i know i'm one of the only people on ilx who watches *how i met your mother* on a regular basis, but did anyone else see the robin sparkles episode? where robin didn't want people to know that she had

sounds plausible to me. i forget - whose wedding did they meet at?

Mordy, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 23:44 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think anything else disqualifies her and I hope that they're planning on wrapping the story up reasonably soon so Victoria would be as good as any other choice. It's totally possible that she could have been a roommate of his ex and could have been at Columbia when he was teaching, right?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 23:48 (fourteen years ago)

oh i forgot about that. no, i don't think that's likely at all. unless they retcon it because they realised that after 7 years they've only written one decent romantic interest for Ted.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 23:54 (fourteen years ago)

i think they'll probably bring her around more and more frequently over the next couple seasons (they just got renewed for two, right?) and kinda weave her back into the story until they feel like it'd be a big payoff for the audience to have this particular character marry him after all these seasons. why else stick her in the finale after that last sendoff episode where they say goodbye at the train? <- i mean, seems very possible to me. i don't think i care one way or another

Mordy, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 00:00 (fourteen years ago)

last sentence grimly summing it all up for me too tbh

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

best theory i've seen: barney's sister

balls, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 00:42 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, they've been stretching it out so far that it's hard to maintain the same level interest (yet we're still watching).

One thing I find weird about this show: at least twice now, Ted has gone over all of his exes, picked out the one that seems like the best option to settle down with, and called her out of the blue to hang out and try to get back together. Do real people really do this??

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:55 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, lames

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:56 (fourteen years ago)

half-invested in this show, half want to tell it to fuck right off

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:58 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think the character Ted is generally about "people really do this irl"

kitty shayme (some dude), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:58 (fourteen years ago)

the Robin reveal was obvious as shit, another pointless romance for Ted, etc.
Barney's stripper girlfriend has been the best character this season

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:59 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think the character Ted is generally about "people really do this irl"

But what are we supposed to think of this? Seems a bit calculated to be a wild romantic gesture.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 04:23 (fourteen years ago)

(they just got renewed for two, right?)

They're only renewed for one more season, S9 isn't confirmed yet. I guess that's why Barney and Robin's wedding happens "somewhere down the road" rather than "in X years time".

Barney's change from man slut to faithful husband would have been 1000X more interesting if this wasn't the *third* time he'd decided to get serious about a girl. We already know that Barney can change so why should I be surprised if he wants to settle down? So I can't really get invested in the Quinn/Barney relationship at all. Not to mention that every relationship on HIMYM is about the chase, once people finally get together the writers run out of ideas for them and they become boring and break up for no reason after a few episodes.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 07:52 (fourteen years ago)

That plus I just don't feel any chemistry between them.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 13:03 (fourteen years ago)

Are we sure that was Barney's wedding?

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 14:50 (fourteen years ago)

We saw in the first ep(?) this season that Barney wanted Ted's opinion on ties. Also NPH tweeted we'd find out who Barney was marrying on Monday afternoon..

I read an article with the creator about some future storylines that disproves a couple theories being tossed around, spoil* yourself if you're interested!

*It actually just refreshes some plot points about the clues he's dropped about the mother

Actually this Wiki elaborates about 'the wedding' Ted meets the mother at

four months pass...

why do i watch this

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 00:43 (thirteen years ago)

Because Marshall is the prettiest girl in the city

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 00:46 (thirteen years ago)

I gave up watching this. I hate the fact that I watched 6 seasons in the hope all would be revealed. I got suckered in and was left feeling a fool.

PatrickBatemanisascarydude (captain rosie), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

you were seriously watching to find out who the mother is!?

s.clover, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 01:10 (thirteen years ago)

we saw the wife tonight but not her face because it was obscured by that yellow umbrella but we know where they meet now

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 01:10 (thirteen years ago)

ted is so so awful. that said, this was just an emo recap episode, so whatevs. german jokes were good tho.

s.clover, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 04:42 (thirteen years ago)

Tom Lennon's accent was kinda weird. Hard to tell if he really speaks German or not based on the little bits there, but he had an Eastern Switzerland/Western Austria thing going on.

