Betting suspended on Kenny Dalglish being in charge of Liverpool next season, Roberto Martinez and Rafa Benitez favourites to replace #LFC

betting has been suspended on KD going

That happens a lot though. Might stick a cheeky fiver on LeBron James, his rehabilitation starts here

Number None, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:09 (fourteen years ago)

yeah fair point, my "at least" was doing a lot of work in that sentence.

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

I really want Benitez back, if not KD to continue

the pinefox, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:14 (fourteen years ago)

Capello's looking for a job, but I can't imagine him at Liverpool.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:16 (fourteen years ago)

nah, he's used to winning clubs

Ned: Since the police can't seem to get off their duff-a-roonies to do something about this burglar-ino, I propose we start out own neighborhood watch (pause) aroony! (everyone cheers) Now, who should lead the group?
Man: You!
Everyone: (cheering again) Flanders! Flanders! Flanders!
Ned: Well, I don't have much experience, but I'd be--
Moe: Someone else!
Ned: (more cheers) Someone else! Someone else! Someone else!
Homer: I'm someone else!
Lenny: He's right!

Speaking after receiving the award as France's Footballer of the Year on Monday night, Hazard said: 'To Manchester, I can reveal that a decision will be made on my destiny within days.'

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

Sunday was the first time I've watched him at length. He's really good, in a Nasri way.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

hmmn nasri's beautifully sotto voce trolling reads quite differently to hazard's potboiler grandiloquence

D Taylor's reports on Manc players: horribly psychologized, emotional - 'RF is understood to be dismayed' etc

meanwhile, KD 'still in limbo'

the pinefox, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:07 (fourteen years ago)

Ought Rio to be there on merit? I haven't seen him much this year. If he should, I'm very dubious about picking Terry instead.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:21 (fourteen years ago)

impression per lord ferg is it's not about merit but whether he can manage the schedule. fa didnt need a second chance to defuse the racewar either

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:26 (fourteen years ago)

how much has rio even played?

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:27 (fourteen years ago)

Rio had a nightmare start to this season but has been pretty good since, and he's usually played better than Terry for England but, yeah, massively injury prone by this stage.

The problem is that Terry will likely prove a poisonous presence in the dressing room in general, it's not just Ferdinand, it's potentially an issue with all black players who don't play for Chelsea.

Not taking Richards with Walker injured seems an odd move as well.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:28 (fourteen years ago)

oh sorry klats you said 'ought'

erm idk i don't think so. terry does need a sweeper alongside ideally but that's probably asking too much of rio now? terry/cahill are a pretty maladroit unit at anything other than classic brit trenchcraft though so

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:33 (fourteen years ago)

30 games or something? most since 2007 i think

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:34 (fourteen years ago)

Exactly. I doubt it's just the black players, I can't imagine him as anything other than insufferable to be around, except as a cartoon John Bull (is that enough? Maybe it is)

What's wrong with Richards, exactly? It doesn't take long for managers to decide they don't fancy him.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:35 (fourteen years ago)

'Exactly' was xp to Matt. Rio's been ever-present this year apparently. I wouldn't know, Utd were always just the team playing in the game I wasn't watching.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:36 (fourteen years ago)

richards naive but potentially good, johnson accomplished but likely shit, you decide

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:37 (fourteen years ago)

IDGI, Richards at this point is better going forward and getting back than Johnson.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:37 (fourteen years ago)

not quite as varied as johnson going fwd imo

Who's englands right wing? No joeks pls.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:39 (fourteen years ago)

physically maybe yeah but johnson has far better technique offensively

personally i would go for richards usually but next to terry and cahill it seems vaguely disastrous

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:42 (fourteen years ago)

The hints about Gary Neville urging a clean break and going entirely with young players is encouraging. A raw but pretty talented side playing with the pressure off could be a lot of fun.

That Roy's apparently already promised the captaincy to Gerrard is less so, though I guess he could get with that state of mind.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:43 (fourteen years ago)

think it'll be milner tbh

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:44 (fourteen years ago)

Given the geriatric Fulham team Roy assembled I suspect G-Nev is destined to be disappointed.

RW = two from Lennon-Walcott-Milner-anyone else? Left wing doesn't feel nailed on for anyone either, except maybe Ashley Young. Downing could still make it. Theo missing out yet again would be hilarious.

