oh, just as i'm busy ye start

On loan, iirc- kranjcar, pienaar, corluka, jenas, bassong. Keep first three imo, underutilised but well up to scratch

Not on loan, and deadwood/loseable- bentley, gomes, khumalo, dos santos.

'first team' to be let go- king, gallas

I believe huddlestone to be a quite exceptional talent, pf, and with parker over 30 i don't see any reason to worr over sandro, huddlestone and livermore as good to very good central options.

Youth to come in- naughton, caulker

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 May 2012 11:34 (fourteen years ago)

nelsen can go, saha i'd keep, adebayor i'd make an offer for but not bank-breaking.

We very much need one of yr mythical '20 goal' strikers, a new first team centre half, and cover at left back and right wing (tho walker could be the latter)

Not a huge summer of activity, depending on who might wish to leave.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 May 2012 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

Rose remains cover at LB?
Bentley in theory ought to be cover at RW. If he's not playing, then he has to go. In the name of god, go!

the pinefox, Thursday, 17 May 2012 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

rose could be shipped out, tbh, for all that he gets a game at lb it's not even close to a satisfactory solution- and he's probably a fair bit down the pecking order at lw, if bale, kranjcar, modric, pieenar, vdv are all at the club.

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

right, second time:

After City's first league title in 44 years Nasri told the French television channel TF1: "People at Arsenal tried to make out that I came here for the money. I hope they are watching me now, collecting my Premier League winner's medal. I believe they have not won a trophy for many years now.

"I made the hard choice to come and fight for my place at a big club, and I have proved it correct. I now hope the Arsenal fans can get on with their lives and forget me.

"If all that I was interested in was money, the easiest decision would have been to stay at Arsenal, picking up my money every week and walking into the team. There are many people doing this right now at Arsenal."

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

The higher you build your barriers
The taller I become
The farther you take my rights away
The faster I will run
You can deny me
You can decide to turn your face away
No matter, cos there's....

Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Tho' you're doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh something inside so strong

The more you refuse to hear my voice
The louder I will sing
You hide behind walls of Jericho
Your lies will come tumbling
Deny my place in time
You squander wealth that's mine
My light will shine so brightly
It will blind you
Cos there's something inside so strong

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:14 (fourteen years ago)

something I've said before no doubt:

I know Europa League is very long and arduous - but I really think the THFC policy of playing reserves and being happy to be knocked out has not been good. OK you need to rotate, etc. But this is the 2nd biggest trophy in Europe - it's a huge thing to win (look at how eg Benitez and AVB profiles rose as result) - if THFC are as good as they make out, they should be going out to win the Europa League, seriously, whenever they're in it.

I say this cos it's quite likely we'll be it again next season.

the pinefox, Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:18 (fourteen years ago)

English clubs not taking Europa League seriously is sad but it has been a great competition this year without the Big English clubs 'avin' a go.

Djibril Citté (onimo), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

if likely mean >50% chance, then what is quite likely?

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:21 (fourteen years ago)

Agree with every word, plus it's brilliant.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:21 (fourteen years ago)

i agree, tho i will say that i think the policy of blooding youngsters and giving squad players a run is useful, if used correctly.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:21 (fourteen years ago)

the lineup for next year's EL looks more like a classic uefa cup one

the group stage is still horribly distended though

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:21 (fourteen years ago)

yes, good way to use young players etc - and no reason they should be weak?
yes, it's too long, this is the problem (how did Fulham manage it?)
I think there's just an attitude problem - that it doesn't matter or is good to get knocked out - which is all wrong. I mean the World Cup involves a lot of games but you still try to win them all.

I feel that CFC are likely to win CL. Quite likely - 70%?

the pinefox, Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

pessimistic, pf, i don't make them favourites.

