HBO adaptation of Game of Thrones - will this be just for nerds? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

The last episode was probably my favourite of the series to date.

not to get too caught up in book vs movie but I have to say I'm really disappointed that they didn't develop the relationship between Hound/Sansa more. That moment with them last night read much more awkward and out of the blue than it should have.

I've had a hard time distinguishing between "Gold cloaks" and "King's guard" this season.

Gold Cloaks have those metal baseball caps with a chain veil, Kingsguards have full armor (minus the helmets) which have white floral patterns.

what perhaps made the "fear of fire" thing a bit difficult to parse was that the hound didn't act as though he was fleeing in fear. he just slowly lumbered off. we're used to more dramatic displays of terror when it's supposed to be present.

yeah srsly everyone on this thread all THE HOUND IS SCARED OF FIRE LOL DUUH, what was depicted in this scene was the hound recognizing the futility of war, it was sparked by seeing a soldier despite being totally on fire charge at him, he saw himself in that guy looked at the tragic absurdity of the situation and was all f this noise im so out of here - fear may have entered into it but what we saw was the hound having a change of heart

hm, yeah, i hadn't thought of it that way. i guess it was set up by that confrontation with Bronn.

All interpretations of fictional work are valid, except this one.

I worry about zombies, though the dead horse looked awesome. White Walkers (I guess that's what they were?) with their ice swords (I guess they were ice swords?) looked fucking awesome though. I hope Samwise is okay.

Dany's middling arc this season paid off with all that dragon shit being awesome as hell.

Not sure I really understood what's going on with Arya.

Brienne was the shit. Spin-off with her and Jamie wandering the roads please.

Don't care about Robb but hope somehow the inbred creepy Twins guy causes a ruckus.

Theon's scene with the Maester was fantastic. Little ol' Alfie stopped smoking we and really delivered there.

I want to know who the hell torched Winterfell.

man book 2 is the only one I've really read and the thing I was looking forward to most was the house of the undying and it got like six minutes of screen time and left out most of the creepy vignettes that I was hoping for.

yeah, the house of the undying was definitely a bit anticlimactic after all the buildup. did like the white walkers, though. good episode, overall.

i'm wondering about the size of winterfell these days. i originally got the idea that it was a pretty substantial settlement, but ever since, it's seemed like a courtyard or two and a couple buildings. it's seemed especially tiny in the last few episodes. then when the kids were leaving, it looked MASSIVE, like it would house thousands. how could a city that big possibly be held by 20 men, even with its army away?

and who the hell burned it? where are the 500 northmen?

yeah... i mean the northern soldiers were under orders to let any of theon's soldiers go free if they surrendered, and they had his body with them, so it's not hard to imagine them getting away easily. otoh, if they burned the city before leaving, you'd think that would complicate things. idk.

That's a cliffhanger, apparently. I both appreciate how they dealt with it but am also understanding that it's a bit confusing.

I don't know anything about the House of the Undying in the books, but I thought it was great here. The portent of the Red Keep broken down and overrun with the Winter, the walk north of the Wall. And the fact that, somehow magically, Dany got a genuinely moving scene with Drogo that gave her character something to achieve this season other than WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS. Also the Dragons kicking ass was awesome and fuiud.

Yeah, while that House of the Undying scene didn't meet my expectations based on the book, I thought it was really enjoyable and made up for her mediocre shitshow all season.

And by shitshow, I just mean that until last night hers was easily the least enjoyable plotline and I had almost dreaded her scenes. But, man, that was a pretty sweet payoff.

Locking Ducksauce and Hollyoaks girl in the vault was cold.

Thought the White Walkers looked amazing.

Lots of moving scenes this episode - Luwin dying, Dany and Drogo, Tyrion and Shae.

I wonder if people who haven't read the books entirely got what was going on under the surface of Jon and Qhorin's fight.

My wife didn't initially, but she pretty much figured it out by the end of the episode.

yeah that was kind of awkwardly handled in that qhorin's line that explains his plan was way back in episode 8

so am I gonna have to wait another 8 months until this is out on DVD or what? I want to see it now!
