Yo mama so crass, she smokes a cigar and eats shrimp cocktail on the bus!
Yo mama so grouchy, she slaps the doorknob before she turns it!
Yo mama got such bad breath, dogs get calories by huffin' her mouth!

(re: beef's aibo, weldon...)

Pat: Well, filthy creatures ain't allowed in the house. Come along.

Beef: You dis my dog you fluff my hog

Pat: WHAT?! What did you just say to me?

Beef: I said that if you speak against Weldon then you are about to enter a world where the only activity that exists is tasting my hog

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

ath (ath), Thursday, 7 September 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

looking back a few weeks reveals that pat is totally taking on this gladdington's curse thing and basically looking just like his dad, simon. minus a little facial hair.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

i wonder how nice pete feels about all that

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 7 September 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

ath (ath), Thursday, 7 September 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

EMOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Thursday, 7 June 2007 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

The whole bit about beef getting married... maybe... has been grebt.

kenan, Thursday, 7 June 2007 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

Aw thats sweet. Despite the Sting, lol.

Trayce, Thursday, 7 June 2007 03:32 (nineteen years ago)

My girlfriend send me this one in an email the other day and said something along the lines of it probably inspiring me to make a similar list regarding our relationship. SHOULD I BE AFRAID BROS?

Clay, Thursday, 7 June 2007 03:53 (nineteen years ago)

I am actually a bit choked up! Glad it's finally happened.

Oh lord, I'm talking like this about a comic? I've been reading this too long!!

Clay, you should just reply "Why you even got to do a thing?" She'll leave you alone I'm sure...

kv_nol, Thursday, 7 June 2007 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

TOMORROW: Lyle pukes so hard it makes a football go three feet

TOMBOT, Thursday, 7 June 2007 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

I stopped reading this after my computer died and I lost all of my bookmarks and forgot to add this again... and now I can't remember where I was! It's been like 6 months though... long way to go. I fucking LOVED the three-day fight though

Will M., Thursday, 7 June 2007 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

marriage. the great indoor fight.

river wolf, Thursday, 7 June 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

my fave thing from this whole marriage thing might be beef's fortune from chevy ford wo's:

"the lady is the mountain behind the tiny flaming fishing cabin of the man"

totally sweet editorial portrait

El Tomboto, Thursday, 12 July 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)

Classy!

I fucking adore Achewood -- got hooked after reading The Great Outdoor Fight story last winter. Ray and Roast Beef in particular are unsettlingly real to me, for internet cartoon cats. LOVED the strip a few days ago where they found the guy who invented Comic Sans.

xero, Thursday, 12 July 2007 19:21 (eighteen years ago)

HE WANTS TO TASTE THE FUCKING CURB!

xero, Thursday, 12 July 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

that is the best thing I have ever read about Australia.

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha

electricsound, Thursday, 12 July 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

looking back a few weeks reveals that pat is totally taking on this gladdington's curse thing and basically looking just like his dad, simon. minus a little facial hair.

Also I like that his gay dad's name is Simon Reynolds

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

Holy shit why did I never notice this very important bit of information before

en i see kay, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

The guy who writes this strip is my friend's cousin. My friend has a T-shirt. He doesn't let being related to a celebrity go to his head.

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

Onstad is a celebrity?

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

Achewood may be the best thing in my life right now. <3<3<3 forever

Abbott, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

I was, you know, kidding (about the celebrity thing. My friend really is related to him, though).

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

He's a celebrity to me, forever.

Jordan, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

I have probably a half-dozen achewood shirts. I should buy more.

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

There was recently a interview with Onstad in the Onion AV Club and they printed the first publically-known photo of him. My first thought was that he resembled some past minor Achewood character, like he had anonymously drawn himself in. But I can't recall which character.

http://www.avclub.com/content/files/images/Chris-Onstad.article.jpg

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

He looks like a bro.

Jordan, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

no way! bros don't have super circular heads, wear purple turtlenecks, rock Lennon glasses, and hang out in front of gothic architecture. his posture might be sending mixed signals but there ain't no way this guy is anything but a geek.

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

You should read his blogs, he complains about kids in much more expensive houses than his sleeping soundly knowing their parents invented the Google color scheme.

Abbott, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

I love how little his cats are anthropomorphized, ie they have the weird gangly legs, long torso, and big thighs of a cat. Inventing the whole Underground thing to explain how they get to Subway is pretty genius, too.

Abbott, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

Onstad looks like if Emeril and Spongebath had a third member of their cadre who was even more into the Tenmen than the others.

Dan I., Wednesday, 29 August 2007 01:51 (eighteen years ago)

casuistry to thread

Stevie D, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

Clay has been pushing Achewood on me for years but it took this one to get me to finally read the whole thing last weekend. It is better in large doses. That particular strip is insanely great, however.

Casuistry, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

did the big book ever come out?

dicbo=v2-ubswizzb&hrt (stevie), Monday, 8 May 2023 21:34 (three years ago)

I feel like if I subbed to this I'd also want the in-universe material, as I used to love the old blogs, etc

dicbo=v2-ubswizzb&hrt (stevie), Monday, 8 May 2023 21:35 (three years ago)

I know some people think Achewood is corny and it fell off towards the end but the peak stuff was just wonderful, hilarious and beautiful

dicbo=v2-ubswizzb&hrt (stevie), Monday, 8 May 2023 21:36 (three years ago)

the book question is mentioned here: https://www.theverge.com/23713940/achewood-chris-onstad-return-patreon-ai-raybot

sounds like the tumult of having the possible animated series be canceled followed by a shake-up at the publisher meant it didn't happen

mh, Monday, 8 May 2023 21:39 (three years ago)

thanks for the link mh.

yeah did not come away from that piece feeling super optimistic

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:11 (three years ago)

I've been a John Allison supporter on Patreon for a few years but he's gone off in directions that don't interest me, so I'm going to shift that support to Onstad and see how it goes.

The Terroir of Tiny Town (WmC), Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:19 (three years ago)

https://raybot.help was a lot more amusing and Achewood-like than portrayed in the article

mh, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:37 (three years ago)

I note that the twitter thread does mention the short-lived artisanal soda company that Onstad was part of that the recent articles seem to have missed

mh, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:40 (three years ago)

I did start making weird faces when I read this, though

โ€œIโ€™ve had like two jobs for a total of 18 months in my whole life, outside of Achewood. Maybe itโ€™s time to admit, like, This is who I am. And this is what I do.โ€

mh, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 18:42 (three years ago)

Had a huge sense of dread reading that Verge piece that he was suddenly going to declare his interest in NFTs or something, small mercies. Pouring so much cash into a novelty AI thing is just nuts though, what is he thinking.

Have to admit to being gutted to hear about the Penn Ward "Great Outdoor Fight" series that got scrapped, that surely had to've been better than the failed pilot from ages ago.

Pouring so much cash into a novelty AI thing is just nuts though, what is he thinking.

the guy's whole career is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

dicbo=v2-ubswizzb&hrt (stevie), Thursday, 11 May 2023 07:29 (three years ago)

he has assured people giving money to the patreon that none of that money will be going to the raybot ai

xp I feel like the list is kind of him doing a bit, but absolutely not a bit
