don't really get how steve clarke is somehow the fall guy for a shit season

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

I was going to post an excerpt from the Wiki page on "2011-12 Liverpool FC season", specifically the May entry, where a single sentence is devoted to each of the three defeats this month (17 words on the Cup final) but we get 181 words on the league win vs Chelsea. Aw, bless. Breathless, semi-literate, fan-maintained Wiki pages, you gotta love 'em.

But I didn't because it would seem like I was crowing or something.

(i) not dalglish

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

not saying kenny's blameless, but clarke seems to responsible for the tactical minutiae and how we set up defensively. the deep line also seems to be reminiscent of his time at chelsea with mourinho. kenny's more of a macro manager. i think he has the right ideas, but it's implementing them fully which has been part of the problem. i think someone like borrell would be more suited to how i think kenny wants us to play.

Chris, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

i do change my mind a million times a day wrt whether or not kenny should stay btw. at the moment i think i'm ok with it.

Chris, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

idk what a macro manager gets paid for

'i'd like us to attack more, do kind of better things with the white round thing, the ball, what? those fan chappies like that sorta stuff, eh?' *saunters off to the lounge, making vaguely tally-ho type motions*

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Monday, 14 May 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

plus there's a director of football to sort out and the implications that will have for kenny etc etc etc. in short, no idea.

moving on... been meaning to say for ages, i love ramires.

Chris, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

personally think another year of kenny will be a disaster. but prove me wrong kenny, prove me wrong.

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Monday, 14 May 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

i agree, but who to go in there? and under what kind of system?

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Monday, 14 May 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)

i can see both sides. i mean right now i genuinely don't know what i want to happen. this is only an hour after i said "i reckon he's staying, which i'd be happy about". eurgh. don't wanna think about it anymore. good luck fsg. right now i wanna buy panini stickers and predict scores for the euro 2012 the guy down the road's organised.

Chris, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:30 (fourteen years ago)

*the euro 2012 predictor game. the guy down the road did not organise euro 2012 itself.

Chris, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

yeah don't know who would go in, i feel like a bit of a gamble on somebody who will shake things up a bit, eg villas-boas, though he prob wouldn't want it, is the way to go.

clough was a macro manager. sometimes it can work.

@alxmclsh: I am Alex Mcleish the girl, not the football manager. RANDOM GUYS STOP TWEETING ME TELLING ME I JUST GOT FIRED!

kid steel (cajunsunday), Monday, 14 May 2012 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

Getting in Villas Boas would essentially involve having to ship out two years' worth of signings, pretty much everyone except Suarez and Enrique. If the owners are prepared for that level of investment, and possibly writing off a load of Carroll/Henderson money, then fair play to them, but I can't see them doing it for a guy who's just failed at Chelsea.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Monday, 14 May 2012 18:07 (fourteen years ago)

It would probably improve Liverpool in the medium term but it would be a very expensive way of going about it.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Monday, 14 May 2012 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

they're probably more like villa, 'nice' americans let 90s manager spend millions on english shite followed by financial retrenchment & relative austerity

nakhchivan, Monday, 14 May 2012 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

I don't really want anything much to happen I don't think, the appetite for change has been beaten out of me continuously since it became clear Rafa was on his way. It feels like any change is only going to be for the worse, which is ridiculous because ... y'know.

a better manager than dalglish would do better with those players, give or take a winger and some squad bolstering

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Monday, 14 May 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

idk deems, it's always about the wingers and the big number nines

if that was true martin o'neill's villa would have won the champions league http://i.imgur.com/mISov.gif

nakhchivan, Monday, 14 May 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

mon's celtic did well in the cl bytimes, but lfc have a bit more to them than that surely

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Monday, 14 May 2012 20:56 (fourteen years ago)

it was strachan that got them into the knockout stages not mon

it looks like something rupert the bear would wear (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 14 May 2012 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

well there was that time their fans got the special award in seville for getting to the uefa cup final but not smashing the whole fucking place up like rangers or atletico madrid fans

nakhchivan, Monday, 14 May 2012 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

oh that's harsh

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Monday, 14 May 2012 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

MON had Celtic unbeaten at home in Europe for absolute yonks and managed to get knocked out of the groups with 9 points.
MON in Europe > Gordon Strachan in Europe imo, though both came up short tactically, particularly away from home.

Djibril Citté (onimo), Monday, 14 May 2012 21:11 (fourteen years ago)

liverpool's current squad is probably no better than newcastle's let alone the top four

a better manager than dalglish might have got another ten points just by correcting the obviously terrible decisions like playing a cm of gerrard and adam, but they'd still be seven points off the top four

nakhchivan, Monday, 14 May 2012 21:16 (fourteen years ago)

can mp4xa perhaps explain why villa fans seem weirdly cocky about paul lambert taking over

i did have a natter with a villa lad the other week who thought the club was all set to build properly again now all of the deadwood's out of contract but uhhhh those accounts looked pretty rotten iirc

r|t|c, Monday, 14 May 2012 21:19 (fourteen years ago)

oh there's another villa fan on here as well isnt there, i forget who soz

not sure any lfc fans would sniff at another ten points, tbph.

P sure that lfc's squad is better than newcastle's. V sure, tbh.

No, it's still up. Enjoyed that, but then I think he's great anyway. Slagging off Big Sam, grandiose promises, the commode mouth - love it all. I'd like it if he licked these guys' boots a bit less, but that's Kean for you, he challenges you at every turn.
