Rolling "New Girl" televison show thread

Anyway, like I said on the other thread, I was actually sad about Schmidt and Cece but it could just be me.

i'm hoping they'll reconcile.

i really came around to this show over the season. i think this last episode was one of the weaker ones, though, but i was glad to see thomas lennon.

Schmidt has overtaken Ron Swanson as the best sitcom character on American television right now.

Well, to be fair, its only because the writing for Ron Swanson has been really lazy for the second half of the most recent P&R season.

schmidt is great though. i thought he was awful in the pilot, but he really grew over the season.

they have an ad for the show now that's basically a highlight reel of schmidt-isms, i'm glad fox realizes who the breakout character of the show is

Premiere was funny.

new season killing it. has a real Friends-in-its-prime vibe. the ep with the younger hipsters across the hall killed. and they're handling the inevitable Nick'n'Jess romance subplot well - though I reckon the minute they really Ross'n'Rachel it, this show's dead in the water. But right now, it's my favourite thing on TV.

pretty much, but it's not like there's a ton of other comedic actors out there filling that niche

maybe there aren't a lot who are actually marine reservists

disappointed by this ep. situations seemed forced, parents didn't seem 'real', cast not given space to do what they usually do well.

Nothing in this show seems "real", but I still thought this ep was fun. I think that's why I like this show -- it works when it's emo, and it works when it's just a shallow punchline dispenser

^ this. I was pretty lukewarm towards it at first, but it's been consistently good this season. Also, they really need to involve Winston more. Every scene he's in is reliably hilarious.

Yeah, that was a little boring to me. I don't really care about the relationship drama on this show.

found the idea that schmidt would really be that clueless abt Winston kinda far fetched

my favorite part of that whole sequence (aside from Nick and Cece being "oh hell no" when Schmidt first broached race with them) is when Winston accused Schmidt of thinking Winston smoked crack because he was black and Schmidt saying he thought Winston smoked crack because that's what Winston had just told him

i loved that the drug dealer was just some dude named rob who thought they were trying to rob him

"I just thought you needed directions!"

yeah it was a great handling of the storyline i wouldve just appreciated like one line explaining why schmidt apparently doesnt know his best friend in the world very well at all

not saying it wasn't a stretch, but it was funny enough that I didn't really care

(also I thought Nick was Schmidt's best friend in the world? I assume Winston and Nick are closer to each other because they grew up together)

schmidt's description of jewish soul food was also hilarious

Schmidt as a character is not in touch with reality to the point that it didn't bother. probably one of the best (funniest/not offensive) sitcom plots about race that i've ever seen.

i got sick this week and caught up with the past season. still kinda embarrassed about it, but i do really enjoy this show

i really like this show again. the odd episode disappoints - like the one with rob reiner in it - but any episode with that game they play, true american, is a keeper. also, i'm gonna cast winston as roast beef in my eventual live-action achewood movie project.

they showed this on a plane a few weeks ago and while I only laughed at one part I was impressed by how tolerable Zooey's character was

man, schmidt's whole speech about how india had to get its shit together really pissed me off. that whole episode really annoyed me. i'm pretty sure all the guys at that dating thing didn't need douche schmidt to tell them cece was very hot for them to actually realise it and go talk with her.

i thought that was a little much

if they're taking Jess and Nick through a horrifically destructive relationship this may be a good direction. i doubt it though

If Jess disappeared the show would instantly be exponentially better.

I just checked IMDB, it was just two episodes last week and two tonight for the final four.

I've loved this season. I stand by this show.

Yeah, I am in the camp that thinks it should've ended last season. It's fine now but feels like a different show.

I am trying to remember if there have been outright laughs so far.

I'm enjoying this season, but mostly because the writers have clearly just decided to let it be completely silly and cut the last remaining tethers to believability, which is fine by me.

Nick and Schmidt's interaction over the mustache was great, also liked the Winston masturbation flashback.

I had to google what this masturbation flashback was because I may have fallen asleep during that episode.

The rest of the episode wasn't great, so that's fair, it might just be that college Nick always makes me laugh.

I think so? The B-plot was Nick hiring someone offa craigslist to punch him in the face if he didn't write x number of words and Winston prepping to testify at a trial.

the show is really stupid and really funny. Winston going on the stand and introducing himself as Winston Pants or whatever, that was great.

I have to go back and find this. I had thought they weren't giving Winston enough weird comedy to do this season. I could only recall the thing about his "not dad."

Rob Reiner's "Oh, NOW you can read the room?" was an A+ laugh line for me.

Gonna miss this show. Winston 4-eva.

Winston was the absolute best character. I would watch a spin off with him.

I am reading the summaries of the episodes from this season. I missed a couple (I really didn't like the first 2 epis) but the wedding episode was great and I am excited about the True American last epi. When I think of New Girl I think of True American and Winston.
