Viet Cong / Venture Capital / Valley Chick?

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 4 June 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

Two of those things mentioned in this episode actually.

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 4 June 2012 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, don't think the three way thing worked very well (though lol at Chris O'Dowd as a Venture Capitalist decrying how shitty it is to move to Williamsburg and be surrounded by jobless kids of rich people).

Adam/Hannah stuff was really great though.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 4 June 2012 20:50 (fourteen years ago)

Chris O'Dowd speaking American gave me the jibblies

the girls were fine - tho no shoshanna, :( - but what accent was chris o'dowd attempting there?

Sisig Steve (stevie), Monday, 4 June 2012 23:37 (fourteen years ago)

ya it seemed to be everywhere. but i thought his creepy pathetic breakdown was great even if wildly over the top.

adam is the best.

loving this show more and more

balls, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 02:09 (fourteen years ago)

i thought the VC scene was well-acted which saved it

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 03:33 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah Chris o dowd meltdown was p funny, also the SONGS with the children hahah.

Loved Adam/Hannah

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 03:35 (fourteen years ago)

three way was sorta meh, adam/hannah is a very familiar very crazy stupid kinda love
it is kinda odd how i always think he's capable of killing her
or peeing on her
and then he did one
so to speak
intrsting curveball finale: adam kills hannah with a bowling ball, hides body in floorboard, show goes on mostly the same

jump them into a gang - into the absurd (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 03:40 (fourteen years ago)

he'd probably build a replica viking funeral bier and set it afloat on the river for her

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 03:41 (fourteen years ago)

I assume vikings did that sort of thing

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 03:41 (fourteen years ago)

'Slave to Love' with bird/monkey screeches A+

but he go's to a resturang and then die in a toilet (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

and they were such spot-on song choices for THAT guy

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

don't really KNOW that guy? felt like a pastiche/strawman to me.

jump them into a gang - into the absurd (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't think too hard on it, it felt funny to me

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:59 (fourteen years ago)

Also valid

jump them into a gang - into the absurd (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

you guys are referring to some Irish comedian like he's a huge global star?

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think anyone did that? He was the romantic lead in one of the biggest comedies of recent years though

Number None, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)

i had never heard of him

wouldn't have guessed he was irish even if the accent was strange

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

he's Roy on The IT Crowd!

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

^^^^

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

i trust that worked out well for him

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

I've heard of The IT Crowd, yeah, have never seen it; prob has a devoted US cult of 50,000.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

Not much more than Britain then.

Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

i trust that worked out well for him

Well yeah, in that he was the romantic lead in one of the biggest comedies of recent years.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

haven't seen Bridesmaids either, was that a big role?

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

PAGING DR MORBS: TUOMAS HAS HACKED YR ACCOUNT

Sisig Steve (stevie), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

feel like i've totally outflanked morbs cuz i haven't even heard of bridesmaids

also i suspect i have seen more hou hsaio hsien films than morbs too

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

the main thing is rory is cuet

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno i feel the big lie around tuomas was that he had some kaspar hauser level cultural deprivation rather than an innate sense of timing wrt disclosing his selective ignorances

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:47 (fourteen years ago)

sorry stevie, is it Apatow Things or Britcoms that demand universal attention?

I count 10 or 11 Hou features that I've seen, nakh, nothing before A Time to Live...

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:48 (fourteen years ago)

just rory

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:49 (fourteen years ago)

also Jessa through that whole bar scene was giving me awkward flashbacks to myself stuck in the same role with friends as they were chatted up by random skeevy dudes who thought they were cooler than they are. just abject derision from 'hello' to 'uhhhhhhhh no we're leaving and so is she'

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

that's pretty good

i have seen a summer at grandpa's a while ago....but probably fewer than ten in total

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

the bar/rug scenes were unnecessarily distended beyond that screenshot i posted which p much summarized everything better than a whole tiresome gervaisian cringe session

too cool graham rix listening to neu (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

Did someone say IT Crowd? Don't worry about most of it but make sure you watch "Gay! The Gay musical" episode. Yes, I need to mention this any time someone brings up that show. It's that funny.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

comedy subjects that make me cautious: Brooklyn hipsters, gays, IT

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

Wait hold up, is Tuomas past tense now?

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

"I was just trying to be free"

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)

this ep was more traditional-TV than other eps but lots of good, interesting moments anyway
i realized that am watching this show more as a writer than usual, it's just fascinating that way

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:17 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i feel that. like attention to its tone & continuity, &c. i wonder if it's the knowledge that it's like the auteurial vision of LD. am super impressed w/the plotting between episodes, they're very neatly cohesive as single eps but everything's moved on a lot.

blossom smulch (schlump), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:32 (fourteen years ago)

This episode made CO'D seem funny and The Vaccines seem vaguely uplifting - which is some next level televisual alchemy, rilly.

Stevie T, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

The skeevy guy in the bar was a bit OTT but I liked how they wrote Jessa and Marnie from two opposite poles; Marnie pining for a boyfriend, esp an "important" one and Jessa not wanting anything to do with someone like that. The dude freaking about his rug did crack me up, though.

"Well, maybe you shouldn't invite 20 year old girls so as to wine them up on the floor, then, huh?"

Love Max Ophüls of us all (Michael White), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

serious lols at Jessa being all "Oh hey there" she thought it was the old dude at the bar that bought them the drinks and then "ugh rly" with the Chris O Dowd reveal.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 21:19 (fourteen years ago)

lol yes. also in being totally bored by the three-way but into kissing marnie.

blossom smulch (schlump), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

It all still seems very consequence free and I don't care anything about the individual characters, but I still really like this show which I think is a testament to the quality of the writing and acting.
