― single-issue white nonhipster (country matters), Thursday, 15 January 2009 23:19 (seventeen years ago)
Because they've changed the design of all the birds since the first one?

Yeah, good timing:
Airbus is preparing to offer incoming US president Barack Obama a special A380 superjumbo to replace the ageing Air Force One Boeing 747 jumbo jet, it emerged today.

Ha, was just coming to post that!
― ailsa, Thursday, 15 January 2009 23:31 (seventeen years ago)
this was not an A380. not that the type of the plane or the manufacturer was relevant in this accident.

Yeah essentially that is what i want a pilot to look like.

i could see him playing a keytar in a bar band somewhere ...
― Mad Vigorish (Eisbaer), Friday, 16 January 2009 02:27 (seventeen years ago)
michelle malkin posted this story on her site and commenters were basically thanking God he didn't lose his pilot's license to affirmative action, zinging him for being a visiting scholar at berkeley, and saying 'god wasn't his co-pilot, god today took flying lessons from him.'
― shook pwns (omar little), Friday, 16 January 2009 02:27 (seventeen years ago)
If you go to http://www4.passur.com/lga.html and search to about 15:26pm, you'll see the flight. He gets up to around 3400 feet, and then makes an immediate 180 trying to get back to La Guardia. Seeing that was impossible, he headed for the Hudson, and very nearly collided with a Eurocopter flying north at 1000 feet along the river. The copter pilot dodged out of the way, then circled back to where the plane hit the water.

Godsquad invading comments boards everywhere Thanking Him for saving these people and helping the pilot. Would have saved Him a lot of bother if He had just moved the birds out of the way.

― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 16 January 2009 13:38 (seventeen years ago)
ya i mean if there had been fatalities then major news story sure but the british papers have this all over the first 4-5-6 pages when actually the entire story would be best served by youtube publication and sully.jpg alone
― single-issue white nonhipster (country matters), Friday, 16 January 2009 13:40 (seventeen years ago)
looked to be only about 700ft between the jet and the helicopter o_O
tht coulda been bad
― cozwn, Friday, 16 January 2009 13:46 (seventeen years ago)
it's a pretty big deal lj, all air crashes are pretty big news
an air crash on american soil, in new york going to be doubly big news
― cozwn, Friday, 16 January 2009 13:47 (seventeen years ago)
dude there was a fatal crash in NYC (200 or so dead) about 10 months after 9/11 and once they established it wasn't terrorist there was an eerie media silence
― single-issue white nonhipster (country matters), Friday, 16 January 2009 13:50 (seventeen years ago)
and it's insincere to pretend that the british media treat all air crashes equally, aeroflot send one down seemingly every other week and sometimes it gets a leading article on page 7
― single-issue white nonhipster (country matters), Friday, 16 January 2009 13:51 (seventeen years ago)

― single-issue white nonhipster (country matters), Friday, 16 January 2009 13:55 (seventeen years ago)
it's definitely a big story but except for occasional weather updates they spent literally the entire first hour of the today show on this story
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 16 January 2009 13:59 (seventeen years ago)
i don't know i think the fact that an airliner full of people crashed in a fucking river and everyone survived is worth taking a day off from 'news of importance' to celebrate.

Great photos, but the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the one of the aircraft listing/sinking was wether or not there were any pets in the cargo hold.Comment by God Bless any Pets as Well - January 16, 2009 at 11:11 am