The youngsters and reserves are good enough to get you through the first few stages, those that do well should be in contention for less testing league games and further cup matches, fine- but travelling with a youth team to the quarters or needing a win to say i it (as redknapp has done) always puzzles me- fans think highly of the trophy ime, and a cup run is never bad news, and especially not with a squad our size with players needing experience and others crying out for games.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:35 (fourteen years ago)

Agree!! (except re CL final)

the pinefox, Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:53 (fourteen years ago)

Disappointed Dunski, love it

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:55 (fourteen years ago)

if spurs won the uefa no one, including spurs, would give a monkeys

it only becomes psuedo-well regarded if you happen to topple some already-fallen glamour giant considered above your station, spurs already think of themselves as atleti/bilbao/schalke level

for clubs with a nice big stadium it's a nice little earner on the side i spose but still chickenfeed in prem/cl terms

r|t|c, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:38 (fourteen years ago)

it would still be the pinnacle of harry redknapp's career

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:39 (fourteen years ago)

he will still think it's nothing compared to getting raked at the bernebeu

r|t|c, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:43 (fourteen years ago)

dont want to sound all david bernstein here but redknapp has ideas above his station

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

uefa > domestic cups

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

liar, you know you would take the fa cup over the uefa

r|t|c, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

Well, I wouldn't, but I'm not a Spurs fan.
Cl>>>>>EL>>>>FA>>>>CC as far as cups go

pandemic, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:49 (fourteen years ago)

CL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>EL>>>>>>>>>FA>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CC

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:50 (fourteen years ago)

Well yes but my fingers were tired

pandemic, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:50 (fourteen years ago)

maybe it should be that way but p sure the clubs themselves put the el behind the cc in terms of their priorities.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:51 (fourteen years ago)

this is strictly about spurs and where they're at psychologically, i'm not saying every club would think the same

liverpool would treasure the uefa higher for instance

r|t|c, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

fa cup nowhere near a european trophy, sorry brits

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

think this attitude has lingered from the 07-09 period when english clubs were packing the cl semis every year and the europa league was seen as completely worthless

always worth remembering that italian clubs have won more european cups that english clubs have in the 21st century

english teams have won 1 out of 5 of the last finals that were an english club vs a foreign club

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:55 (fourteen years ago)

xp be your cosmopolitan idealism as it may i guarantee if we polled the general spurs fanbase i would be proved correct

r|t|c, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:55 (fourteen years ago)

In that case, do say Bilbao value EL>>>>CdR?

give me back my 200 dollars (NotEnough), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

totally

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

maybe right now the CdR is a bit more prestigious because madrid and barcelona are so strong that any other club winning it would be a significant achievement

even so, europa league would be worth more, i doubt the bilbao players will be crying nearly as hard if barca schtup them 3-0 like atletico did

navihchkan (nakhchivan), Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

yeah totally

fa cup is probs unique among domestic cups in this regard where even now still there is residual resonance to winning it even as a bauble for big clubs with bigger fish to fry

i would guess the cdr is only a big deal for barca/real if they happen to have to overcome the other to win it

i must stress again i was talking specifically about spurs and their partic sitch, imo cup ranking resists generalisation generally

r|t|c, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:03 (fourteen years ago)

like for fulham winning the uefa would have had 5000 times the value of an fa cup

r|t|c, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

I would much rather win the FA Cup than the Europa League. The old UEFA Cup may have been a different kettle of fish, I remember when getting into that was still seen as an achievement.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:07 (fourteen years ago)

s'always seemed to me that the el is a massive hassle for all clubs until they accidentally find themselves in the latter stages of it.

maybe if it wasn't on a thursday and interfering with weekend game preparation?

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

how is playing thursday- sunday different than wednesday- saturday?

mizzell, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

isn't it in the premier league clubs' interest to take the europa seriously though in order to keep those uefa coefficients healthy? if the english clubs bomb out of europe early won't that affect the number of champions league and europa league places we get in the future?

Chris, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

xpost

I'm not sure playing on thursday is different, but in my head it makes the games feel a bit tacked on, coming at the end of the week when i've pretty much had my fill and am looking to the league again.

anyway, do all el teams play their weekend fixture on sunday? i've never paid that much attention.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

there's the travel to consider for a start

oh yeah italian clubs are starting to think about coefficients now right? don't think the greater good matters until a club's personally deprived, society innit
