GIRLS talk (the Lena Dunham thread)

everyone i don't think we can have a sensible conversation about whether or not you like adam just because he was all sweet in the last episode. a couple of weeks ago he was having weird picking-up-children-on-the-street conversations during sex & on sunday he was all OH SHUCKS NUTHIN MUCH JUST THOUGHT I'D CALL YOU. we are still pretty malleable.

he is a real good character though. just reading a book in an undecorated apartment by lamplight, or always making something with a powertool.

this last ep was great, anyhow.

It's not even the conversation (though it doesn't help), so much as the "This is just something I'm doing during sex, without any thought of how you might feel about it or how it might affect you (or memory of it afterwards)", like Hannah was just there to add texture to his wanking.

I like Adam!

This was really great. Impressing more with each episode, even if it's got some rough bits. Some good lines. I liked Tako.

Well, sure, it's a shitty thing to call someone.

It would be nice if this were the jumping-off point for some sort of Jessa development - mainly that she realises her actions are (THEME) selfish and actually do have an effect on those around her. Weed dad was a total saddo, and the 'tease' line confirmed the kind of guy he is (although really he's just a saddo trying at something he's not and failing so the 'tease' comment was probably less earnest and more a go-to), but he got decked by the crustie punks just because of Jessa's shitty actions. And nobody ever calls her out on them.

oh btw the title cards for this show are great and this weeks was extra special

x-post - I just meant that in general she knew that he had the hots for her and was playing up to it since they met. He was angry at her and said a shitty thing but people often do say shitty things when they're angry. I never really had any sympathy for him at all though. What is that guy from anyway? He looks v familiar to me.

Caught up on the whole series yesterday (other than tonight's episode, of course). Adam seems like a guy who probably just had a lot of cybersex in his teens and grew from there. I really like that he's turning in to the love interest--the perfect thing that a serial TV series can do unexpectedly.

There should be an episode where the gals watch Girls using Hannah's parents' HBOGO password.

Yeah, 'Donal Logue Impersonator's Troupe' is nuts!!! James LeGros is total indie-flick royalty (Near Dark, Drugstore Cowboy, Living in Oblivion, Safe, The Rapture, like 5 million other 90s Sundance touchstones)!

Ahhhh, thank you! I tried looking him up on the ep list before and couldn't find him. He's totally one of those guys that you're like, "Hey, it's that guy!" but can't quite place. For me, at least.

He'll always be "sensitive pony tail guy" from Singles to me.

Hilarious episode. Crusty punk confrontation, accidental crack smoking, non-sexual groin massage, Tako with a K, bike in the cab close, just great stuff.

I wish I could remember Tako's exact line about her name. "It's not a big deal, but it's really important to me" or something to that effect.

"It's not that big a deal, it's just something that's important to me" is the exact line. "It's just that I can usually tell when someone thinks it's with a 'C'" hahaha.

I still don't understand what is supposedly horrible about the main characters. Someone please explain.

They're self-centered and whiny. Also they are white and come from a middle-class kind of privilege.

tho ilx has a tendency to be weirdly judgmental of fictional characters based on some sort of set of moral absolutes.

I'm all of those things too! Doesn't seem that horrible.
