Different class altogether. In a few years, Owen will be just be some guy who scored a lot of goals, like Les Ferdinand or Bob Latchford or som'b'dy.

sir les was way better than drogba grumble grumble

I feel bad for Owen because I always liked him, but he's such an easy target for some reason. He always gives the impression of being incredibly slow-witted. I'm trying to imagine going for a few drinks with him, and failing. I bet Fowler'd be more fun.

i wonder what owen's career would be like now if rafa hadnt refused him after madrid (and if he hadnt had the wc injury obv)

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:19 (fourteen years ago)

It's quite sad reading him say in a recent interview that his best years were his teens, and he's been operating on 2/3rds power ever since because of a botched hamstring operation.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:21 (fourteen years ago)

lol crooksy goes for the black striker every single time no matter what, if it was a little finish he'd have said ian wright darren bent

otm there though

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:23 (fourteen years ago)

Sturridge had 3 goals since Jan iirc. And NEVER passes the fucking ball.

― pandemic, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:19 (43 minutes ago) Bookmark

what's defoe like at passing? oh yeah wait it's completely irrelevant.

Bollocks!
Sturridge plays on the right most of the time. Knowing when to pass the ball pretty important imo.

pandemic, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:23 (fourteen years ago)

once again, he is a pure striker plonked out on the wing

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:25 (fourteen years ago)

I have a book of all Tottenham players and the Crooksy entry begins by recalling that someone called him "BLACK MAGIC IN THE BOX".

the pinefox, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:27 (fourteen years ago)

Fjortoft, however, does have his doubts about Solskjaer accepting the job as he said: "Not sure Solskjaer will go for this. Champions League with Molde and always one who likes to end what he is starting. But hey! It's Premier League."

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:29 (fourteen years ago)

Martin Tyler should adopt the last four words as his new catchphrase

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

Peak period Fowler, Shearer, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Owen, Cole, even fucking Ian Wright would be able to walk straight into the current first XI without even being particularly challenged. Every single one of them. Chris Sutton in his Norwich or Blackburn days probably wouldn't have much trouble either.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

Collymore

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:40 (fourteen years ago)

Owen, lost pace or not, basically shanked his own career by being too lazy/egotistical to go to a club where he cd've played regularly. fuck the self-regarding cunt imo.

Vermicious Knid A (Noodle Vague), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:41 (fourteen years ago)

He went to Newcastle and was shite.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

Did Owen and Shearer ever play together at Newcastle? Shearer's presence was supposed to be the big persuasive factor but I don't think they did.

the pinefox, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:45 (fourteen years ago)

it kinda seems that way, but: fag-end houllier liverpool were the pits and then madrid come calling, what you gonna do? and then newcastle he didnt have a single other option

united was a cunt's move tho yes

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:45 (fourteen years ago)

Celtic next, according to various Internet crackpots.

Djibril Citté (onimo), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

I enjoyed his quote that the Championship wasn't really an option

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

i was thinking specifically of the United move tbh, he was crocked a lot at Newcastle wasn't he?

Vermicious Knid A (Noodle Vague), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

oh hang on, not according to his brochure

?

Djibril Citté (onimo), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:49 (fourteen years ago)

owen said that

it looks like something rupert the bear would wear (Algerian Goalkeeper), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:50 (fourteen years ago)

He played loads at Newcastle, especially in the last couple of years, he just wasn't very good. I doubt he exactly got much service in that team but still.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:50 (fourteen years ago)

xp i know - it was a thread title suggestion

Djibril Citté (onimo), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:51 (fourteen years ago)

Owen scored 1-in-3 in the two Newcastle seasons he played a decent number of games in. Round about what you'd expect from a slightly-past-his-prime player in a shite team.

Djibril Citté (onimo), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

Yup, that'll do nicely.

Need to wait 'til the 4th CL spot is sewn up though.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

but it's not really about whether he was much cop or not, the point is after Newcastle he cd've gone to a club that wd've more or less guaranteed him a first team start, but he decided he'd rather warm a bench at Old Trafford and chat gee-gees with sralex

Vermicious Knid A (Noodle Vague), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

Are you quoting directly from the brochure now?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:53 (fourteen years ago)

that shd go in the new one, yes

Vermicious Knid A (Noodle Vague), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

his total is 30 in 79 over four seasons so a decent return when he was fit

lol IK I was just thinking that :)

Djibril Citté (onimo), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

owen would barely have been a guaranteed starter anywhere after newcastle, he was done in even then

iirc it was between hull and ynahtid, and crap teams like hull play 4-5-1 so often these days that he'd have been a sub to daniel cousin or marlon king or someone half the time

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

"You won't believe it Arsene but this pen's run out too"

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

No one else would have paid Owen's wages, and he'd have demanded them to go to a team he considered beneath him. At United he's basically on a pay-as-you-play as far as I know, so it's a risk-free call for them.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 18 May 2012 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

'ILF precovers the Michael Owen brochure' would be incredible, if I had any faith we wouldn't actually get closed down this time.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 12:00 (fourteen years ago)

"If Robin decides to leave, that means maybe next year it will be Walcott and the next year maybe it will be Wilshere."

gotta say i'm loving paddy vieira these days

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

whilst i accept the logic of the counter-arguments, i will be sticking with my "Michael Owen is a cunt" perspective

Vermicious Knid A (Noodle Vague), Friday, 18 May 2012 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

vieira is a cunt for that

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Friday, 18 May 2012 12:03 (fourteen years ago)

It'd be pretty low of Wilshere to leave just as he's returning to fitness

Ismael Klata, Friday, 18 May 2012 12:03 (fourteen years ago)

"It will be as difficult as when they lost Fabregas or Nasri," said Vieira. "Then you knew that Robin was behind. If they lose Robin, who is behind? Of course it is going to be difficult to keep or to convince Robin.

"It was a shock for them to lose Nasri and Fabregas and if they lose Van Persie, it will be a drama. If Robin decides to leave, that means maybe next year it will be Walcott and the next year maybe it will be Wilshere. It will be difficult for Arsenal to keep all their top players. But if they keep Robin, they will send out a positive message to all the clubs around them."

With that in mind, Vieira, a former Arsenal captain, is surprised that his old club have not already resolved Van Persie's future. Last summer, Arsenal's plans in the transfer market were disrupted by holding on to Fabregas and Nasri for as long as possible, which played a major part in their shambolic start to the season.

"I think that is something they should have closed a long time ago but Arsenal don't need me to tell them that," Vieira added. "It is really difficult to find a player with the quality of Van Persie with one year left on his contract, so it is difficult to understand."

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Friday, 18 May 2012 12:04 (fourteen years ago)

Telling Arsenal what they don't need to be told

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Friday, 18 May 2012 12:04 (fourteen years ago)

no closure of this thread til spurs get closure on cl spot.

Sutton at norwich would make england team? Then why not current norwich form striker?

If Robin decides to leave, that means maybe next year it will be Walcott and the next year maybe it will be Wilshere.

Can't see City wanting all of them.

r|t|c, Friday, 18 May 2012 12:08 (fourteen years ago)

wenger doesnt seem to get due respect from his ex-players sometimes

the 90s defender cunts are the same

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Friday, 18 May 2012 12:10 (fourteen years ago)

never understood them, tho? wanted the headers, the scrappers, the tacklers out and never replaced them like-for-like

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Friday, 18 May 2012 12:15 (fourteen years ago)

why not Sutton on Celtic form? He was pretty damn great then.
