the show is giving many signs that ginsburg (and relations with don) is going to have many of the same characteristics as early peggy-don, but it will be interesting to see what's different -- ginsburg's leftism and the chip on his shoulder most obviously
― goole, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 16:29 (twelve years ago) link
Ginsburg is a leftist?
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 16:33 (twelve years ago) link
no he's an alien

re: Peggy spinoff show = THAT GIRL!
yeah, basically. but more office-centric.
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 16:35 (twelve years ago) link
i mean to qualify that, it's vague, but i mean his basic contempt for all of their clients
― goole, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 16:36 (twelve years ago) link
I think another difference is that he feels like he could take Don's job someday
― dmr, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 16:41 (twelve years ago) link
yeah he seems resentful of wealth/ostentation, suspicious of power... kinda ambiguous politically but attitudes that are more commonly associated with the left I guess
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 16:42 (twelve years ago) link
Remember too that Roger (eventually) warned Peggy after she hired Ginsberg that his own last big hire was Pete.
― Hare Kinsey (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:13 (twelve years ago) link
I don't recall Pete and Roger ever getting along, I wonder how that happened
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:15 (twelve years ago) link
Roger and Don went to his apartment at the end of season 3.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:32 (twelve years ago) link
Although even that's not true since strictly speaking Roger hired Ken after that, but whatever.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:34 (twelve years ago) link
Just realized Don throwing money at Peggy twice in this ep - once literally - neither times she takes it.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:38 (twelve years ago) link
I meant how was Pete initially hired at Sterling Cooper. In S1 he's already a junior account man iirc
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:50 (twelve years ago) link
just catching up here but dudes how great and perfect was that kinsey thing, i expected rejoicing in this thread, cant believe yall had to ruin the fun

I totally rejoiced! who didn't rejoice?

whoever said upthread that the "nobody likes me" speech really tied together a great character arc for him was OTM
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:19 (twelve years ago) link
there was a lot of grumbling about it it seems

I enjoyed what a pathetic washup of a Hare Krishna he was, esp in the diner sitting there with his facepain looking all forlorn.

facepaint

lol

why wouldn't lane be a 'tax exile' like everybody else? maybe cos his kids are still in school there (that was a plot point, right?)
yeah you have a point about this. I believe his kids are still back there (we've never seen them, I don't think?). I don't pretend to understand the arcane workings of Great Britain what with all they're chuntering and blootering wot wot
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:24 (twelve years ago) link
"I meant how was Pete initially hired at Sterling Cooper."
I think the allude in Season 1 to the familial connection playing a big part in it.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link
ya but also, the humiliation of being an exile, i mean, never ever
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link
esp with his wife
i mean if he couldn't stomach asking to borrow money, there's no way he would be up for being exiled from his country
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago) link
ha well i admit to knowing nothing about what being a tax exile really entailed. my general sense is that the rolling stones did it and then later put out steel wheels and got knighted.
― goole, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:37 (twelve years ago) link
Bee Gees did it twice (UK *and* the US)
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:38 (twelve years ago) link
Slade did it, but at the same time they just stopped making so much money.
― Hare Kinsey (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:43 (twelve years ago) link
layne had that phone call with some sort of school master about Nigel's (or some other britisher name) tuition. Think the cost of that education happening in england is one of the things making it hard for him to keep his head above water.
― mizzell, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:45 (twelve years ago) link
i admittedly dont know much about it myself, but it seems to me that being a disgraced tax outlaw would be something unthinkable to someone of lane's station in that era.
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link
I am officially cursing this thread for bringing back memories of Steel Wheels.

― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link
fuck, this episode was grim. i need to go take a shower after watching this shit, damn. totally great tho. i wonder what will happen with peggy, i.e. how much of what happens to her will we see. i don't think this is a show that would be scared to let a main character disappear.
― zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago) link
I'm confident Peggy is one character that won't happen to.
― I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link
ya it would be pretty insane if that was the last we saw of her. i doubt it.
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link
yeah I doubt it too. Chaugh using her to get back at Draper seems inevitable.
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:19 (twelve years ago) link
c'mon, there would totally be a shit ton of press if elizabeth moss left the show

"disappear" a bit strong. but like yeah, i could see her being a lot less prominent.
― zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link
what if the character of peggy disappeared from the show, but "peggy" appeared as a sort of glowing floating little angel that sat on don's shoulder and gave him guidance in times of crisis?
that way, elisabeth moss would still be on the show, and there wouldn't be any press about it.
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:26 (twelve years ago) link
would need to be paired with a "bad" peggy
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:28 (twelve years ago) link
that can be Sal!

this kind of sucks b/c interactions b/t don and peggy were a highlight of this show. but you know.

OR MAYBE THIS ENTIRE LAST EPISODE WAS A DREAM
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:37 (twelve years ago) link
I don't feel that Peggy was as instrumental in this season, so her character being reduced in prominence would make sense.
Time for Ginsburg to shine!
― homosexual II, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:40 (twelve years ago) link
chaough said that his hire of peggy was as much about getting the dirt on don as her work itself. if she left to 'get away' from don, there's plenty of disappointment to play around with there.

also isnt' that guy who hired her the dorky friend from Adventures in Babysitting? I'm too lazy to google atm
