decided i am going to try to avoid reading anything about this show (aside from this thread)

it might be in part the late hour, but this finale just destroyed me

I liked the soundtrack to during the wedding -- good calls for actual wedding reception-ish music. The ending made no sense at all to me. If you have lived in new york for even a momentary amount of time, and you are in a subway station, you know how to find out where you are. You look at the signs all over the subway station.

I think that was a metaphor tbh

i haven't watched this episode yet but Lena Dunham said in an interview posted upthread (re. the programme "baggage") that her irl small baggage was that her sense of direction was so bad that she basically never knew where she was, often got confused and, as a result, was basically always late when meeting people which infuriated them.

dude who plays Adam is named Adam irl, and he IS basically his character

Except that he's an actor, and apparently good at his job?

"playing himself" doesn't pass the smell test with me talking about any actor - how would one know?

yeah that's a red herring. dude has amazing screen presence.

I find it a little sad that he's by far the most enjoyable character to watch at this point.

stock manic pixie dream boy. seriously. replace him with Natalie Portman or whoever and modulate a bit of gender specific stuff, and you'll see it right away.

groudbreaking. now talk about how there are no characters of color, and that they all have famous parents.

the first season is over, and there are the people that like the show, the people that don't like the show, and the people that just can't stop beating the same four or five drums.

I don't think the def of "manic pixie" allows for characters whose sex fantasies involve underage prostitutes.

for real? i thought manic pixie was a relatively new drum. i'm serious though. when i watch adam, i feel... objectified.

uh. i don't think it's possible for there to be a male equivalent of the manic pixie dream girl.

idk how people feel about her but Jessa is kind of amazing

that guy is great but it would worry me that Girls would go down too much of a SATC road with that one. although the character is funnier than anyone who was ever on SATC.

I don't think you're wrong. He has a point about her chasing him like he was the Beatles, but it's a huge 180 from the lonewolfishness that informed the bulk of their relationshiop early on, even if he's not that way so much now.

honestly I think she'd be cool with it if it was her idea, or if he hadn't said it out loud to her face in the moment. you know? I think it's just that she wants more control over the decision, somehow. shrug.

but honestly he's a cool guy, he's real with her and her hanging onto her normal way of life is kind of lol since that's really not working out that well for her anyway.

alllll of that being said, I get her too. I'd probably be similarly weirded out, even if part of me did want him to move in.

oy I'm overthinking now, I'll shut up.

loved this show. bring on s2.

finale was probably the funniest of the season for me, show definitely got better overall as it went on, although i'm not really fully on board.

Adam is not very good at gently introducing concepts to people, this is on the same level as his tantrum over the play, and Hannah is not very good at assessing other people's lives and the impact of her self-regard upon them, they'll be fine if they talk to each other calmly the next day.

Cringed at Lena writing Hannah being told what a good person and great writer she is, but loved everything else this episode. Hope Chris O'Dowd can take accent classes before he shows up next season though.

why didn't they just get him to do his own accent? there's no reason he couldn't be a high flying irish wall street broker or whatever the hell he's supposed to be,

something about the accent though makes his character more awkward and try-hard-y, like I don't know if I'd believe it as much if he had his natural accent because I like him so much irl?

I mean, it's a bad fake accent...but everything about him is kinda facepalm so it feels like it fits in a weird way

seriously tho -- also hated the 1 billionth recent iteration of 'person standing in the street suddenly gets struck by vehicle,' even if they halfheartedly subverted it by it being only a minor injury.

but otherwise, good episode. loved bobby moynihan being surprisingly charming and getting the girl.

the whole exchange while Marnie was eating the cake was really kinda cute as hell

yeah allowing her to have a moment like that was a great payoff for that character, especially after that other encounter with a dorky SNL guy that ended in feverish masturbation

was this episode one big dream
