ps megalolz at someone voting in a genre he explicitly doesn't care for dismissing one of the genre's acknowledged classics as "a silly little horror film."

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly horror films. But I look around me and see that it isn't so.

/I think I've told this story before but my college roommate has a super obsessive mother who rented Eraserhead one weekend and made the entire family watch it 10 times in quick succession. She also painted Disintegration-inspired murals all over their bathroom after my roommate brought home copies of my Cure albums.

An ex co-worker was really into SJP, to the point of having her picture as his desktop wallpaper on his work computer. One day he was like "So, what do you think about SJP? Don't you think she's hot?" and I was "no way, she looks like a horse!"

I still don't believe I had this IRL conversation, but it happened:

I was talking to a girl I didn't know about "Friends". Basically, that I thought it cool that this comedy series was such a big hit even though all of the main people in it were basically unsympathetic characters really.
At which point she said "You know, a lot of my friends say I'm like Rachael. What do you think?"
I said "um, .. yeah I can see that!"

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Hey Sarah Jessica Parker, why the long face?"

pplains, Thursday, 24 May 2012 15:38 (twelve years ago) link

Her face has a long jawline that causes observers to make the comparison between her and a horse.

it had no horse-d'oeuvres (horses are a type of quadroped served in french restaurants)

Q: What is a show that could be made into a movie starring Sara Jessica Parker?
A: Mr. Ed! (as a person who looks like a horse but is also capable of talking, Sara Jessica Parker would reduce the need for a special effects budget to make the titular horse appear to "talk")

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 24 May 2012 15:56 (twelve years ago) link

The problem is that Sarah Jessica Parker has been in too many awful movies lately. She should learn to say "nay" to some of these roles.

I thought the idea was that they were making fun of how stock, terrible, and/or sexist this joke is, through increasingly awkward, forced and overcooked linguistic contortions. Got a pass from me and I'm normally the sensitive one in the room I think?

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 24 May 2012 15:58 (twelve years ago) link

this is a common ilx thing. it's totally normal. ilxors get stuck in a pattern of either swapping puns in to common song lyrics, or making a string of bizarro jokes. i think it just needs to be rebooted?