Apparently Carroll has got the nod over Crouch which is just fucking stupid and I don't even like Crouch that much.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:45 (fourteen years ago)

---------- hart
johnson terry cahill cole
milner gerrard parker young
----- carroll welbz

i expect

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:45 (fourteen years ago)

i am both a crouch and carroll sentimentalist but wouldve done the same as woy

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:47 (fourteen years ago)

Mmmmm lumpen.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:48 (fourteen years ago)

aoc, a johnson?

Carroll far, far better than crouch.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:49 (fourteen years ago)

any chance for any swansea/norwich etc surprises?

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:50 (fourteen years ago)

Carroll might just be starting to turn things around, and at least he's actually useful as the big tall good with his head disruptive lump, unlike Kraaxtchi

Vermicious Knid A (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:51 (fourteen years ago)

Carroll is playing well, guys. It looks like a sudden turnaround but he's been improving all year. England are not going to be an intricate, fancy side this summer, stick him in there and tell him to go for everything and it'll be fine.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:51 (fourteen years ago)

hope and trust not

advocating grant holt is the height of inanity

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:52 (fourteen years ago)

carroll can stand there and do nothing and still be more effective than crouch, whose only useful characteristic that i can recall is his ability to stand behind the goal and have air shot up his arse whenever there's a goal

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:54 (fourteen years ago)

besides, carroll/rooney the 100m strikeforce is too lol of a concept not to cherish

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:55 (fourteen years ago)

crouchie's diving game is light years ahead of big andy's in fairness

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 09:56 (fourteen years ago)

racism/cuntness aside is there really no better defender to play than Terry?

Rosie 47 (ken c), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 10:01 (fourteen years ago)

crouch, tbfttl, is probably the most-fouled, least-rewarded footballer in england.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 10:01 (fourteen years ago)

cuntiness aside, i'd say not

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 10:02 (fourteen years ago)

think Lescott may've shot himself in the foot a wee bit in that last match.

Vermicious Knid A (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 10:04 (fourteen years ago)

guardian commenter did a bit on what each club was best at in the league statistically:

Manchester City – most goals (93), most shots (666), most shots on target (399), most shots and shots on target in a single game (35, 24 – v QPR), fewest goals conceded (20), most home points (55), most home wins (18) and at that point I stopped writing down any more things. There were lots of others.

Manchester United – most first half goals (40), most away points (42), most away wins (13) and again, stopped writing them down, and again, there were lots of others.

Arsenal – highest 2011 away accuracy (64.18%), most goals in February (14)

Tottenham Hotspur – highest number of corners in a game (19 v Villa – joint with MCFC v QPR and NUFC v SAFC), most points in September (9) November (9) January (10) and May (7), most goals in November (8) January (9) and May (7)

Newcastle United – highest 2012 away efficiency (28.89%)

Chelsea – most shots in 2011 (314)

Everton – highest 2012 home save rate (92.31%) and efficiency (27.54%), most goals in April (14)

Liverpool – most corners (308)

Fulham – the only team with no red cards this season. Good lads, they are. Also, recovered two half time deficits to win, so highest turnarounds.

West Bromwich Albion – most away goals in February (6)

Swansea – fewest fouls (309) and yellow cards (40), highest home save rate (87%)

Norwich – most away goals in January (4 – joint with Liverpool and Sunderland)

Sunderland – highest 2012 efficiency (24.47%) and save rate (86.36%)

Stoke – highest home efficiency (26.6%)

Wigan Athletic – most points in April (9)

Aston Villa – I swear I am not doing this on purpose but I genuinely can’t find a thing...

Queens Park Rangers – highest percentage of points at home (70.27% - rising to 95% in 2012)

Bolton – highest home accuracy (64.96%) and 2011 accuracy (67.45%)

Blackburn Rovers – highest 2011 away efficiency (31.37%) and conversion rate (18.6%)

Wolverhampton Wanderers – highest percentage of points away in 2012 (87.5%)

r|t|c, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 10:06 (fourteen years ago)

Lescott's leap into the net on Mackie's goal was a joy to behold

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 10:07 (fourteen years ago)

The problem is that Terry will likely prove a poisonous presence in the dressing room in general, it's not just Ferdinand, it's potentially an issue with all black players who don't play for Chelsea.

Not taking Richards...

Well that's one of those tricky Terry issues avoided - along with Rio conflicts avoided by dropping him.

Let's hope "diffusing race row" doesn't end up = "dropping black players to appease a cunt"
