yes. the best they can hope for is 3rd.
walcott will be extra dangerous now with an ankle injected with pure crank
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 15 June 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
Sure? If England beat Ukraine and Sweden beat France (which would be the least likely scenario, true), don't Sweden go through ahead of France on H2H?
― William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 15 June 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
Actually, no, sorry, forgot they lost to Ukraine...
― William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 15 June 2012 20:44 (fourteen years ago)
wellbeck miscontrol for that goal imo.
― tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Friday, 15 June 2012 20:57 (fourteen years ago)
history will p definitely mask the quality of that England performance with their goals but as long as Hodgson is still willing to pistolwhip them until they stop falling asleep at setpieces it doesn't rly matter

so do you drop carroll or wellbeck after that performance? hopefully walcott keeps milner's place.
― mizzell, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:33 (fourteen years ago)
hilarious game.
― caek, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:34 (fourteen years ago)
carroll will be droppedxp
― pandemic, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:34 (fourteen years ago)
Carroll obviously. Welbeck and Rooney play together every week
― Number None, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:34 (fourteen years ago)

I would play wellbeck, but that header is exactly how roy wants to play.
― mizzell, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)
according to lolexi lalas, that's how he wants to play against sweden, but wouldn't persist with it against a decent defence
― caek, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:38 (fourteen years ago)
Ashley Young looked a bit of a lightweight in that match
― Zaireeka Badu (NickB), Friday, 15 June 2012 21:40 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, he wasn't any better than Milner tbh. I hate his stupid hunched running style too

Welbeck knew exactly what he was doing, he immediately turns to follow the path of the ball. He's done similar things for Utd too
― Number None, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:45 (fourteen years ago)
yeah his reaction made it seem like he expected it to go in
― mizzell, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:55 (fourteen years ago)
wonder what roy keane would make of that flag
― caek, Friday, 15 June 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)
Welbeck obviously knew what he was doing and it was well done. Even I can admit that.
Tho Rooney would have been on the edge of England's box for that chance.

I missed yesterday's game but having seen the highlights and the France game, England at least appear to be playing with some spirit, which is more than you can say for any other tournament since 2004.
The problem that won't go away is the inability to keep the ball in midfield but England don't have the personnel to fix that one at the moment so they're not going to get anywhere without mad pace on the flanks, which makes leaving Lennon at home even more bewildering. England have also been shit at defending set pieces since basically forever.
Love Welbeck. Should start with Rooney against Ukraine. Young out Milner out, both Arsenal wingers in.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 16 June 2012 10:59 (fourteen years ago)
it was such a brilliant game.
― ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Saturday, 16 June 2012 11:04 (fourteen years ago)
Night after and it was an excellent winning goal - a win at an Euro match should be quietly celebrated. Glass of sherry type thing.
Would keep Milner in.
Just wish Eng could avoid Spain...
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 16 June 2012 11:11 (fourteen years ago)
if today's french news show is to be believed, andy warhol scored england's first goal last night.

I'm convinced there was a corner shortly afterwards where Zlatan had a drink from Hart's water bottle, too.

And it turns out I'm right:

Neil Ashton:
Holger Badstuber (Germany)
Position: Centre back Age: 23 Club: Bayern Munich
Scout’s Report: An exceptional left-footed defender. Classy and composed on the ball, he has an excellent reading of the game. He started his career at full back so he can operate in wider areas. He needs to work on his finishing when he goes forward for set pieces, judging by the header he put straight at the goalkeeper in Germany’s game against Holland.
Value: £15m
He’d fit in at... Manchester United or Arsenal. His versatility would definitely be a bonus for Arsene Wenger, given the manager’s difficulties in defence last season.
