service more people than a red line extension. and it would service more people in more areas of the city. i'm not sure about the cta being cheaper/dingier than the rest of the lines. the green line was rehabbed 10 years ago, the red line north of the loop is in pretty groady shape too.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:41 (twenty years ago)

SF, I can definitely do the hanging out thing sometime. I was hoping to make it to one of the C@n@st@ shows this month, but Mondays are just not a good night for me to go out for the most part.

jonviachicago (jonviachicago), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:43 (twenty years ago)

VOUCHING FOR GRODINESS OF NORTHERN RED LINE.

Also - thank you jeebus for the Fullterton/Bellmont station rehabs. I can't tell you how many times I've taken my life into my own hands to try to switch trains. It's deadly crowded at rush hour and there are all these insane obstacles and I've nearly been knocked down the steps or off the platform (and nearly done the same to others) in the rush to switch lines before doors close.

Jon - my real name is Jenny if you want to call me that, but you don't have to. Mondays were no good for me this month. I totally could have done it after classes ended. I'm basically going to treat my summer socializing as if I didn't have a job.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

You guys don't know grody until you catch a man URINATING in plain view at the Jarvis stop, which is visible from your large living room window and finally realize why it always smells alternately of bleach and pee. That guy can go eat a pile of shit for peeing on my train stop.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I mean, on the platform. He was whizzing at 8AM ON THE WOODEN PLATFORM.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:49 (twenty years ago)

"it" =/= my living room window. (i meant the stop smells of bleach and pee, not my living room)

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

sorry, i'm all over the place today.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

i've been on a train with a peeing homeless guy. blue line, around 3 a.m. it was when i was living on austin. we were coming back from a show at the metro and somewhere around kedzie or pulaski this guy whipped out his junk and started peeing on the floor of the train. this enraged a hispanic gang-banger on the train who started hurling racial epithets at him and threatening to stab the guy. someone hit the call box and they were both thrown off at cicero. weird night.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:53 (twenty years ago)

That guy deserved it, for peeing on the train. That's nasty!

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:56 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe my level of productivity today. I seriously need to chart my life for a while b/c I think this is part of a hypo-manic thing. I spend weeks lolling around in bed being depressed and then I take off for a few days. But it's definitely not mania.

To recap:
-shelf
-chicken
-fixed screen so cat won't fall out (temp. measure until landlady installs new windows which are in the basement)
-spackled holes in walls
-organized under kitchen sink and in pantry
-reorganized foodstuffs
-J/O

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:00 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it was gross but i certainly didn't want to have to get involved in an attempted murder over it.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:00 (twenty years ago)

-Returned stupid headphones to Amazon
-Bought something else on Amazon (I am a little leery of saying what in front of A-M-A-N-D-A....

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:02 (twenty years ago)

Cocaine?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:04 (twenty years ago)

dear god, no. i wouldn't either. there was that time i intervened with the pee-bottle-toting man who told me i had small-ass titties, but that's because he was bothering a little kid.

jesse, i think i only noticed that because you share all of your shopping adventures with us. i don't usually mention stuff like that. if anyone cares, i bought a quality foundation garment the other day and guess what -- it roolz!

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:04 (twenty years ago)

Oh! I think this is directed to Kenan mostly....but would someone PLEASE help me out with installing my A/C unit within the next week? It involves a little heavy lifting (not too bad) but mostly I need someone to hold the window open while I position the unit and secure it. Not hard, and I'll buy you a beer.

I think Kenan is the best candidate b/c Jeff has already done enough lifting in this apt., girls are week, John---well, John, come on, can you imagine? And the rest of you I don't know it that way.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:05 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha. As I posted that I thought of that too!

No. I'll tell you all later when it arrives and I can see if it makes me happy.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

Jesse -- I'll drop by this weekend and help you out. Saturday or Sunday, maybe?

Man Man (kenan), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Better make FIRM PLANS with this guy.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:10 (twenty years ago)

STFU

xpost--Sunday afternoon? I'm going to Patrick's show that evening. You should come with me.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:14 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't mocking you (although it may have sounded like it) -- I agree with you that people should be more specific if they're going to waffle on plans. I hate being stood up.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 27 April 2006 18:17 (twenty years ago)

(xp) I don't trust him. Why does he like teh Latinos so much?
