"need"

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

Haha also, I'm not sure how inconvenient cheese tortellini that you keep in the freezer is (I buy the stuff from the refrigerator section and freeze it).

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 20:56 (fourteen years ago)

It didn't occur to me to do that.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

Given your proclivity for freezing things, that kind of shocks me! But I'm glad you found out now, when you're young and have many years of freezing tortellini ahead of you.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

Right now I have a zip lock bag of milk in my freezer. Why because I don't keep milk around very much anymore and sometimes I need some for cooking.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Monday, 4 June 2012 21:21 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah that sounds about right.

carl agatha, Monday, 4 June 2012 21:36 (fourteen years ago)

It didn't occur to me to do that

Delbert Botts, D.D.S. (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 02:07 (fourteen years ago)

That is so good though bcz I always drink non-dairy milk and hate cooking things that call for regular milk bcz I buy a quart, use half a cup, and the rest just goes bad

Delbert Botts, D.D.S. (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 02:08 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah that's pretty frigging brilliant. I have little bags of half a can of coconut milk in the freezer, but it never occurred to me to do with animal leche.

Word of Wisdom Robots (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 02:35 (fourteen years ago)

Big fan of the portabella mushroom and the spinach and cheese and artichoke and cheese ravioli. Need to try the four cheese.

Their pulled pork is pretty good too, but Costco has one like twice the size for not much more money.

I freeze milk every time I buy it for a recipe and don't use it all, but usually I don't get a chance to use it again before it becomes horribly freezer burned.

tehresa, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 11:41 (fourteen years ago)

That's why I put mine in a bag and removed all the air.

Je55e, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

Do you guys use some sort of specialty milk that isn't sold at convenience stores?

game of crones (La Lechera), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

Does convenience store milk not expire?

carl agatha, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

be advised, trader joes fruit floes are the exact same thing as whole foods 365 frozen fruit bars and are about half the cost, also the lime ones are amazing

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

Lime ones were too intense for me. Chili mango is still my fav, followed by carribian then coconut.

Jeff, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:55 (fourteen years ago)

LL - Cooking for me is dependent on convenience. If I am making muffins from a box mix and I have to go to the store across the street to buy milk for them, I'm going to just buy a muffin at the store.

Je55e, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

I looked for chili mango the other night but they didn't have them :( they were sampling triple ginger lemon ice cream and it is amaazzzzing but the sample bite is about all the ice cream I can handle so I will never buy it.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 02:09 (fourteen years ago)

As of yesterday, our TJ's was out of all the "fruit floes" except for coconut.

Tropical Carrot Juice Blend is wonderful.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 00:12 (thirteen years ago)

Floe emergency.

Jeff, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 00:39 (thirteen years ago)

Big fan of the portabella mushroom and the spinach and cheese and artichoke and cheese ravioli.

I used to be you until I tried the arugula and parmesan ravioli and now I will buy no other variety

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 02:39 (thirteen years ago)

the butternut squash triangoli are just too damn sweet though

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 02:39 (thirteen years ago)

otm and otm, except I still do buy other varieties

why would she write "argh"? (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 02:41 (thirteen years ago)

Butternut squash risotto is way too sweet, too. Somebody in the TJ's test kitchen needs to rethink butternut squash.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:06 (thirteen years ago)

Add salt

Jeff, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:13 (thirteen years ago)

As of yesterday, our TJ's was out of all the "fruit floes" except for coconut.

Because of this thread I went to TJs yesterday specifically on the lookout for the chile mango floes but they did not have them. :( I came home with the Lime ones though and they were amazing.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:17 (thirteen years ago)

i think the chile mangos are discontinued (hence the crazy eddie's rock bottom pricing)
also discontinued: "perk you up?" nut mix with espresso beans. unhappy face emoticon.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

We buy so many Popsicles. All the floes augmented with raspberry cream and mango cream bars. And peach pops. This floe shortage concerns me greatly. They are a major part of my diet.

Jeff, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

oh no!

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

I want to go back and get more now. iirc they had Tropical and Coconut which both sound like flavors I'd enjoy.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:23 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah the coconut ones looked good. I didn't buy them, but no dairy, which would be nice to have around for a dairy-intolerant friend, unlike the coconut paletas I always have on hand. Are they good?

Word of Wisdom Robots (Abbbottt), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:39 (thirteen years ago)

ROSEMARY. PECANS. AND. CRANBERRIES.

that is all

they loooovin the crut (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 08:26 (thirteen years ago)

Veggie Pakoras are real good.

Peaceniks, Homos, and Potheads Who Wear Ties (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 09:02 (thirteen years ago)

I love the coconut popsicles. My only (very minor) quibble would be that they are maybe a little too sweet.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 12:25 (thirteen years ago)

Somehow the True Thai Vegetable Panang Curry in the microwavable cup manages to provide more than half of your daily recommended sodium intake while still tasting like it needs salt (and aside from raw radishes and cucumbers, I don't put salt on things).

carl agatha, Thursday, 14 June 2012 17:28 (thirteen years ago)

The Belgian Chocolate pudding is problematically good.

ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Monday, 18 June 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

the TJ almonds are kind of sad.

rayuela, Monday, 18 June 2012 19:19 (thirteen years ago)

having a "tropical" fruit floe right now. yum!

thumbs.db (get bent), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 22:39 (thirteen years ago)

forgot to peep those the other day when I ran in for turkey meatballs and triple berry o's :(

Delbert Botts, D.D.S. (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)

loving the monkey business trek mix. wish i had a "trek" to eat it on!

thumbs.db (get bent), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

the bistro salad with kale, edamame, etc. is fantastic.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

lime floe is good but caribbean floe is best

take the claude bolling (get bent), Monday, 25 June 2012 03:43 (thirteen years ago)

love sweet potatoes, love gnocchi, the sweet potato gnocchi was pretty nasty

Charles de Gaul (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 08:16 (thirteen years ago)

Ditto, ditto, and ditto. I warned against it upthread.

nickn, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 08:18 (thirteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

the "hummus salad dressing" is really just tahini sauce and/but is v. good. i bought it as a dip for their falafel, which are otherwise a little dry.

SHOCKING THE ACER ARENA (get bent), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 02:27 (thirteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

how are their tortilla chips?

the mandy moorhols (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

Not a TJ's branded product, but deal alert -- they're selling variety packs of Butternuts Beers (Porkslap Pale Ale etc.) for like $15 a 12-pack. Surprisingly good in spite of corny packaging and names.

bert yansh (Hurting 2), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

btw I assume that's just NY area TJ's, since they're a local brewer.

bert yansh (Hurting 2), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck PA and NJ liquor laws so fucking hard tbh
