I fucking adore Achewood -- got hooked after reading The Great Outdoor Fight story last winter. Ray and Roast Beef in particular are unsettlingly real to me, for internet cartoon cats. LOVED the strip a few days ago where they found the guy who invented Comic Sans.

There was recently a interview with Onstad in the Onion AV Club and they printed the first publically-known photo of him. My first thought was that he resembled some past minor Achewood character, like he had anonymously drawn himself in. But I can't recall which character.

You should read his blogs, he complains about kids in much more expensive houses than his sleeping soundly knowing their parents invented the Google color scheme.

I love how little his cats are anthropomorphized, ie they have the weird gangly legs, long torso, and big thighs of a cat. Inventing the whole Underground thing to explain how they get to Subway is pretty genius, too.

Onstad looks like if Emeril and Spongebath had a third member of their cadre who was even more into the Tenmen than the others.

Clay has been pushing Achewood on me for years but it took this one to get me to finally read the whole thing last weekend. It is better in large doses. That particular strip is insanely great, however.

I feel like if I subbed to this I'd also want the in-universe material, as I used to love the old blogs, etc

I know some people think Achewood is corny and it fell off towards the end but the peak stuff was just wonderful, hilarious and beautiful

I've been a John Allison supporter on Patreon for a few years but he's gone off in directions that don't interest me, so I'm going to shift that support to Onstad and see how it goes.