Three Word Username, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 08:22 (thirteen years ago)

My husband speaks some German and apparently when Ted first tells him "I know wunderbar" he starts going off about how excited he is to meet an American who speaks German and that he didn't have any friends in America he could really talk to, which I found funny.

FYI: The How I Met Your Mother soundtrack has been released on itunes. It looks pretty awesome.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 03:27 (thirteen years ago)

he's already clearly taking of the baby 24/7, they should have made lily's dad the guardian

Mordy, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 00:27 (thirteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

This show is really going downhill this year.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 8 November 2012 09:25 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that last ep was esp horrible. marshall and lily's thing, like serious, whoever thought that was a fun joke that needed to be repeated over and over deserves a slap or smth. so many failed proposals and running out on your wedding/lg term relationship in this show, i've lost track.

Jibe, Thursday, 8 November 2012 10:18 (thirteen years ago)

i still can't help but watch though. i feel like a drunk the morning after a bender who keeps saying he'll never drink again and ends up puking his guts out the next night.

Jibe, Thursday, 8 November 2012 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

I've been enjoying this season, not finding it any worse than last season.

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 8 November 2012 12:04 (thirteen years ago)

This show has no direction anymore. They all broke up with people after just a few episodes and we hardly ever saw them onscreen, why should I care about any of them? They brought Victoria back after six years only to sacrifice her to the 195857th version of the "Ted needs to stop being friends with Robin" storyline? Then he proposes to her and they break up in the space of half an episode? And the whole thing is forgotten by the next episode? One week Nick is a girly girl, the next week he's a goofball chef who rides a motorcyle, the next week he's dumb. Couldn't they make up their minds?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 13 November 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)

I do like that the unreliable narrator lets them retcon characters all the time. Or I did like that -- now I'm sort of tired of it after the billionth time.

s.clover, Tuesday, 13 November 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

This was pretty frustrating to me too. The Marshall/Lily 'snap sister' thing was probably the best part of that episode, which isn't saying much.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 13 November 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

(Haven't seen last night's yet though.)

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 13 November 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)

OK, wow, NTBT OTM.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 13 November 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)

i haven't watched this for two (?) years, no longer rewarding to follow : /

my dad really likes this show

Yorkshire lass born and bred, that's me, said Katriona's hologram. (thomp), Tuesday, 13 November 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

slash my dad has a thing for alyson hannigan

which is obscurely depressing

Yorkshire lass born and bred, that's me, said Katriona's hologram. (thomp), Tuesday, 13 November 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

I do not now, nor have I ever, fancied Alyson Hannigan.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 13 November 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

This was pretty good.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 06:56 (thirteen years ago)

like i said upthread, i haven't watched this in forever - don't know what's been going on, seems not to matter anyway - but that ending was pretty affecting

j., Wednesday, 19 December 2012 09:09 (thirteen years ago)

i have to say i agreed a 100% with robin's speech to barney... and then she says yes, wtf

Jibe, Wednesday, 19 December 2012 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

Last minute turnaround by Jason Segel means there will be a season 9. Damn.

Gukbe, Saturday, 22 December 2012 02:41 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

They've gotten back on track again after finishing with all those stupid breakups. The "PS I Love You" episode was genius.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

robin sparkles episodes are always a treat.

s.clover, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 06:26 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not sure what accent they were going for. Definitely didn't sound like Vancouver though.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

I think I'm just still watching because I've invested enough time in that I want to find out who the mother is. Looking over this season's episodes, I don't know if I've been that into any of them. I didn't even buy Barney's stupid convoluted proposal scheme.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

Barney's proposal was horrible and no one ever should buy into it. Robin even had a big speech about it but then caved in. Otherwise same as you I've spent o much time waiting for the mother I might as well hang on for a few more episodes. And once in a while there's a good episode, like this one to remind me why I liked this show in the first place.
