That's pretty much how the gay threads started.

Welcome jer, I like gay sex and I hate most disco and most house music (even though I'm a gay Chicagoan).

They started because someone (who no longer posts in these threads) lamented having no IRL gay friends in town. Which isn't exactly the same thing, unless he was saying the reason he had no gay friends in town is because he wasn't gay enough.

It's been a long time since we did the roll call of the gay things we like/hate. Can't even remember which thread it was in.

"Excessive" political activism has never been my thing in any regard, tho.

the queerest one on the mix is 'willie o' winsbury' which is great: the king return from long captivity to discover his daughter is pregnant. she tells him it was poor willie what knocked her up, so he sends his men to capture and hang him. BUT when the king sees willie, he's like "DAMN, janet, i see why you fucked this dude, i would have hit that. ok you can marry him." xps

morbs, there were a lot of mixes during my courtship of dustin, i introduced him to shirley collins early on. combined with our mutual interest in folk music and a lot of record collecting and research, it's something that we both enjoy & enjoy sharing with each other? also murder ballads are pretty cool

does "Long Black Veil" fit into one of these? or is that more contemporary?

ok, I had no idea that originated as a Lefty Frizzell record in 1959!

most of the tracks are child ballads or their descendants, d. picked out british / irish / scottish recordings and i did american ones so there is a good helping of bluegrass / country / rockabilly type stuff there too.

He quit this thread b/c he said it had started as a place for gay folks who weren't into the usual cultural trappings of gayness, but it had turned into the opposite (plus apparently some personality conflicts w/ individuals). He said some of this via IM, but he did tell us off when he left.

Funny you should mention Sunday school because I think it's my creeping atheism that's feeding my desire to not waste any available time being unhappy or reading books.

I don't think he ever explicitly stated that. And the best thing about these threads has always been the clashing personalities. THAT is what's missing these days and what's kept post totals low.

Oh, and the list of ex-gay thread regular participants is about twice as long as the current "roster." That too.
