I will add that unlike the lyrical teen fantasy Chronicle or Neveldine-Taylor’s daring Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance which addressed life, death, morality, Marvel’s The Avengers has little to say other than “Buy me!”

ha, I thought I was the only person who dug ghost rider: SoV. a tough sell after the first but it was pretty damn good.

i guess this movie's probably all talked out but: this was pretty much what i expected, dumb but pretty fun. it could have been just hulk and iron man and would have been just as good, if not better. i liked the captain america movie but he and thor are basically the same character, both humorless and upright and anachronistic and without much in the way of powers other than being strong. hawkeye and black widow were totally pointless. i like cobie smulders getting a chance to break out of how i met your mother, though she didn't really have a character here.

i mentioned this on facebook but my favorite LOL Loki moment was him giving his taunting speech to a crowd of Germans ... in English (who all mysteriously know what "kneel!" means).

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 01:27 (fourteen years ago)

thor was the only one of these fucking movies i haven't seen so i was kinda pissed that the main bad guy/plot came from that movie because i didn't know what was going on when he was suddenly in space talking to an alien on a meteor

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 01:34 (fourteen years ago)

thor was where the aliens taught the germans english

bark ruffalo (latebloomer), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 01:36 (fourteen years ago)

thor & cap had two of my favorite lines, cant see at all how it'd be better without them

Hungry4Ass, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 01:36 (fourteen years ago)

There's a powerful scene in Thor where the Asgardians show Superman II and there's a closeup of young Loki watching General Zod while the music rumbles ominously and Loki nods.

Thor is a lot of things but "humorless" is not any of them! (cf. "He's adopted.")

puny god was drowned out by all the laughter the first time i saw it, only caught it the second time around
he's adopted also got massive laughs both times

i was just so gleeful seeing the avengers on screen as that was one of my fave childhood comics

actually feel like i need to do a proper write up on the experience

just saw this crazy link where some put together every avengers cover together

saw again. still awesome. cobie smulders smoulders. Thor's p good might catch his movie.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Saturday, 26 May 2012 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

Thor's movie is pretty meh. Seems like it's all filmed on the same four square block set, with no clear villain (snooze giant robot), albeit plenty of villainy.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 26 May 2012 23:29 (fourteen years ago)

otm about the set. it was very weird.

Is there a precedent in the comics for the huge percentage of redheads on the bridge of the helicarrier?

how's life, Sunday, 27 May 2012 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

nick fury likes redheads, nothing weird there

SHIELD's pro-redhead hiring stance I fully support.

some dude, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

i really liked that thor seemed like it was filmed on an intersection

thomp, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 13:51 (fourteen years ago)

This was fun. Too long, dragged a few times, but fun. As has been pointed out many times in this thread, Ruffalo had the stand out performance.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

It's actually a Ruffalo/Downey stealth sequel to Zodiac.

mh, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

Finally got around to seeing it and I didn't really dig it that much; maybe I've become cynical in my 26 years but dizzying action scenes and dialogue that is almost exclusively A) lame one-liners or B) foreshadowing something that happens 5 minutes later in the movie. It actually reminded me a lot of the Expendibles, more impressive visually but not as funny. I counted maybe two lines that didn't seem incredibly scripted (and I think both of them were RDJs!) but I suppose that maybe I'm looking into this too much as the last oh say 90 minutes of it was just one big action sequence that got more ridiculous and improbable as time went on. I get that all these guys are smart dudes but their ability to formulate the perfect plan or to understand incredibly complex technology despite getting repeatedly whacked in the head was kinda irritating. But I give the movie 1 zillion points for not going too far down the Jeremy Renner/ScarJo dumb romance story which would have killed everything.

All that said I think this was probably the greatest visual spectical since say Spiderman2 so that counts for something

frogbs, Saturday, 2 June 2012 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

"incredibly scripted" could be a way to compliment dialogue, actually

the 'awesome like a hot dog' bit?

kel ler/pharmacists (some dude), Sunday, 3 June 2012 00:58 (fourteen years ago)

No, the one about how a lot of people think his show is completely improvised but in fact it is very tightly scripted.
